Well I got the big c at 51, 52 now.. it’s not ideal that’s for sure but you got to roll with the punches. I quit my job and am living the best I can for as long as I can.. what more can any of us do
I had 20 treatments of radiotherapy on my larynx in 2000, which so far has been successful. I will admit though to a slight feeling of trepidation each time I get a sore throat or lose my voice.

Last time I took a cab from Pattaya to Bangkok I think I was lucky to get there in one piece. The driver was an absolute maniac. I've sworn that in future, if not driving myself, I'll use a big bus.

I was 63 when I first came here and for my first two years lived in Pattaya and Jomtien. I found it no problem at all using baht buses and walking. Even at going on 80, if I moved back into town I'd do the same without any problem. Baht buses are a cheap, trouble-free way of getting around. Occasionally when you do have a bit of a walk and you don't want to get sweaty, you can always grab a normal cab.

Quite, love the sarcasm, but sadly in Thailand, if you express your opinion online, even if its true, it can get you in trouble!
Similar to the "Hate Speech" laws springing up in several western countries. The moral of this story is to wait until after you leave the country before you start posting complaints about it online.

Like the old English saying - A man is a king in his castle.
So the Thais can be king in Thailand and we are all guests.
Next time we do anything, just remember whether a guest should behave like that..😊This is a little girl for heavens sake and if you have any kids of your own, you'll know that when a kid's got to go it's got to go.
As someone already pointed out, you see Thais urinating by the side of the road almost on a daily basis. I even see them doing it on the track opposite my house! These are adults, not kids, so what's their excuse?

Thailand never seems to have any trouble returning foreign criminals to their country of origin. Why can't the UK do that with its incoming criminals. We can't get them to beat it even when we offer to pay and house them abroad.

Same as me. Lazada have wife's phone number, if not in, they phone her, she transfers funds and they leave package inside gate. My financial situation these days makes me very weary of giving out my credit card details.

When I finished my one year tour of active service in Borneo with the Brit Army in the early 1960s, there was only one place that us sex-starved squaddies were headed when our leave was due and that was here. That was in the days when Singapore was pretty wild too, so that should tell you something.

Yes. My ex wife was a doggy person and during our 17 year marriage, always insisted on keeping at least two dogs in the house. Every one of them was a pest in its own way, but to keep the peace I went along with it. Since our divorce in 2000, I've never owned another dog, nor have I regretted it. My Thai wife of the past 16 or so years isn't "doggy" either which makes for a happy marriage. However we still have to suffer the noise from idiots in our hamlet who let their animals wander around crapping everywhere and barking day and night. At least when I was a dog owner, I kept mine in check.

So why is it on this forum we can not use the headline "Brit assaults taxi driver"
Swiss Dave wasnt called Foreigner Dave. Russians, Chinese, Indians are always identified form the country they come from.
Why is it that the country that causes the most problems here are protected?
I am a foreigner, and I despise being tarred with the same brush as these idiots.
Grateful you show the stats which support your claim that Brits cause most of the problems here. I don't think the Thais would support you on that.

I live quite near you.
(You live quite near me, but you are NOT me, fortunately)
Every day, rain or shine, I see the delivery guys delivering boxes, parcels, envelopes, packages, of all shapes and sizes, to your house, yet....
I rarely see you.
The delivery trucks pull up outside your gate.
They open your gate and enter your premises with the garbage you have ordered.
And then they leave.
I can see out my picture window, almost as if I were looking out over Waterloo Station, and all I see happening is boxes being delivered to you.
Everyday, I see so many packages sent to your door.
But, not knowing what is inside your boxes,
It ruins my paradise.
Why do you receive, on average, FIVE deliveries per day?
Also, every day, Five Boxes!
They always go in.
I never see any boxes coming out.
I can't remember seeing any people coming out, either?
Your house must be like the NYC Flat of those Jewish Brothers....
What was their name? What a terrifically crafted film, a true masterpiece, I believe.
But, the brothers were such hoarders.
Wait just one MINUTE:
One set of brothers: Jewish
One set of brothers: Gentile
Apparently, no significance to being one or the other.
But, that should have been obvious. And now, with this online-ordering, thingy...
Is this just a better way for hoarders to do their thing?
They needn't exit their homes.
They can do all their hoarding by remote control, and...
The delivery couriers become....
THEIR ENABLERS!!!!!
Therefore, please do tell me now, while I have your attention....
What is going on at your house?
Do you have stacks and stacks of useless junk in there?
And what about the packaging?
Do you save the bubble wrap in one room, and the cardboard in another room?
Do you eat the contents of the packages? I mean, is what you order edible?
Or, do you stack all that junk in a third room?
And, where do you even sleep?
Or, DO YOU sleep??????
This has been going on since you moved to this neighborhood, almost opposite my house.
Will this never end?
I worry for you sanity, and mine, as well.
I just gotta know. I need some resolution, here, of this puzzle.
Tell me.
Are you sick?
Do you need a shrink?
Will your house finally explode as a result of the pressure of all your online orders pushing out, against the walls of your house?
Please take a warning and a caution from the Collyer Brothers.
Please stop this over-the-top love affair with deliveries from your many courier friends.
If the Collyers had had Couriers, things would have reached a head, far sooner.
At the very least, tell me what you are doing with what you order.
And, please tell me WHY.
How did this happen to you?
Is it your hope that...
Someday, relying on some 12-Step Program,
You will be able to wean yourself off of your Buying Habit,
And eventually live an uncluttered and worthy life?
But, do you think there is actually any hope of your getting well?
I am just grateful that being addicted to ONLINE Shopping, and..
Being addicted to Courier Deliveries, and visits from couriers, is not a problem that I, or anyone I know personally...
Such as a wife or a GF,...have...I mean, ....
It is not something that I must deal with in this life.
Do tell...
What is going on with this out-of-hand ONLINE shopping....
Regards,
Gamma
Oh, Forgot: The Collyer Brothers.....
Note 2: The Infamous Waterloo Station Window
Note 3: Coming UNSTRUNG
Sounds like my missus. She must have Lazada and Shoppee on overtime and it's all junk. Still, if it keeps her happy and off my back.....

