  1. I think that water filter won't be needed. The crud will stay at the bottom of the tank.

What you have to do just clean up the tank regularly, you can pay someone to do it, it doesn't cost a lot of money.

  2. Make it simple.

If the shower is in 2nd floor, install the water tank in 3rd floor.

Then install booster pump before the inlet pipe to the bathroom.

Choose the booster pump, which is activated by water flow, not by the water pressure.

If you choose the water pressure activation, then the pipe will suffer from high pressure all the time.

  3. I learned from my Thai teacher about her farang student complaining the way Thais put the question word in the end of the sentence instead of in the front of the sentence like most of farang's language.

Then I realized that I was wrong when trying to learn Thai while comparing/referring it with English.

My mother tongue is Indonesia, when I start comparing Thai language structure with Indonesian, I find many similarities:

    • Question word is the end of the sentence; Most question sentences in Indonesia language have question word in the end.
    • noun-adjective instead of adjective-noun; Farangs say "dining table", Thais say "table dining", Indonesians say "table dining" too
    • Repeated word for plural; Farangs say "friends", Thais say "friend-friend", Indonesian say "friend-friend" too
    • Thai language almost have no tenses, same like Indonesia; Both languages don't change the verb when describing event of different time.

That's all, which come to my mind now, but I am pretty sure that there are more similarities.

My problem as Indonesian speaker learning Thai is:

    1. Tone
    2. Vocabulary

I believe that for farangs, the problem should be added with "grammar"

Hence, for farangs trying to learn Phasa Thai, I think that you have to stop/avoid comparing/referring Thai language to English or any farang language.

Just make yourself like a stupid guy and absorb any structure, which your Thai teacher tells you.

    FYI, I also spoke a little Mandarin, but it was gone after I learned Thai for a few months;

Even I answered someone, who spoke Mandarin (I was in a Chinese restaurant in LA) to me, with Thai language crazy.gif

  4. It is sad to hear that Bangkok is flooded for so many days already.

I do hope that the flood will be over soon.

As for the Thai government, I think that they have done quite a good job to minimize the effect, but the flood is too bad.

I don't think that any farang country can do any better if the flood (at the same intensity) hits their country.

  5. Well, let Thais do the things in Thailand the Thai way, and farang do the things in their respective countries the farang way.

Will you be happy if some Chinese in Europe say that it is stupid to eat using fork and it is better to use chopstick as your only dining tool? Or some Arabs in UK condemn UK law, which doesn't prohibit women from swimming in the same pool with men?

Every nation has their own law and the only people who have the right to criticize the law is the citizen of that nation.

  6. ** flame removed, TAWP note **

Have you not noticed that every time there are democratic elections, the reds win but are removed from power by unconstitutional means!

Removed your flame, as I would like to respond to your post and not have the reply removed together with your post just because you lack manner.

You claim that the reds are voted into power.

That is false, the red has never von any election.

However, TRT, Thai Rak Thai, have won two elections. Both with the help of election fraud, I would say. (And the reason some MPs later got banned.)

Later PPP was formed and while they gained 'first try' from being the biggest minority party, the following banning of some MPs for election fraud (is this democratically right, to perform election fraud?) and the by-election to re-fill the seats, PPP (or the MPs that once was) could have remaind in power. However, the other parties in the coalition got tired of them and switched to support the Democrats, the second largest minority party. How is that unconstitutional?

Can you be more specific about "election fraud"?

If you mean vote buying, I think that all parties do the same.

If you mean manipulating the voting result, then it is a true election fraud.

  7. <br>Are you farang?<br>If yes, then you should know that there are signs in Europe and foreign tourists are supposed to comply.<br>In Jakarta, I use to walking across the street even if there is no zebra cross nor traffic light, may I argue a London (please change "London" to any capital city of your country) policeman, who catch me walking across the street?<br>

It's not illegal to walk across the street in London, we do it all the time, we are still allowed to think for ouselves for some things.

Well, then let's change to something else LOL :D

My point is "Some countries have restrictions, like or not we have to comply if we want to visit/stay that country"

  8. PPS. Tourists do not walk around looking at the signs

    Are you farang?

If yes, then you should know that there are signs in Europe and foreign tourists are supposed to comply.

In Jakarta, I use to walking across the street even if there is no zebra cross nor traffic light, may I argue a London (please change "London" to any capital city of your country) policeman, who catch me walking across the street?

  9. "We have long believed that religion in Thailand is a harmonious blend of Buddhism, Brahmanism [Hinduism], and polytheism."

I have always considered Buddhism - a "method of applied psychology" rather than "religion". Could someone make a comment on this - pro or con ?

I think that you put your posting in the wrong place.

This forum is strictly about Thai language discussion.

If you want to discuss about Buddhism, you should go to http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Buddhism-f42.html

  10. I am sure there are individual cases of money changing hands and the yellow shirts used the same sort of incentives.

However if it was just a matter of money and not genuine greivances then the solution would be simple. Just pay them to go home.

The shops are losing something like a billion baht a day in business so just give them half and the problem will go away.

The trouble is the reds wouldn't take it. They are proud and cannot be bought by those they feel are bad people.

Yes, I totally agree with this.

