  1. "Thailand is buckling under the burden of sheltering and feeding hundreds of boat people ..."

sorry, but this is just a verz primitive try of a populistic politician, playing the xenophobia card.

Thailand is a country of about 70 million people, and not so poor anymore.

If this man really is thinking, that "Thailand is buckling under the burden of sheltering and feeding hundreds of boat people he surely needs to visit a doctor (psychiatrist ) or start his school career again at first class !

I think, Libanon, a small country with about 6 million people, alone, has to shoulder about 1 million refugees from Syria. That is a burden!!!!!!!!

To some extent I can understand the fear, if people from other coutries are invading your country in masses (say millions). But some hundreds in one month is a friction of a peanut!

Officials from UNHCR will just laugh if they will be confrontated with these silly comments from Thai officials.

  2. best would be trying to use less electicity

    - f. e. use of led lights, turning off lights if not needed (f.e. by motion controlled switches...)

    - eliminate energy ineficient equipments (old refirigerator, old/not serviced AC, use fan instead/plus AC)

    - use mobile meter to get the idea of the real energy use of every equipment (each AC)

-localize main power use equipments )

    - avoid heating uo of the bulding (use shade like trees, etc., double roof ..., sun reflecting paint...

    - cool house at night by air exchange ...

    - use sun to heat up water

many of this can be done without investing much money, - just using brain cells/information/planing

  4. by the way ..

Many (most?) glass-doors in Thailand are not made of safety-glass.

    glass-tables !

    doors from cupboards ... !

    glass in showers...!

because it is so dangerous, today we have safety-glass in all these applications in EU (European Union).

    so

watch out when buying new glass items and get rid of these dangerous items

  5. sorry, I do have some bad news for you, the "hang him high" brigade:

torturing the parents, murdering them, or what ever you imagine to be fine

    doesnt help at all !

It only would mean bringing more brutality in this world ! And making these people even worth!

Please do try to get the facts right:

the mother was about 15 years old , when she got pregnant. Do you know. under what kind of circumstances this happened? Looking at this case, I can imagin it was kind of non willing sex, may be rape. And, to call this 17 year old boy "man" is not adequate. He is also more a child himself (probably low IQ and no education).May be drugs did play a role here.

As it is usual, these youngsters (mother and "stepfather", better to say boyfriend of the mother) probably had also kind of cruel childhood themselves.

And, this poor 3 year old victim: There is a big chance, that she also will be a very incompetent mother herself, because this, the circumstances of your childhood are the best predictors of your later parental abilities.

  6. ok, normally no one is interested in the professional view of these things ..

    but I cant t resist:

Being young or doing no "family planing" are NO reasons for having children with low IQ (Intelligent quotient, as benchmark for general intelligence/general cognitive abilities )

(I cant even remember a founding of correlation between obesity and IQ !)

There may be a correlation ( doesnt mean, it is the reason!!!) between age and IQ of children but the reasons are something else:

As we (should know!), there is a huge positive correlation between IQ of parents and IQ of children. This in general is the main reason for being Einstein or having low Intelligence! (thing of genes !)

So how does is come, that the IQ of the population is declining?

It must be an effect of selection. In short, there is a trend, that people with higher IQ are getting less children!!

It is easy to understand: The more intelligent you (and your family)are, the more likely are you able for "family planing". To understand it right, in 99 % of the cases, family planing means avoiding having children. No "planing means having unwanted children/pregnancy. In many cases (think of people with low IQ), the young ones do not even understand it (or not really) that having straight sex causes being pregnant!

And, woman with higher IQ even have higher ability to have abortion.

In my home country, 50 % of woman with university degree are childless!

(The reproduction quota for the whole society is 1.2 (about 2.1 is necessary to keep the population at the same level)

    In short:

People with low intelligence are getting more children, intelligent people are getting less, leading to an decline of the intelligence in a society!

    oh, and:

There is a negative correlation between obesity and education! In short, uneducated people are more likely of being fat! (next time, I will explain this correlation ;-)

  7. "I went to Bumrungrad Hospital and take the test weeks ago and it total cost around 3800 Baht"

    Troll-season?

I assume, for about 300 Baht you get the medication you need (simple and effective)

if it does not work you could make a test afterwards

Azithromycin 1 g orally in a single dose

    OR

Doxycycline 100 mg orally twice a day for 7 days

microbial cure rates of 97% and 98%

    http://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2010/chlamydial-infections.htm

    "BangPaInn"

Urine test is not the (best)way to test chlamydia! If test is negative, you still could be positive!

"second oppinion" : if you are symptom free (after taking medicine) you would need to wait about 4 weeks,to make a test

"yeast infection" : did they really test you "positive" or is it just guessing?

  8. high noon for TROLLING??

taking "ultimate weapon" serious, I would say,

    his general understanding is lacking,

but, as he seems to be something like in the range of 10 to 12 years old, there is a chance it will get better in the next 10 years.

    hint:

1.try to deepen your understanding of exchange rates!

