  1. How did you end up wiht this guy ?

Guess the dog poo on his shoes and he calls his mom, then his mom says you'll lucky if you have farang's gf. cuz she have money !

    :o

    Hi :D

Met the guy on the internet when i was still in my home country in cold Europe. I wouldn't change him for ANY other, that's for sure.... because this superstition-thing is his only fault, really, and i can't blame him for that because the whole family (extended including all cousins, uncles, aunts etc) are like that.

By the way make that "she" a "he" as we are both guys. And the rest of the family knows that THIS Farang does NOT have money, and they like me without it just as much (as this whole Thai family is NOT money-crazy like so many other Thais).

    Best regards......

    Thanh

  2. I am so surprise that many many farangs who own the plantage in Thailand.

I never work in plantage just bought and let family member do all the work. I know the plantage i bought is high price but for that location and how healthy rubber are so the price only going up. Now its 217,000 / Rai (including the house)

I dont even know what kind of the trees are ! but this is how my family manage.

Start tapping when its 7 years and able to do that for more 20 years then you can sell the tree which is really high price. Need to put fertilizer twice a year.

I have 10 years old rubber, 22 Rai 2-3 people work on it about 4 hours tapping then wait for few hours and do the rubber sheet process which I have no idea how :o

As i am the investor but ofcourse family working on it we take 50-50.

When is nice weather can do 4 days a week.

Approximate income is 20000-50000 THB per month for those 22 Rai full of rubber, as a rubber price is 100+ THB per 1 kg.

Think this might give you all some idea

  4. Hi :D

unfortunately i experience this too, in my immediate family (that of my Thai boyfriend, that is). Both him, his sister and his mother are virtually married to fortune tellers, NOTHING is done without the advise of a fortune teller.

This creates all sorts of delays and misses - a very good land deal has been missed because the fortune teller said it would be bad to buy that before September, well the person selling it wanted the money NOW and got it - from someone else...... a new car that we are planning to buy must have a certain colour that neither him nor me like but which is what the fortune teller says, also of course it can not be bought on certain days or at certain times......

Then of course the weekly questions "will i have success in my job", "will i catch a cold" or "will i step in dog shit".

Oh, and every other day he calls his mum to tell her what he dreamed about the night before, for her to run to the fortune teller to have the dream's meaning explained.

And last week one evening, on the way home, i had to avoid another motorbike and almost collided with a soi dog, which in turn took the offense and bit my boyfriend's foot - of course he was on the phone half an hour later with his mum and the next morning had the fortune teller's report that that was a "lucky dog" and it biting him means that he will soon win the lottery - or something to that context.

Of course the whole family deeply believes in ghosts and such are seen just about everywhere - except for when i am present. The fortune teller says "that farang don't believe in it so they stay away from him". Too bad - should they exist, showing themselves to me would be a smart way to make me believe, wouldn't it?? Maybe Thai ghosts don't apply logic.

At least we can have the car in any colour that we want, as long as we make a "donation" to the fortune teller and have a ritual at some temple, followed by a bumper sticker that says "this car is actually golden". And yes, there are plenty of cars with such stickers on them :D

    Best regards.....

  5. It is very sad to see the people of Thailand treating their former Prime Minister with such disrespect. What has happened to the people of Thailand?

Once regarded as peaceful friendly people, they are now crazy in mind, protesting at any decision that the government makes. The have soon forgotten the old days where twenty baht had to last for your food all day.

They have become westernized and with it they have become hypocrites, vindictive, jealous and antisocial people.

Wake up Thailand and leave Dr. Thaksin alone! You have very short memories. You must know that it would be difficult for him to have a fair trial here, and one can't blame him for the decision that he has made.

    Hello Paul,

I am replying because your post got my attention (seems others thought your font too small?)

Thanks for your brief summary of the Thai condition. Maybe it's just as well they've forgotten the old days when 20 baht bought a day's food. I think most are happier these days.

As for your patron Saint, Dr., Pol.Lt.Col., ex P.M. (on the run) Thaksin Shinawatra, one wonders why he has a team of lawyers running around preparing litigation against all & sundry when he feels the Thai legal system is faulty?

Not all Thais are crazy or protesting against the government. However the Thais have the closest thing to a democracy when compared to their neighbors Burma, China,Vietnam etc.

I do blame him for the decision he made. Before he fled he wasn't a criminal by definition. His wife was. But when they commited the crime of jumping bail they cancelled any credibilty they had left.

And if you're trolling, I took the bait. :o

I am not trolling, I am being genuine, and feel sorry for this man and his wife. Yes, I do understand what he has done, by not returning to Thailand and you are quite right to have your own feelings about this. All that I am thinking of, is putting myself in his position, and I would have done the same thing I'm sure. As for the old days, I'm pleased to hear that most Thai people are happier these days. What I was trying to put over was that Dr. Thaksin did help a lot to change the way of life for most people, especially the poor. I also do understand that he still has lots of support and not everyone is against him. I also hope my government in England help to protect him and don't send him back to Thailand to be made a laughing stock. He deserves better than that. He is a rich man as you know and he was a rich man before he ever became Prime Minister and I just hope he can enjoy his new life in England without any more worry. He made his decision and I respect him for it.

You're not really from England, are you Paul...?

That what I thought Paul arent from England :-) "my govt in England help to protect him" so sweet !!!
