Assuming it would ever even get completed....
They can't build roads correctly, build an airport without cutting corners and stealing money, or even earth electric in a house. Who led them to believe they could build a Nuclear power plant?
Lord, save us all.
Wow?? you are so strong about this opinion. let's watch and see who are building them? I have no clue. ( Thai,Farang, or others Asian engineers ) At this point we have to give the Thai her chance. I am worry about the nuclear waste that the American has. I have been told the Government keeps it in the mountain.. My comment about the Thai New Airport from my 2008 trip that everyone was smoking in front of the sign " No Smoking " even though the Thai Authority went to warn the smokers. The smokers stopped for a second then resumed their activity again...They did not stay inside the room but, they all smoke outside the walkway...Amazing??? My take and opinion.
Your English shows that you are Thai and assuming you have lived here for most or all of your life, you should know that the Thai cannot maintain/secure such a dangerous resource. It scares the he_ll out of me!

Assume for a moment a nuclear plant has been completed. Security has to be a worrisome issue. What a nightmare for this unstable country protecting such an asset.

THIS IS THAILAND. Don't like, then go home.
I wonder what prompts an individual(s) to make a statement like this. Is it said out of patriotism, fear of change, xenophobia, or just plain ignorance?
My guess is ignorance.
-
Also, I like this advertisement in the right column. "Build a House in Thailand"
It should also say, "With our built-in corruption, you can build a house, you wife can take it and throw you out on the street."
Then you can can go home, right Rama? Fleece first, go home later.

THIS IS THAILAND. Don't like, then go home.
AMAZING Thailand. If we want to have corruption and want to stay in the 20th century (this is the 21st century btw) and keep our people ignorant and you don't like - go home!
Spoken perfectly Rama. The Thais are quite comfortable with their corruption. It allows them to fleece foreigners with no retribution.
And as a note, there seems to be more Thais than foreigners in this forum these days.

This forum is turning into a boring circus.
-
Everyone seems to have overlooked the possibility of this being a publicity stunt. Thailand is desperate for attention and TOURISTS! This is free international publicity. The whole story sounds lame to begin with so the remaining possibility is it's a stunt to improve the local economy.

I hope the bomber drops dead. A plague on you, scum.
Hey, that's an incendiary comment that most of us would agree with, whatever color the bombers were, but let's face, they were reds.
Give it a rest............
The problems are serious enough as it is without endless propagandists.......
Agreed Philw, but that won't stop this group. The crazies will surface again.

I am not really interested in politics. But I do believe all countries are the same....... power corrupts and thus it is hard to have honest people in power.
Thailand currently is not a democracy, but a police/military state. Under this condition Thaksin would be crazy to surrender himself to the will of his opponents.
I read all the posts painting him as an evil person who harmed Thailand. These people obviously know nothing of the recent political history of Thailand.
Thaksin was elected & re-elected by the people of Thailand, he was & is popular with the majority of Thais. He was ousted while he was out of the country by his opponents with the backing of the military.
Was he good for Thailand? I believe he was ... he is a good businessman and Thailand was prospering. Was he corrupt? Probably. Are there any honest politicians taking his place? Not likely. If all politicians are the same, isn't better to have one that does good things for Thailand? Best and most rational comment I have read on Thai Visa for the past 5 Years.
You start your post with "I am not really interested in politics" which is the prequel to the lies (intentional or mis-guided) which follow. It's your first post, so perhaps we should welcome you to T.Visa and go easy on you. However, it's easy to post under multiple names (articulated in the new book titled; GUARDED CONVERSATIONS).
In your next to last sentence, you propose that all Thai politicians are liars and corrupt - so you think it's better to have one of the corrupt liars who may have done the least harm to Thailand. In some ways I agree, and it pains me to think that there are few (if any) honest people to run for top offices in Thailand. However, I don't agree with the premise that T did 'good things for Thailand.' He made loans easier and therefore ran up debts for poor farmers. He caused the death of thousands of people - none of whom rec'd a trial (fair or otherwise). At least T and his ex-wife rec'd trials. Of the thousands of Thais (nearly all were young males) supposedly involved with drugs or with civil protests in the south - none of them received a trial of any type. ....and all died on T's watch. Was that good for Thailand? Did T ever apologize (no!) Was there ever a proper investigation? (no!).
T should be hauled before the Int'l Court at the Hague for crimes against humanity.
To say T got a trial in Thailand is a ridiculous statement. There is no such thing as a fair trial here with this corrupt system. I do agree with the international option of having a retrial where there is less chance of local political influence. I would like to see this issue put to rest, but there is little to no chance of that.

