  1. I'm currently waiting for "approval" for my non-O visa for the 18th time based on married to a Thai and have never had a home visit from immigration. I always apply at least one month before my visa expires and it generally takes at least six weeks to for my visa to be approved. This year we were asked for more photos of us together in our house including photos of us together in the bedroom and kitchen. Previously several photos of us together inside and outside the house were acceptable and have never been asked for photos of us together in the bedroom before. I guess it always depends on the officer but each year it seems to be a learning curve.

The 2 captains released on 150k bail and banned from driving for 2 years........ you have to be joking???????

Many people shaking their heads in despare especially after the police had requested that bail be denied. "Phuket City’s police chief told reporters that police had requested that the court deny bail"

  3. "I live in vain hope that one day someone in charge, with balls and without a hand in the game, will sort out the corrupt, criminal, mess the taxi system has evolved into in Phuket.

I would like to live to see the day when hardworking semi-honest drivers are available to transport people around the island at a fair and reasonable rate."

Yes at a fair and reasonable price in a taxi that's not pimped up with boy racer stick-on bits, wide wheels and a loud exhaust. Not even the Army who where on the Island a few years ago could tame these thugs.

You are describing an extension of stay based on marriage, visas are not available within Thailand.

But i know what you mean.

I also go to Phuket and my approval never took place within a month. The past 3 years it always took between about 5 and 7 weeks.

No need to worry, if they want you out they will tell you.

Edit: didnt notice there was a page #3 so others already reacted with similar info.

    Thanks for your input Bob12345.

I mistakenly used the word "visa" but the more knowledgeable & helpful Members of the site knew what I meant. I'll be sure not to use it again !

    Thank- you.

That does seem a bit long.

Perhaps division 6 in Hat Yai is busy or Phuket immigration did not send it as quick as they should have.

What does Phuket immigration say about it.

On enquiring at Immigration they ask what extension date was given by the Officer then tell me to report to them on that day.  Interesting that the same Officer that processed my visa extended my 90 day reporting date to August 8th.

To save a wasted journey they now give a phone number to ring to ask if the visa has arrived but the phone number is not always in use. Last week I drove there and asked in person and was told "not yet" and told to come on the date stamped in my passport.

If you are waiting for a VISA it will take a very long time to arrive !  Presumably you have applied to renew an extension of stay?

As mentioned I've applied for an "O" visa based on marriage as I have done for the last eight years and which was previously approved in less than a month. My situation has not changed and all the paperwork was in order otherwise it would have been rejected at the first stage prior to send to Hat Yai.

Just a bit concerned about the long wait unlike previous years.

  7. Visa under consideration from Hat Yai.

I applied for my O visa based on marriage at Phuket immigration on May 10th 2017 well over months now and still waiting for approval from Hat Yai. This is the eighth year I’ve applied for my visa and have previously only had to wait less than a month for approval, has anybody else had this long wait before as it seems a bit strange.

  8. You only need the equivalent of 800k baht in a UK bank. There is no requirement for the money to be in a Thai bank.

Would a print -out of my U.K. bank statement be acceptable and what about the signed letter Immigration requires from a Thai bank.

Are you asking about applying for a OA visa or an extension of stay applied for here at immigration?

For the extension the money has to be in a Thai bank.

Not sure how the embassy would handle money in a Thai bank for getting an OA visa. If you have the money in a Thai bank it would best to apply for an extension at immigration.

Applying for Non -Immigrant visa based on marriage to a Thai and will be my 8th year.

  9. I had to get a new UK passport via Hong Kong some years ago when they stopped issuing them here.

At the time and I assume it still is, illegal to be without your passport.

I carried a copy of mine, all pages, and the receipt for postage to Hong Kong in case I was stopped.

Normally I traveled around Thailand with a company driver, for the period my passport was away I felt it prudent to stay in Bangkok.

What is the situation now ? Will a copy suffice ( perhaps certified ) or is their some form of letter available from the UK Embassy ?

As a separate / perhaps related issue as it concern the postal service - today when wanting to send something by EMS to the UK I had to show the Post Office counter my passport - details were taken. I understand this is also the same when sending by EMS to Bangkok. I am told by the PO that this is a govt regulation. Could this affect sending and receiving ones passport ?

If applying for a new British Passport from within Thailand there is no need to send your passport anywhere. Application is made using copies of all the passport pages.

    Full detail in the link.

    Very helpful information thanks.

  10. My CRV seats need reupholstering. The armrests are now all torn where the leather expands and wrinkles due to the humidity. Bit disappointed that a six-year-old car can look so tatty but that's this climate for you.

May give this place a look. How long did the job take?

Also anyone else have any recommendations nearer to the south of the island or Phuket Town?

I was there at the opening time of 0830 and the car was ready for collection at 1900 hrs and previously stipulated that I wanted my car back the same day.

The job included front and rear seats and the door linings to match the seats but using "high quality PVC". The rear and sides of the seats are also covered in PVC which I've read is the usual practice.

I remind you that the place it tatty but the end product although not in the same class as a Master Upholsterer is still very good.

  11. Leather is hotter than cloth but not as hot as the “leather style” seats in some of the new cars on sale in Thailand which look and feel very good but is actually leatherette / PVC which sweats and becomes sticky when hot unlike leather which breaths. Nowadays the quality of the PVC is very good with many owners and sales persons believing its real leather. Take a look at the latest Mazda 2 which is a great car with a very attractive seat covering which is advertised in their brochure as “leather style” bucket seats meaning PVC.

  12. I've just had my Honda Jazz seats reupholstered in genuine leather ( not PVC) The work was carried out by TECHNIC KANBAO located at Thepkasatti Road Phuket Town next door to a local school and church and almost opposite Kosit Temple.

They specialise in sound systems that will blow the wax out of your ears along with reupholstery.

My choice was black leather which I was informed was cowhide and as with most things in Phuket "have to be ordered from Bangkok" total price B.15.000. " High quality PVC" was quoted at around B.8.500 cannot remember exact price.

The finished job in black leather with red stitching looks very classy and feels more comfortable that the original factory cloth albeit leather is noticeable hotter.

Just a word of warning, Technic Kanbao looks like a bit of a scrap yard and can do with a good clean and paint job but don't let that put you off as the owner tell me that both Toyota and Honda send cars to him.

  13. Thanks LivinginKata, The form I was given from Immigration is "Registration Form for the Owner of Residence" with my wife being the owner of the residence and the same address that was given to Immigration at the time of renewing my Visa based on marriage for the past 8 years.