In 1946, there was the first uplift, which wasn't paid out to pensioners outside of Great Britain. The National Insurance Act 1946 contained a general disqualification for payment of benefits absent from Great Britain, together with power for regulations to remove the disqualification. Upratings, of which there were three between July 1948 and July 1955, were not payable to persons not resident in Great Britain. The formal policy was made in 1955. Subsequent regulations providing for pension increases have continued to have the same effect. Between 1948 and 1955, the UK entered into reciprocal agreements with France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, which provided for payment of retirement pension in the countries concerned. Upratings were paid. Pensions were also payable, by a special arrangement, in Ireland but were not uprated until 1966. Until 1973, recipricol arrangements were made with 30 countries to allow pension increases. This stopped in 1981. In July 1995, there was a parliamentary debate on the Pension Bill amendments for upratings to be paid, defeated by large majorities.
In theory, all UK pensioners could go home, and their pensions increased to the current rate.
William Hague pointed out that todays NI contributions pays for today's pensioner, not your future pension. So arguments about paying into a system for future entitlement falls fat on its face. There isn't the money to pay for overseas pensioners, who mostly don't vote, who mostly don't pay taxes, to have their pension increased.
Ok then, how about paying it to people who DO pay UK taxes.

I've been carrying a stick and a packet of "doggy chews" with me on my daily walk for 17 years now and haven't been bitten. I may just have been lucky, but they seem genuinely cowed by the site of the stick. When I come across dogs which I know are friendly, I hide the stick as best I can and make a bit of a fuss of them. I've made friends with quite a few that used to be nasty by throwing them a couple of doggy chews. Some of them even eat out of my hand.

Almost all these accidents and injuries are from motorcycles.
Unfortunately car/truck ownership is out of reach for the majority of Thai's.
Lax drinking laws are also a major factor.
Unfortunately cars and trucks are bigger than motorcycles and come off best. Also, if motorcyclists learned the highway code and didn't speed, overload their bikes or get psised, they'd be ok.

I quite like the absence of car horn noise in Thailand, the way that I drive, I never use the thing anyway. Don't even know if it works or not.
Prefer it here to say Athens, Greece. I once went there for a holiday and returned my hire car after a couple of hours. Couldn't stand the constant noise of car horns, found it really stressful. Especially at lights. If you didn't pull away the split second they turned green, the whole queue behind you started beeping. Even walking around trying to appreciate the sights, you couldn't escape that constant honking of horns.

I was quoted 26,000 baht for similar treatment to a front tooth which was broken. Because I'm going on 80 yoa, I decided to live with the occasional pain and save myself the money. The days of me worrying about how I look cosmetically are long gone.

Wahhhhh, unfair to falang, wahhhhh. This whining gets old. If you don't like the way Thailand does things go back where you came from. I don't blame Thai people for being angry at foreigners when they misbehave. They have every right to be prejudiced if that's the case, it's just human nature. You're all a bunch of intruders to them, they didn't invite you here. And from where I sit it doesn't look like you have much understanding or respect for them. (I'm not referencing this incident or these particular criminals, only the ones you generally imply are "so unfair") And it's the kettle calling the stove black - you're no less prejudiced, your prejudice against Thais is transparently revealed by all your remarks. You have no moral authority to preach from. Nor do any of the rest of you. Who cares how the press covers it? There is little or no real journalism left ANYWHERE in the world. The rest of us didn't come here to listen to a bunch of doddering complainers. We know where we're better off - here - and we're grateful. I've managed to get through 10 years here without being treated so unfairly that I have to cry to the newspapers. Imagine that. If you want to change the world join the Peace Corps. And lastly, this is an example to prove all of you wrong - Thai people actually being arrested by Thai police, but that's not good enough, is it? Of course not. You enjoy complaining too much.
That's the first "If you don't like it here, you should go back to where you come from" of the day. Surprised it was so far into this thread. Still, you can always guarantee there'll be someone that'll utter it.
Saying that, I think these six Thai guys acted like a pack of hyenas when they smell blood and should be treated severely when it's their turn in court.

Told my missus to throw me on the compost heap at the bottom of the garden to save herself a few bob. She looked at me absolutely disgusted. Thais don't joke about death. I know that she'll have a big expensive face-making ceremony with everyone invited that'll cost her a fortune. Up to her.

i'm out for the 'festivities' too many idiots, thai and foreign. most of my thai friends dislike the excessive water throwing activities too and hunker down or go abroad on holiday. throwing water is 'fun' for about 30 minutes, after that it just gets repetitive and boring. but, everyone to their own.
I agree. It was unique and interesting for a short while on my first Songkran 17 years back. My intro was my motorbike taxi driver and myself getting buckets of water full in the face on the way to the main Pattaya celebration. Ended up hating the festering thing by the time I'd managed to make my way back to Jomtien. Took me hours and was a miserable experience. Have been caught twice more in my time here, once when I went to pick up my daughter from Bang Saen and got stuck in the procession, the other time was when I went to Kanchanaburi to escape Pattaya Songkran and accidentally ended up in their bar district. Didn't realise it was so close to the war museum and cemetary.
