  1. It is very illegal but some taxi metres in Bangkok are rigged. I've only come across it once when i arrived here about three years ago. Same story as above, i already knew the approx fare to my hotel. But instead of paying over the odds i told him how much i would pay. He didn't argue. Seeing things from the taxis point of view, some metres could just be malfunctioning at the time.

  2. What's the big deal with the Bigtroubleinthailand channel at Youtube which used to have all the uncut jet ski and marines film, it's all been deleted. Wonder why. Is this something about the producers being threatening by the police? But why delete all uncut film which could be used as against the jet ski scam owners, proving it wasn't staged.

  3. Of course it exists. Patong is one of the most family-friendly places in the whle country. Lots of stuff for the kids to do, they'll love it. Only one small area of Patong could be called a little' seedy' and that's the bar area of Soi Bangla. Get away from from there and you'd never even realize that Patong was in hardly anyway 'seedy'. Remember, bars and go-gos etc.... always give a place a less than better reputation, but reports are always hyped up.

For something quiter than Patong, perhaps try Kata Noi beach or even quieter than that Nai Harn beach.

In the end, dont take some reports you read on the Internet too seriously; come and see for yourself.

  4. Sorry to hear about your hotel room! Just seems like bad luck - dont be afraid to mention the hotel here, makes a warning for everyone. Better than just generalizing.

In contrast, ive been going to Samet for years and feel that the prices havent really gone up at all, the food has, sure - but not really accommodation. For me the place hasnt changed too much over the past few years, so no i dont see Samet getting worse! I just take care though on where i stay and eat etc... same as anywhere i go.

  5. Well hopefully the tw @ t will eventually see his own dorky picture spread accross the internet etc and feel embarrased about it. If he ever comes to Thailand again there will be hundreds of Thai Visa reading looking out for him & having a laugh at his expense...poor simple dork! :D:)

Perhaps the most pathetic thing I have ever read on these forums. From what i have read, the young lad has yet to mention a thing about this matter - who are you to call him a <deleted> and a dork?

  6. From Suvarnabhumi to Hua Hin.

    1) Take a #556 (expressway) bus from the airport to the Southern Bus Terminal. From there, take an air-con bus to Hua Hin.

    2) Or, if you wanna take the passenger van (mini bus) as mentioned above. Take a #551 (expressway) bus from the airport to Victory Monument.

For convenience and comfort however, i would go for option number one here.

  7. The best precuations possible are to cover-up. Malaria is mainly prevalent in the border areas but it's not that rare. Dengue is every where, or as we see now in the south of Thailand is Chikungunya.

The chances of picking up any disease like this is very small, even in Pai, but to make sure as best as possible - dont let those mozzies for fun.

  8. Due to the possible heavy consequences, you wouldn't try to pull off a smuggling attempt in your country. So, don't try and do the same in Laos/Thailand.

Cigarettes are still, relatively, very cheap in Thailand - hardly any point in attempting to break the customs laws. The customs officers were only enforcing the law. Very very doubt the taxi driver was involved, why would he be?

  9. An 8,000 pound 'fine' for two people in lieu of going to prison for shoplifting a produce of much value (in Thailand anyway).

According to www.thaiprisonlife.com the average prison sentence for shoplifting at airport duty is a year (cut by half on pleading guilty). I think they are quite fortunate.

  10. Lots of interesting comments, turned into a good thread.

Unlike one of the very first comments im not chasing anyone. The idea came from....... before i signed up here at thaivisa i used to see a ladyboy posting a lot BambinaA.

Wondering where he had gone i checked his profile and not a single comment or op is listed, the history has been deleted.

Whatever happened to BambinaA and why delete the history??

  11. Even for myself a relatively new member of thaivisa forums i've noticed that some members who had been here for a long while and recorded a thousand or even thousands of posts just disappeared for some unknown reason. Leaves me wondering "What suddenly happened?".

Can anyone give me the lowdown why and perhaps well-known puzzles of former members in the past who just fled or disappeared one day ....

  12. Hi,

I am planning to travel Thailand on July 10. I am planning to visit Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and some islands in South Thailand. Heard that it will be June-October is rainy season in Thailand. Is it good to visit Thailand on July? Which part of Thailand(South, East,Central) is good to visit on July. Please also suggest me any additional information(weather and safety) related to the places mentioned above. Your reply is always appreciated.

    Thanks in advance...

July maybe the rainy season but it certainly doesnt mean that it's going to rain everyday. You can go days in a row in July in Thailand and not see a spot of rain. It's really a toss up.

Even when it does rain a lot the rain usualy comes down heavy but only for s short time bfore brightening up again - nothing to affect your holiday much. As written, maybe head to the west coast, not much rain there at all in July.

  13. "I will never come back to Thailand. I used to love it here, thinking that the Thai's were such a nice people, but the way that they treat foreigners who have been caught up in their legal system is apalling."

Friends and family managed to raise Mr Harris' bail last Wednesday and he is currently staying with a

Besides the appalling British OAP, the appalling bias report, what else i found appalling was that this trash newspaper can't even spell :):D

  14. Whatever happened to Sang Thip? I know there is Sang Som and Mekhong but a number of years ago it was all Sang Thip in the bars and clubs.

Also is Sang Som really rum as it tates virtually the same as the other two and they were/are both whiskies?

    Thanks.

Not sure about Sang Thip, but Mekhong is actually rum not whiskey, just like Sangsom. They're both made from sugar cane.

A Thai friend has been Googling in Thai, says that Sang Thip was originally called Sang Som. Then after Sang Thip they changed the name back to it's original name Sang Som.

Sang Som (Sang Thip) is registered as 'Rum' (Thai Rum) in terms of official alcohol type categories.

According to the alcohol licensing board (or what ever you call it in English) a Thai Rum is made out of sugarcane - so there you have it. It's actually a Thai Rum and not actual Rum. Maekhong Whiskey is also categorized as a Rum.

  15. The hospital bill was probably 30baht (or is it free now) courtesy of the government health program.

If he was trying to get in (breaking in) then you have right to defend your property.

100,000 to a drunkard local in Pattaya, his family will be having a massive celebration party. Let them take the matter to court - police and judges have no sympathy for drunkards. Or, 3 days in hospital? 10,000baht is max compensation.

    PS:

If this OP had been vice-versa, ie.... written by a farang in Pattaya saying he was drunk and spent three days in hospital after a Thai house owner hit him over the head, flaming comments of the opposite nature would be written ie... drunk farang deserved it.
