  1. I have just bought a 14 ft kayak, I think for such items your better off either making them yourself or having them made, I have even asked the manufacturer of my Kayak if they have them or if they know where I can find them, they unfortunately do not.

How big is your Kayak? I will be going to work for 6 weeks but when I get back I will be making some for my self, if you still require some, let me know I can always make another set while making my own. I am in Rayong.

You can contact me through this web site.

    Steve.

  2. Has any one or does anyone know how I can bring in my trophy deer heads from New Zealand to Thailand?

Of course they are fully treated leather and hair, plastic and hard foam.

I have tried to get a freight company to bring them in but Thai freight end says I need to contact department of livestock development and possibly get an import license.

Seems to me the Thai freight end thought these heads were real and fresh.

I have brought in two, one meter long frozen fish with the tails sticking out into suvahnabumi on the plane and was given a wierd look when I said I had something to declare.

  3. Does any one know where I can get wire strainers, end insulators etc. I have looked every where even online but there seems be be nothing like that in Thailand, I ordered high tensile 2.5 mm wire and got low tensile rubbish. I have resorted to making my own end insulators which is a mission. I got my old strainers sent from home. Any one??

  4. Make sure your unit is grounded and that you have a textured rubber mat that you stand on when you shower. These problems are avoidable. Our place was not setup with the ground wire.. we had to run one down the side of the house for the shower unit. These units save electricity unlike in the USA where you have a hot water heater on all day and night keeping the hot water hot.

Does the rubber mat really make a difference? WIth all the water flowing over it, will that still allow the electricity to flow? I am not being argumentative; I really want to know.

No the rubber mat doesn't help, fresh clean water is non conductive meaning electricity wont pass through it, but electricity can pass through the growing organisms in the water, which believe me there are in Thailand. A rubber mat is not a solution, good earthing is the only solution and breaker switches. We dont here much about khun Thai people getting electrocuted in this way because it doesn't make big news like falangs. And also the Thai response is that is must be bad luck or carma, the thought of rectifying the faults does not even register.

  5. Two Australian lesbian Sheering shed roustabouts went into a local bar and the first one went to the counter and tapped her coin on the bar, raised her arm for attention and yelled, "Hoe give us both a beer!!

Publican cringing at the sight of the two sheilas in shorts and singlets with hairy underarms, pours them both a beer.

The leso's gulp them down then burp, and the other bangs her coin on the table and raises her arm to reviel her hairy sweaty armpits, and yells, "Two more of those mate!!

This goes on for a while, each rousy sheila ordering in turns and gulping down their beer. When after a while an old fellow sitting in the corner comes up to the publican and squints at the two sheilas, then says,"I'd like to buy those two ballerina's a drink.

The publican whispers under his breath to the poor old codger who is obviosly hard of seeing, "those aren't ballerina's mate".

To which the old fellow looks again through his jam jar glasses and says with a bit of confusion in his voice, "Well any one who can lift their leg that high has gotta be a balerina"!!

  6. There was a Pommy tourist driving through NewZealnd in a campervan admiring the lovely green fertile farm land of the country when he saw a local farmer doing something on the side of the road.

As he got closer he realised that the farmer had a sheeps head stuck in the netting fence and he was up behind it pumping it hard core.

The English man stopped and expclaimed "Gees what on earth are you doing??

The Kiwi farmer said "I am shagging this sheep, do you want a go??

The English fellow says with excitement,"ohhh yea!!

So he comes running over to the wire netting fence pulling down his strides at the same time, and stuffs HIS head in the wire netting fence.

  7. Where do you want to start on this one ...............?

Rules? - pretty relaxed as far as keeping cows and selling the muilk to the co-op is concerned. BF testing seldom if ever done (Butter fat) - same for protein and other basics checked in the West at individual farmer level, but don't get caught off-loading mastitis milk into the public supply. The co-op will cease buying from you.

As for bottling and retailing your own milk - thats a different story: you'll be sudjected to a whole raft of health & safety legislation not even I would bother with, and you'll be up against the established names (e.g. Foremost and Thai Danish... amongst others).

You will need to establish a market that can beat them on retail pricing and that will mean volume, which means logistics, contracts with retailers (7/11, Central, Tesco Lotus ...) .... the idea of being able to establish a local area name and being able to retail in volumes that the local area's can support like home deliveries in the Uk each morning I doubt would be possible in Thailand - the per capita milk consumption per individual is not high enough in Thailand (but it conatinues to rise every year).

And I could go on and on ............ in short your best bet would be wholesaling to a local co-op.

Its a tuff business and if you don;t have any experiance to date, you have very steep learning curve ahead of you. Expect to run at a loss for the first 2 - 5years, expect lots of mistakes, frustrations and uphills from having to deal with the ever present problem of mastitis (biggest headache for Thai dairy farmers, to having to find staff who are relaible and consistant, to battling with having to source decent quality forage in the dry season, to vets fees, not being able to be away form the cows for even 1 day for the first few years, you'll have to micro-manage every single Satang during that time ...... and it goes on and on and on.

