  1. Just where do you people live?

    130k THB = 4.000$US, 3.250Euro, 2.600GBP

Do you live in a palace?

    Rent 30k?!?

Bills 10k...is your aircon on 24/7?

    Housekeeping!

    Wife's debt...doesn't she have a job?

When Chalerm comes out and says that they are going to do something about the tourism mafia, everyone here in the forum mocks him.

When another stupid Farang has been sucked dry and is on his way out we all feel so sorry for him...

Just remember there are many more than just you who is on the way to the airport, this s**t happens every day, you were just not smart enough to live in the Land of Smiles.

130.000 Baht per month! That's my budget for 4 months, and that's with 4 motorbikes, a car, two houses and an office.

Have a safe trip home, hope you have learnt something from your stay here.

AndersNGA Clearly you haven't read any of the posts. How can you be so heartless ? It's easy to sit anonymously sprouting off behind your keyboard.

Murgatroyd is in a whole lot of pain right now. How about showing some sympathy. His wife became ill.

To Murgatroyd - I hope you can sort something out and return to your Wife and step - daughter soon. My heart goes out to you and I thank you for sharing this very difficult time with us all.

A lot of people considering moving to Thailand will indeed pick up a lot of pointers from the many posts here.

Best wishes for the coming months.

    Peace.

  2. The downstairs section of Jungceylon. Right to the end is a guy with a shoe and hat stall. I found 44's there. He may have 46's.

    Give it a ty anyway.

  3. i'm going to add this as another heads up...

i walk the nai harn lake frequently. during the week, usually between 6:30-7:30 in the evening, and weekend mornings between 7:30-9:00. last saturday morning, i was followed around the lake by an older thai man on a motorbike. he tried to talk to me, the typical "what's your name? you have boyfriend? where you go?" i ignored him and jogged away. make the second lap around the lake and he is waiting for me, so i turn back in the direction i came.

a few months ago, a thai man in a black truck grabbed a thai friend who was jogging late afternoon and tried to push her into his truck.

and, lastly, ladies beware..."the masturbator" is back. he comes out of the trees near the hill to ya nui beach. it doesn't matter what time of the day it is. he stands there, jerks off and tries to throw his semen on you. in the last month, i have seen him 4-5 times. he's an older guy who is often only wearing a t-shirt. and if you see him at night, chances are he will be standing underneath one of the lights doing his business.

an alternative to nai harn lake, which i have been checking out lately, is the rawai pier (or the chalong pier) as they both have lights and there are always people around.

Pretty brazen. Can't you just laugh at the size of it?

  4. Did Jessica stop to think that maybe normal families are wondering if it's safe to go back to Bangkok? We travel each year and do not even see the sex side of Bangkok.

Oh that might be because it's not in your face. But if you were to listen to Jessica, she makes it sound like the moment you land, you're accosted by the rampaging sex trade.

Not so Jessica, open your eyes and stop slagging off. Isn't it bad enough that tourism has dropped off? The thais depend on tourism and we will continue to visit.

  5. Hi,

My Husband and I have been holidaying in Thailand for the last 5 years but have never actually been to Pattaya.

We have no idea of what's is where so my questions are:

    1. What else is near Nirvana Place Resort?

    2. Where are some good places to eat?

    3. What are some fun things to do?

    4. How far is the beach? Can we walk there?

Any other pertinent information that you feel we should know.

    Thanks

  6. I'm guessing that this will mostly affect Bangkok and those of us outside Bangkok will just see a few extra road blocks.

I can only imagine that the police themselves won't be too keen to implement this in pro-Taksin areas such as Chiang Mai and Issan.

I wonder if this will prompt foreign countries to again recommend their citizens to avoid Thailand

My husband and I have been looking forward to our Phuket/ Bangkok holiday but now with all of the goings on, I'm not too sure we will keep to the Bangkok leg of our holiday.

What the hel_l??? Can't you all just go along to get along?

  7. Foreign intel must have gathered something that the Thai authorities or newspapers aren't saying

Does this mean travel insurance to thailand will be up?

I was quoted on my travel insurance to travel to Phuket and Bangkok for 2 weeks and it hadn't changed from when I was quoted 6 months ago. I doubt travel insurance will go up. We're still going on our holiday between 13th and 27th March. I hope to hel_l that all this crap has been sorted by then.