    2. McDonalds burgers are a used to get an idea of what you get for your money in different countries. As long, as McD. burgers are everything you want to use your money for, this is a good idea,

but as it mostly is, the reality is much more complicate!

f.e. Coffee, wine,Mercedes Benz, Lamborghini, RoyceRoyce, are expensive goods in Thailand compared to Europe(mostly because of huge import-tax)

One working hour is cheap, compared to Western Europe.

Electronic goods, made in Thailand are much cheaper then imported electronics ...

    3. "foreign countries" are everything but Thailand. They do not have something in common just because they are not Thai!

3.3. what is a "farang country" ? (White Russia, Romania,Bolivia, Armenia, Turkey, ...???

I would say: Decisions, where to live just made on the basis of how many Burgers you get for your money are not that clever!

(hint: there are - normaly -other reasons for choosing your place to live permanently!)

  9. troll?

your question is just way too general!

Just insert insert your home country instead of "Thailand " and you (hopefully will understand!

"does anyone have a good idea of the job market in "homecountry" - specifically property. Please bear in mind I'm relitively young, lacking experience and can't speak the language of "homecountry".

    and

you do not need "a good idea of the job market in Thailand "

you seem to want some advice of how to find a job for yourself in Thailand.

roughly said, with no job experience at all, no job-education (no degree etc.)

being very young (20 ?), overall your chances are small!

You need a workpermit for working in Thailand and without qualification, your chances are near null.

Better earn some money, before you go to Thailand, and live with that money

  10. first:

Thailand is not such a poor country any more. If the government would like to help the Rohingya refugees, there would be enough funds for doing it.

    Second:

Millions of European citizen are coming to Thailand every year. It is just normal, that lets say 0.1 % or may be less will get serious trouble (thats roundabout maybe 5000 per year)

(again: being victim of criminal activities , health problems, etc.)

please no blaming of these victims ! At some point in ones life one needs outside help and especially if you your 8000 miles away from your home

or /and if especially, if you get older and older !!!!

Nothing to do with proper visa! And even, If you have health insurance, you need help if serious ill. Many people only realize when they get ill, that their insurance do NOT pay ( I could tell your some stories!).

I myself once was trying trying to help an old (!), robbed US citizen, who was stranded helpless with no money left. He was sleeping outside in Pattaya and only the motorcy guys did help him. I contacted the US Embassy, but that was a total waste of time!!

I know, there are many people, who seem to do everything do get in to trouble. I do not like these people very much, but will always give everyone my helping hand, when he is in great danger and is totally helpless. And (by profession) I know, that it is not easy to help someone, especially when someone is totally helpless.

In my opinion, we have to help first our own human fellow man, and secondly animals !

Most people, I do not like that much, but I can not stand to let someone helpless to suffer (or even die) before my eyes without even trying to help him, knowing, that in many cases I cant do anything.

what is the meaning of "deja vue" ?

  12. I am getting old and foolish...

reading the headline ("EU raises humanitarian assistance to migrants in Thailand")

I was thinking, the EU was actually starting to help EU citizen, who are in trouble

while staying in Thailand f.e. having serious health problems, beeing victims of criminals, having accident, jailed f.e. for not having proper visa.

silly old man I am. I should go to see my doctor ....

  13. please someone telling, this is a joke, troll-posting etc!

    it is so unreal!

I assume this bloke did pay such a lot of money (beside all the work) in the last years to get his Thai princess to marry him and to get her to live in Canada.

I understand, this (becoming Canadian citizenship) is a big step for your wife.

So a small gift would be a nice gesture (maybe inviting her to a meal).

I guess, this little princess (after 4 years) knows this poor bloke inside out-

    proposing this obscene gift!

I would answer my wife, ok, can do it, but only after divorcing before!

    (I mean it!)

Are you really thinking, that acting like this will earn you respect from your wife?

Maybe, a diamond ring means just peanuts for you. So give her peanuts.

But WHY are you making this a topic in an open forum like this???

Why do you need to tell us, this?

Do we really need to know, that you have"guarantee from Ben Moss jewelers"

Troll,? is "he" that small? No one else (in your real life, assuming there is one)), who wants to hear your silly stories about your tillac? No friend, you could ask this very serious question?

Why not ask the next homeless one you will meet ? If you will give him one dollar, he might give you an reasonable answer ....

I am afraid, the moderators will delete this...

Everyone needs to do what he feels, he has to do ....

"I want a new ring with a larger diamond".

in my eyes, asking just this question is so extreme rude!

A gift is a gift. You get or do not get something. And it is the decision of the donor! You can go to shop, and ASK for a diamond, but not for a gift.

and this "larger": it implicates, the one you gave her for the engagement was way too small. This is not just impolite, it is insulting!

(And - off-course- this little princess does not understand, that the value of a diamond not only depends on the quantity but also on the quality of a diamond!)

more more more, bigger bigger bigger ...

    feed me more,more more m....

  14. all this manipulating of human (and not human!) reproduction is inevitable (!) leading to very serious evil results.

