  1. This whole post seems to be scare mongering as usual. I don't see anything unreasonable in the posted Visa rules if someone can't be bothered to make an effort to read and write English after 2 years of living in the UK it's up to them, they won't get citizenship until you can. At least they don't have to keep a ridiculous amount of money in the bank to stay in the country.

  2. Many thanks for that no wonder I was having problems with contact. My parents enjoy this hotel especially my mother who can go shopping while the old man is a sleep. I noticed it was being renovated at the back but didn't realise it had been taken over.

  3. Looking at the BBC Market data page the current exchange against the Baht is 69.08 - Kasikorn bank are showing a TT rate of 68.71. Does this mean the offshore rate is currently stronger than the onshore rate? And isn't this unusual?

Whenever I see a scare mongering post about the strong Thai baht I always check the Thai banks for their latest rates as these are the one's that will be posted up in the Thai banks the next day. Money that is arriving in Thailand will use these local rates and not the rates of xe.com. Only exporters or Thai nationals leaving the country should worry about a strong baht, not expats inside Thailand.

I feel that message board information regarding exchange rates should be based on the Thai bank exchange rates not international information but then how would they attract 1000 viewers to this site.

  4. Hi Does anyone know if Thai limousine still run the taxi's from the new BKK to Pattaya. I've looked in other links and it is all to do with meter taxis to downtown Bangkok.

If so, how much and where from or am I better off using another form of transport baring in mind I could be loaded with bags. I arrive about 7am.

  5. Why would more people come to Pattaya just because the airport is 30 minutes closer??? do they look at the travel brochure and say" ooh! look, lets go to Pattaya instead of .......... it's only 1hour 30 mins to the beach instead of 2 hours ummmm??

The worst part of a trip to Pattaya from Don Muang airport is the daunting task of getting a taxi to take you there without being ripped off. It was well worth the walk to the domestic terminal to get a Thai limousine taxi for a fraction of the price charged at the international terminals. I'm sure the infrastructure for a better service to Pattaya from Suvarnabhumi Airport will be in place for the people who don't want to be herded around like cattle by tour operators and make the airport trip a quick 60 minute transfer.

  6. Thanks Alex 100.

    For the record:-

    Doha(Qatar) have Old Holborn 5 x 50g @ US$9.95 and Drum (blue) at US$11.00

    Don Muang Terminal 2 have Golden Virginia 5 x 50g @ 640 baht(£8.50) and Drum at 550 baht(£7.30).

Not bad considering you can't buy one single 50g packet of tobacco in the UK for under £10.

  7. I am guessing there would be a way for such a couple, depending on their priorities. You weren't clear on defining exactly what they want.  For example, do they need to work in Thailand, or are they just looking for a way to legally stay. That weekly cash flow is very ample for living in Thailand.

They could possibly get two investment visas, one for a new condo at over 3 million baht, and another parked in Thai bonds, and live on the UK income. Can a married farang couple both stay on ONE investment visa? If so, then one investment visa.

Thanks I've never heard of an investment visa. I'll look into it.

He wants to 'work' without doing too much work, although he is a builder by trade.

Doesn't feel he could sit around all day doing nothing. I guess you need to learn how to do that.

  8. I have been asked by a friend if it would be possible for him and his female farang partner to move to Thailand with £100k at his disposal. Buy a club or business of sorts, buy or build a house and live in Thailand, while his business at home is paying over £1k into his bank every week.

I have offered him every possible solution I know but am not up on the current legal status with regard being a club owner, buying land, if at all possible for a Uk couple without a Thai connection.

I've searched other posts for hours and not found anything with all the elements included.

The information I have offered him at present is to leave the money in the Uk until he has decided. Rent an apartment and spend 6 months looking around first. But there is no point in doing this if he can never own his own club or purchase land to build a house or even buy a ready made property.

His ultimate destination would be Pattaya. As it is a small town and has all amenities.

  9. I think smoking should be banned in all Public places and the smoker should decide which room in the house should be their smoking room without contaminating the rest of the house.

I've noticed on ebay more and more sellers are putting 'from a smoke free home' when selling an item.

Have you every noticed the smoker is always the last one to empty the ashtray.