They aren't doing themselves any favours.

  8. To HDrider, where is boncafe? Thanks for the suggestion, any info is greatly appreciated.

Thank you Phuketrex for the suggestion of monte's - I shall look that one up.

Old croc, thanks for the fiddy's link

Pagallim, thanks but we like to stay in hotels that cater completely. I don't wish to cook for the two of us when on holidays but I'm sure some people do.

So I guess we'll have to drink tea while on holidays.

    Thanks guys :)

  9. Hi All,

    Thank you all very much.

We have taken down some of the excellent suggestions and thank you to those that gave me links to eateries.

I think we'll avoid the ones that are attached to the big hotels as the VAT ( what we refer to as vat, crack, and sack tax) takes a nice chunk.

We prefer the places like the hole in the wall restaurants that are owner run.

I thought I'd have to suss out where fiddy's is but Belfast Mike has told me it's on Soi San sabai. Thank you very much Mike!

Another question though - does anyone know where to get a decent coffee in Phuket. Please don't suggest Starbucks as my husband is still scraping the tar from the roof of his mouth.

    Thanks guys

  10. If you mean heart attack on a plate 'full english' then the best I know of, by a wide wide margin, is the offshore bar.. Black puddings the works.. Proper coronary material.

Not really sure for a continental style.. Used to drop into fiddys for poached eggs on toast for a lighter one.

    Hi LivinLOS,

I don't want a heart attack on a plate but thanks though. I wonder if you could tell me where fiddy's is?

  11. Can anyone tell me where you can get a nice western breakfast - either a la carte or buffet.

We are staying at the Absolute Sea Pearl and don't mind walking as far as Soi Post Office. We have been to Phuket 3 times before but each time we have eaten breakfast at the hotel we stayed at. We chose not to pay up front for breakfasts this time as there are days that you simply are not hungry.

I look forward to your responses.

  12. Amazing Thailand: by that I mean its amazing how tourists come to Thailand and behave outrageously which for the same offence back in their home countries might involve punishment having theirs limbs(or more intimate) parts of their bodies chopped off.

Lucky to get away with just a small fine.

Chopped Off?? Which perverse country takes pleasure in cutting off limbs as a punishment? I think you'll probably find that wherever these places are, the inhabitants are more likely than not, unable to afford a holiday anyway. :)

  13. Hi,

I have been researching a suitable TEFL course for the last few months. In that time, I've gathered a lot of information that is confusing the heck out of me.

Some sites tell me that all I need is a TEFL certificate to teach conversational English and grammar in Thailand but then there are other sites that tell me I need to have a BA in education, a teachers qualification, and according to some sites, I have to sit an exam before embarking on a TEFL career.

I don't want to teach the other subjects. I'm just interested in teaching little ones how to grasp the English language in a conversational way and to be able to hold there own. I'm also interested in teaching adults the English language.

The ITTT site pretty much explains that I don't need any previous teaching experience to do the 100 hour TEFL course which is my gateway to teaching in Thailand, well anywhere overseas. After the initial introductory course, I understand that they will assist me in getting a teaching role. I figure it is probably better to do the 250 hour online course as well.

Does anyone have any clearer ideas they are willing to light my direction with? I am a tad confused, and I don't want to be paying money for a couple of courses that may not net me a move toward my goal.

I look forward to the replies.

  14. If you live here, I would think you would immediately clue in to the fact that the only people that wear flip flops and shorts outside of the home are poor uneducated people...

Wow! Didn't realise so many people in Phuket were poor. And uneducated.

    :)

Who really cares what you're wearing?

It's hot, you're on holidays. you wear as little as possible.

If people are offended by this, perhaps there should be signs of some description - oh! hang on, who's going to read them anyway?

Tourists have, are and will continue to wear what they like.

  15. Put them under a grill, or, in a toaster (a couple of times). Slather with butter.

A pretty average crumpet as far as crumpets go, but, any crumpet in Thailand is amazing (Freudian slip?).

It's a shame they don't allow food in the post, because I'd quite happily send crumpets and honey for you guys from Oz.