I predict ( I could bet my ass), we will hear much more like this in the future. this is just the top of a (vast growing) iceberg.

I can nearly hear these children crying for their "mothers" and fathers when they get older .... Who will answer them ?

At least, all these "doctors" and other people making profits in this business should pay for these poor creations/human beings (costs of upbringing, costs of education ...)

We will get to know a lot more depressing informations about this business soon

  15. under last government household debts raising from 55 to 80 %

    this figure alone is alarming!

and (I guess)main reason is the "first car " politic

nearly forcing people with an income of 12000 Baht to buy a new car is amoral ...

the % of income, these people are spending for their car is just plain crazy.

No more money left for other more important things (f. e. like healthy food, having children,) many cant even afford gas for the car - not to mention maintenance of the car ...)

Thailand's big cities (esp. Bangkok) are needing anything more then more cars.Even before , Bangkok streets were overcrowded.

The car nightmare is one of the worst chapter in modern western (major capitalistic) countries and these developing countries are going to repeat this disaster with even more speed.

(with a GDP like Thailand, in my home country people were using public transportation, bicycles or just their feed for transportation. Using cars as main transporting vehicle means destroying quality of living in the big cities (look at Bangkok today!), enormous pollution, and total wasting of resources (including manpower, production, lifetime, not to talk about energy ...)

  16. 260 posts

seems to be a sexy topic: cars, money, politics ...

but nearly no one interested in profound political economic reasoning ..

same like politicians: their reasons for this kind of politics

may be benefits for own carrier (or income!), supporting minority/interest groups (car producers, banks ...), populisms or just plain

    ignorance

    best post so far:

"First you appropriate by force peoples monies through taxation then under the harmless guise of giving the people a break you provide incentives to buy cars- unless the manufacturers are reducing all car costs (in which case the effort would still be borne on the market through other means), society WILL pay fiscally.

Like the rice scheme, artificially propping a segment of the market negatively influences broader market indicators by effectively driving down prices or going out of business. There is an immediate and broad impact on the secondary auto market. Subtle? Insignificant? Depends; are a small amount of jobs worth the price of this program? Many jobs? Any? For all defaults the banks absorb the losses. Banks pass that on to consumers. Banks unload autos repossessed and this further depresses the secondary markets. You may argue the numbers are not high but all the numbers are negative. The benefit to the economy is amorphous and touchy feely populism. It's destructive and amoral to redistribute wealth, especially when disguised as the national good. When governments favor a sector of the economy things get unpredictable. It's artificial injection and it's only true relation to the natural state of economics is force! "

  17. "...in this instance, was caused by the electricity that had been going to the signs of the nearby gas station's signs was suddenly diverted to the ATM when the power to the signs was suddenly turned off. "

sorry "rametindallas", I think (for me) this is "nonsense"

I think, you are not an electrical engineer...

max. voltage should be 220 V and many consumer devices can lead to lower (!) voltage ! So the shut down of these devices will only lead back to normal voltage (220 V).

"This part of the story is unbelievable" right!

"Power overload has nothing to do with a metal cases etc. becoming active, this is a function of a fault or poor installation. " right!!

"220vac will generally throw a person away from what they touch"

sorry "smedly", this is wrong: the electric shock can paralyse your motoric system (no control of muscles ), especially with wet hands, water involved

the electric shock cant "throw you away" (how should this happen?). It is your own reaction, if your system is still able to do this!)

sorry, but these kind of expressions are pure unprofessional and lead to wrong conclusions

see the tragic accidents, where someone wanted to help an electrocutes one and himself got killed ...

"Most fatalities with electricity are were the person cannot disconnect from the source"

right, reason is, the electric current is that high, because the electric resistance is that low (f.e.wet hand and feet, no shoes) and the electric is going through the whole buddy (f.e. from the hand down to the feet)

thats the reason, many people in Thailand get electrocuted while having a shower, be in/near a swimming pool, walking in the street while raining, standing in water...

  18. 1. reminder: this government is the one making everyone happy

(meaning: criticising the government is a criminal act!) what does this mean for the trustworthy of their official statements ?)

    2. money, governments led rain from the sky, in fact does not just come from the sky !

there are sources for the money: f.e.

    - money printing (leading to inflation which is kind of expropriation of people with money/ income ...

    - raising taxes (what the actual government is actually doing !)

    - decrease spending for other things, f. e. health care (notoric undersupply of government owned hospitals)

    - raising depts of the state, meaning less money in the future or higher taxes

state grants for buying cars means, someone has to pay for it.Roughly everyone who is not benefiting (not buying first car)is paying for it

(why? Why should/must they do this?)

People will have to use a big part of their income for buying cars for years. What is good about that? Why not build a house, or buy a new PC, smart-phone, refrigerator, meals, healthy food instead?

Why using tax-money to get millions of people being indebted up to the roof? Limiting their ability to decide for what they use their wages for many years?

In general, government subsidies like this, are decreasing the chance of the people to chose what to do with their money, raising the portion of spending, the state is in control of.

    Is this a good thing?(why?)
