1. BM LennyW posted the following two images from Centrals carpark in another tread where it unfortunately got buried in a long discussion about other things. I though it was important to give everybody a chance to look at the pictures and judge for themselves.

Several comments were made: Some people report they have felt the building "shuddering", others, presumably with engineering experience suggest that adding these metal things to the carrying concrete pillars risk damaging the structural integrity of the pillars.

I don't know but I think it is very worrying to think about what may happen if just one such pillar gives in for the weight on top - 6 floors of mall + another 8 or so of a hotel on top of it.... :)

Looks like some body 'forgot' the rebar :D

  2. Garbage blights dive sites

Marine officials found more than 22 tonnes of garbage dumped into the sea last year, most of it at famous dive spots. Koh Samaesarn in Chon Buri province was the site of the biggest undersea garbage dump, Department of Marine and Coastal Resources chief Samran Rakchart said yesterday.

The Samaesarn area of Sattahip district is where the mysterious containers that have been in the news lately are located. An investigation team is trying to find out what is inside the containers.

Half of the garbage found at Samaesan is plastic and beer bottles.

There was certainly a surge in the amount of rubbish floating about last month. Plenty of green alge too, I put it down to the wind direction & change in currents but maybe someone had just dumped a pile :)

  3. I have been going full bore Song Kran here in Pattaya and after what I have seen its amazing the death tally is so low.

Everyone is driving drunk. The motocy taxi guys are easily double the legal limit, i just get on and close my eyes :o

I personally have been almost run over twice, been close to a dozen altercations w thai/farang alike for doing nothing, had a thai guy

threaten to hit me with a brick, the list goes on, thank God only one more day

Its like a mix of the best human interaction (friendliness etc) that can turn violent in a second.

All in all a great time though :D

What is the legal limit in Thailand?

  4. I'm very angry as well, But my friends in Hong Kong have bought it! I don't understand what's going on :o .

I think xbox live is available in Hong Kong - In Thailand the xbox 360 has never been officiallly available so you are not really supposed to use it from there :D

I dont think its that cos I downloaded the COD4 map pack in Thailand last year with no problems. On the official Xbox forums some guy in Dubai said he has the same problems.

Would this work? Connect Xbox to computer, then connect computer to internet going through and American proxy server and then connect to Live?

Could be as Dubai is not one of the 27 official countries where live is available, same as Thailand

  5.
Well, he certainly has 1 or 2 more passports. I don't think he was so stupid and has traveled into Dubai (assuming he is there) on his Thai passport?
So, as far as I understand someone must leave the country with the passport entered. Is that now the moment where Interpol will step in?
Has there any international arrest warrant been issued?

Thai's need a visa to visit the UAE!

  7. Im pretty annoyed right now, I never usually buy MS points for DLC but I love COD Waw so I especially bought a 1600 points card only to get a message saying 'not available in your region'. Anyone know how I can get round this???

Long shot but have you tried changing your location on the xbox setup menu? It used to work (changing it to US used to let you download movies which are not available outside the US). Worth a try but I am sure they might have changed to look up your IP address!

  8. Florin: if you can grow cannabis you can for sure grow tomatoes, just why?! Such a waste of energy! :o

I have some experience, but definitely not in veggies, so I don't know if I can be any help :D

Banjanti. Dont even go there! To infer what you might be inferring would be against the law of this land, and also the forum rules.

I'm also reasonably interested in hydroponics for growing my own produce. I miss salads. Sharp, crisp and fresh salads. Not the limp stuff you can buy on the markets here.

I wonder what the set up and running costs are to set all this up for the household producer. Anyone know?

It would end up being the most expensive salad you ever ate! Set up costs in the UK (small rig) were about 1000 GBP + monthly electric & water costs. Google growell in the UK if you want to look at a decent website.

  9. but resumed this morning with the boat reportedly found near Cape Promthep.

Something does not stack up here :D Steaming in from the Similans and sank at 10pm off Promthep Cape but the alarm not raised until 8am. Promthep Cape to Chalong Pier is only 8-10km!!! :o

  10. We just came back from a dive trip with Dive Asia 1. The boat looked new to us, but was overbooked by 50%. If there really was no EPIRB then there should be a criminal investigation. Due to our knowledge the owners are German - they should know was SAFETY means. We hope that our suspicion is wrong. Michael&Made, Bali

There is some uncertainty as to if the Thai Navy have EPIRB! Certainly looks like it was a long time before anyone realised the boat had a problem :o

  11. Having just talked to some friends in Phuket, I am inclined along the "design problem" scenario, in that the boat was very "top heavy". The storm was not that bad. Another avoidable tragedy?? Sorry for all those concerned.

As a recently ex Search and Rescue helicopter pilot I applaud the professional and sensible comments.

Even with the generators, compressors and fresh water tanks down below? I have seen far worse out there :o

  12. Hope they can find the missing six people!

''With great sadness we have to inform you that our MV Dive Asia 1 sunk last night the 8th of March at around 11pm on the way back from Similan to Phuket.

''To our knowledge most of our guest and crew were able to get into the life raft and where picked up by a fishing boat around noon.

''Right now this people are being transferred to a Thai Police Vessel and are on the way to shore and should arrive soon.

''Six people are still missing and a search in the area is underway. Your support is greatly appreciated. [The figure was subsequently revised to seven]

''At this moment we do not know the reason for the accident and we will keep you posted

  15. quote]My sugestion would be to just go take the course and you will be given the book. Don't worry about studying for the exam, it is very easy and all is comon sence. If I had my books over here with me I would just give them to you, I never read them and never will. I am a hands on learner anyway, for me the best way to learn something is just to go do it. I got my open water on Ko Phi Phi, two years ago, and my AOW on Ko Tao, both locations where amazing, Phi Phi was better but Tao was cheaper. Good luck.

Not very good advice! I would read them and read them again