That is the reality of it - nothing romantic at all - but get through the first few years and you'll wonder how you did it - then you won't want to give up.

Suggest you start off visiting as many small independant Thai dairy farmers as you can - take notes - note indiviudal differances in animal husbandry -note how many cows they have - how much they produce, and compare it all with the differances in feed practise (you'll see big differances) and try to get some idea of costs.

Feed costs are ultimately what will make or break you. Having your own land to grow feed on is really the only way to go long term.

    Wish you all the best

Thanks you a lot for the input. I have 10 years experience in dairy farming in NewZealand I had my own farm of 250 crossbreed cows of which I ran by my self, so as you could imagine I was fairly busy. So yes I am familier with the bugger of mastitis etc. But you tend to learn all the tricks of keeping your somatic cell counts low, I hardly ever had to get the vet, and I did all my artificial insemination my self, as well as the niegbours cows too.. I won south Island dairy farmer of the year producing 420kg milk solids per cow in my last year, half i which my herd were heifers, so I could probably fairly say I would be experienced enough to have a crack at it here in Thailand.

But when it comes to the politics of it all, I am useless, I was thinking rather than to try compete with local suppliers.....who's milk is all reconstituted even though they say it is fresh. I would try to supply to restuarants and hotels etc. And as far as price goes, I think milk is basically a bit like gold it has the same value internationaly, the only advantage for marketing that I would have is taste, (Ability to keep somatic cells to a minimum) and of course actually being fresh whole mik. Maybe any surplus could go to feeding pigs?

I could possibly even sell small amounts at the local markets and to those thai milk shake stalls and the likes.

Any other ideas or comments would be most appreciated.

50 cows would be a start to try it out I think.

I am in the Rayong area.

Thanks again for the positive input.

  8. Alai!!! That is a good one I say that if I think they are talking about me or about something they dont want me to know about.

See how your missus reacts to you wanting to learn Thai, if she doesnt want you to learn then you know what she is all about. But you need to make sure your last experience hasn't made you PARANOID they might wonder why their future son in law doesnt try joke with them and why he always looks at them angrily. Get a bottle of whisky and some soda water and tell the old man to sit and drink with you, have a pen and paper with you so you can draw pictures to comunicate, it will be frustrating but they will love and respect the fact that you are ok with them and making an effort. And you might be surprised you might feel better too.

  9. I did some volunteer work at a temple in Bangkok who also took donations and gave reciepts, I couldn't help notice when I was there that there were about 7 nice new cars all in seven different colours of some budhist colour scheme thing, cant remeber what it was, but my wife explained to me that the cars all belonged to the head monk at the temple, all of which had personalised plates. I think if you really want to help the needy and the poor support their markets and stalls, intead of giving it to some one else to dispence the way they see fit.

  10. There is one up on a cliff I think after Karon on the way back towards Phuket town, looks out over the sea from up high, sometimes has a band and is cheap enough. Beautifull. Other wise Jazz restuarant is good in Patong, nice beer too, and the band is awsome. Jazz is up near Andaman road on the corner to go around to Andaman Resort.

  11. A maori fulla went into a Chinese restuarant and asked the pimply faced young Chinese waiter.

Maori Fulla: Hey bro!! Whats your soup of the day??

Chinese Waiter: Ahh my engrish not so good soup is....buuk buk buk (Chicken noise).

    Maori fulla: Oh yea chicken!!

Chinese waiter: No no Buuuk buk buk buk!!!

Maori fulla: Yea sounds like chicken!!

Chinese waiter: No no not chicken, I bring for you to try!!

So the Chinese waiter comes out with a big bowl of soup and puts it in front of the Maori fulla to try.

Maori fulla: Sluurp!!! Thats mushroom man!!!

Chinese waiter: Ahh yes yes that is it, my engrish not so good.

Maori full: Then why did you make a noise like a bloody chicken??

Chinese waiter: Ahh I can not make a noise like a mushloom!!

  12. Sounds like a heated body, or in a literal way of speaking ' a hot body'. I get really hot when I drink too much, and I drink more than you for long periods of time, my body heats up and I get rash on my face. I started drinking Chinese tea with ginger in it, and drink o lot of electralites but the only thing that makes me come right is having a rest for a week . Also extended periods of drinking makes me worry a lot about stupid shit, health wise. It is just too much cheap booze, Asian beer is rubbish, I bet you dont get it at home on your local beer? Ask one of the bar girls what she would suggest for drinking to bring down body heat.

  13. I cannot believe these Thai hospitals give all patients c sections, my wife is going to have one soon and the doctor decided he was going to do C section without even examining, "oh we make him born on 22nd ,good day for budha". Makes me wonder if sticking to the hospital financial budget includes a certain amount of C sections a year. Just annoys me to creat unnecesary risk to my wife. Cant bone for quite a long time afterwards either:-(.
