  1. Been tinkering with the 450D whenever I get time, haven't produced anthing spectacular yet but here is a quick pic of my 2 boys.

I did intend for Storm (the dog at the back) to be out of focus, just playing to see what the camera will do.

When I take a Whoah! photo I'll post it up for evaluation to get advice on how to improve. :)

  2. Well I should learn to leave my wallet at home!!

Went to have a browse today and check out equipment and prices.

Long story short, I now also have a Canon 450D with 2 lenses!! Also invested in a tripod, decent bag, filters and Photoshop Elements 7.

The camera is a display model and the last one they had so picked it up with all the gear WELL under my budget.

Now.... just gotta work out how to use it!!! LOL

  3. Don't mean to hijack this thread but I am in similar position and wanted some help/advise.

I have only ever used film cameras (years ago) and compact digitals (firstly Canon S2IS and now Panasonic Lumix TZ3).

I still have both of these and in my opinion both are good cameras but I feel I'm now ready to get a DSLR.

I'll be purchasing it in Australia (home) but have no idea what to look for or where to start.

I don't have a massive budget and want to get the best camera for my money, something I won't want to upgrade in 6 months.

Can I please have suggestions, lets say up to AUD$2500 for now.

Also have only just started using Picasa 3 (freebie download) but really want to get a decent program and learn to use it properly.

Any assistance and advise would be very appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Dan the noobie

  4. Taken on Holiday 3 weeks ago.

Nice shot. That little "ol compact of yours is impressive.

Anyway, I think your shot is a little too dark and "flat" and maybe a bit of "treatment" and sharpening might lift it a little.

What do you think of the attached?

It's not a lot different but just a bit "crisper" maybe?

    Cheers!

Yes, agreed the pic was a bit too dark and flat, Picasa 3 just couldn't get the photo quite how I liked it. Any recommendations on a better free download program for me to "tinker" with?

You have brought the photo to life a little more which is what it needed, think I will post the original for you to look at/play with.

canuckamuck, yes it was 2 boys walking down the beach, was quite a busy afternoon down there and was lucky to get so little in the photo from this angle. And I agree a young couple holding hands would have "fitted" this photo better but where are they when you want them??!! :)

As a noob I am appreciating the feedback and assistance. Thank you.

    Dan

  5. Hongs by Starlight tour - Rain over the lagoon

Beach in Phuket - Nai Harn?

The first image is great - why don't you remove the flare spot and re-post it

    You'll get my vote

    Thanks so much Vulcan!!

I just downloaded Picasa 3 and had a play with this photo, as its my first try altering a photo I think it looks OK, what do you think?

The photo was taken with my Panasonic Lumix TZ3 using the Sunset mode. Would love to get a SLR someday and experiment! :D

BTW that flare spot was rain on the underwater case my camera was in :)

  6. Nice, but I would Photoshop out the three lights on the left, they distract from the rest of the photo.

Thanks, yeah I'll eventually invest in some editing software, just starting out with the basic camera.