I do not care about Thaksin now and I did not when I came here in 2004, but under him I loved the exchange rate for my US$ 40-42 I even liked when the Military was in power they kept at 36.5 I settle for them any time over the present one what ever his name is.
So it is all about money to you. Bush and Brown had nothing to do with the Euro falling in value. But I wish they had both been in Thailand instead of where they were.
Actually it is the States fault if they had been a democracy Gore would have been the president and I believe thing would have been a lot different.
Just because the current one is not afraid to hold elections is no reason to hold one. Besides the red shirts need time to build up there money to buy votes. It is not as easy as it was for Thaksin to transfer money into there coffers.
Are you serious? Global warming Gore? You need to to do your homework before you give Gore credit. Gore just got into the global warming game for personal gain and profits.
-
Thaksin was elected & re-elected by the people of Thailand = he bought and rebought the votes of the people of thailand
You talk like that is something new in Thailand or anywhere else.

Women in burkhas are very mysterious.
Amen!
You put Thai woman in Burkas and tourism will hit rock bottom!!
-
There are no truer words than "A skirt cannot be too short."
I think they should all have to wear Burkas. I think they are coming into fashion all over the world. They certainly cover everything and no man will take a second look at a woman wearing one of these black ones down past the ankles. Then no teacher/professor, administrator, men/boys would spend any time looking at the girls/women. I mean even if you could see their eyes you wouldn't be positive if the person was male or female. Problem solved. It would show that the Government (old men) care about the people of Thailand.
I don't know what world you live in, but in my world I don't see Burkas coming into fashion anywhere except muslim women which is not coming into fashion.
-
If the girls don't have a problem with the height of skirts then why should we?
-
knowledge is power would you all not say the same
No. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
-
Weren't they just complaining that there wasn't enough babies? Make up your mind!!

And...has there been a huge number of attacks on these girls suddenly? I think not. Nothing had changed. Nothing ever will.
Don't know if it's been mentioned or not but IF this guy is found guilty he can get another 40 years in US federal pen because US pedo laws are global in scope. If he were to do time in a Thai prision & if he were released Federal agents would be there to escort him to a US Federal holding facility to await trial. Serious as a heart attack.
I doubt that would hold up in the US. The flimsy or no evidence that this country practices, which uses for purely extortion and payoffs, would never float in the US. As tough as the US is on the topic, they would still need solid evidence.
-
Why did the girl wait till after multiple events before complaining? Why not the first time? Thai authorities always seem to have overwhelming evidence. We are either not getting all the facts or something just isn't right about this story.

I am not understanding the admins because they are not controlling this useless flaming and mud slinging at all. I can only assume they are deleting the posts they agree with and allowing the flaming to go in mostly in one direction.

You know what, Amnesty do some very good work- However this press release is nuts. They need to seriously wind there necks in. Even the leftist press are reporting live that the thai army are only using suppression fire to keep the reds contained. Yes there are casualties, and that is very sad. But if the Thai army actually tried to shoot to kill i think you'd find hundreds if not a thousand reds dead. The current casualty figures alone PROVE the army arent topping people willy nilly!!!!
Nonsense press release imho
The problem with your statement is your are assuming that the army is competent and you are assuming that all the army is loyal. I believe there are only few following orders which include the the snipers.

Like it or not this is the beginning of the Reds getting what they want. 3rd party intervention and new elections.

What is the policy in this forum? Is it an expat forum or not? There are thais on both sides of this issue lighting fires in this forum.

I'd think the news would deserve more tolerant posts from the majority of you
Do not feed the trolls.
On topic.
people who apply western ideology to eastern premise will get caughtup in saving poor orfans
and would go to the opening of an envelope only to polish one's own hat.
wherever your from it's biggoted to apply everything you know to everything you see.
I don;t understand why everyone has jumped on the kid human shield thing, it seems you've probably
turned something whereas a guy took his kid to see how cruel his government was making him hate that government.
Coming from the hills it's unlikely he will have seen that mass of military in one area instilling a hatred for the military into the kid.
The westernised world is in a fascist state where everyone is deemed equal where those who are now equal
actually get more that those who are not.
but maybe i've said to much
Good post!

Wow you are truely of your rocker
Get a grip, people are detroying your country

There is madness on both sides , i grant it to you
You obviously know very little. Then again, if Jatuporn cut someones throat in front of 30 reporters, you would deny it. TROLL
Why wasn't this secondary post deleted?