PAD did the same (giving money) but obviously most of them joined the demonstration for what they believe.

  11. Consider Thaksin is the bad guy.

But it is the fact that the current government raised to power because of a demonstration...

Sorry no that is NOT a fact.

There were TWO governments put in place via domestic voting PRIOR to this current government.

When this coalition was formed there WAS NO demonstration nor airport take over happening.

This government was installed by the same process as the one before it.

No difference except the leading players changed.

Stop buying into the propaganda lie that is the basis of this coming riot situation.

Look, I am not a supporter of Thaksin (if I did, my Thai friends would kill me because they hate Thaksin :) )

However, if Abhisit came to power NOT because of the demonstration, then what was the purpose of PAD demonstration?

I think that politicians are the same in every country, they see where the wind blows and take their position accordingly.

  12. Consider Thaksin is the bad guy.

But it is the fact that the current government raised to power because of a demonstration.

Hence, a fresh election is needed and if Abhisit and his gang really loves Thailand, they must do their homework i.e. educating poor people not to succumb to vote buying.

The question, do they have such passion to do it? Or they just simply want to have instant power so that the ROI is high?

  13. its takes less than 5 minutes to conduct the actual aids test.....add on say 3 hours each way for the blood to be transported to the hospital/testing facility and the reslts to be returned......you have around 4 hours....add a few more hours for "RED SHIRT" traffic jams...........hey they poured the blood over 2 weeks ago.......but today they release the results????????? Obv a govt generated piece of BS....tarnish the reds at all cost....they want democracy....don't let them

    I like this analysis.

Current government is facing their own karma.

A fresh election is a must and in future, no demonstration shall be allowed to block any public service (Suvarnabhumi blockage was a crime)

  14. Dogs are like human beings, some of them are gracious, some of them are kind, some of them are temperamental, even some of them are born bandits.

The environment also form the characteristic of the dogs.

I had experience feeding a dog in Chatuchak, I didn't know whether it was a soi dog or it belonged to someone; The dog looked in a good condition.

I asked my 4 years old daughter to give the fried rice (our food leftover), my daughter was scared so she simply threw the food to the dog.

The dog kept laying down and did nothing, just looking to my daughter.

Then I collected the food back into the styrofoam container and put the container in front of it; Slowly it stood and started eating the food.

I told my daughter that when she gives food to anybody or anything, she has to give it politely.

However, if you ask me about what would I do if I were the OP, then I'd consider the poisoned pork.

It is quite reasonable that the pack of dogs is quite dangerous, hence somebody has to do something to eliminate the possibility of problem to someone else.

We know that there is death penalty for human, who is considered dangerous for the rest of the population.

  15. I am not in favor for the tuktuk driver, however the Anwar guy is really a moron.

How much money he usually earns in Japan? Is THB50 a big deal for him?

Let's imagine, if he happens to drop a THB100 bill on an animal dropping, will he pick it up?

Yes, although it is totally wrong, but a poor tuktuk driver may want to sacrifice his blood for THB50.

Yes that the guy has been overcharged, but he has enough money to fly from Japan to Phuket and stays in hotel, why he has to make a fuss for 50Baht?

I guess that he also doesn't want to leave a tip in restaurant because the somtam is too spicy.

  16. 62 million baht invested in 19000 businesses, that is only 3150bt each business. Figures dont sound right to me.

It's time to make business. only 3150THB to become rich!!! Or perhaps i will wait a promotion: Buy one business, get one free :)

comes to 31,500Bt/business....still not much, I'm sure an investigation will show these businesses bring money to Thailand not take it out

Well, perhaps the reporter meant 62 billion? Hence 3.15 million/business?

Or perhaps, 62 million is just the registered figure? I register my company in Singapore and I stated the paid capital as S$88; It is completely legal here and my consultant told me that it only affects me when I am attending a tender.

BTW, I am wondering, when Thaksin was on power, did you guys had so many complains like this?

I am asking because I really don't know about the situation before 2006 coup.

  17. Well, my advice to all, who are considering GPS device:

If you want to use it in your car, buy an appropriate GPS for automobile navigation.

Any PDA or mobile phone with GPS is useless unless you want to have several wrong turns and (perhaps) put yourself or other people in danger by concentrating more on the GPS PDA/phone than the road.

I decided to buy my own GPS device after knowing that my friend, who is a Thai, bought a GPS for himself because he cannot be sure about the road path in Thailand.

He had similar activity like me i.e. visiting factories for our job.

After doing some research, I decided to buy Garmin Nuvi 200W in Amazon last year; The price in Thailand was so expensive (around THB 15,000)

Garmin 200W is Amazon costed me around USD 200, and I bought Thailand ESRI map (also from Amazon) for around USD 100, hence my cost was around USD 300 (around THB 10,000)

Then I had somebody, who happened to visit Thailand from USA, to bring the GPS to Bangkok.

Before using Garmin, I had experience to travel from Sukhumvit soi 12 to soi 24 for 2 hours in the night time, obviously because I took the wrong way.

Things are good since I had my Garmin; Now I even dare to drive to Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa floating market; Driving to Huahin or Cha-Am? It's so easy.

  18. Just an update for the doubters about bullet wounds to the head & the ability to walk around.....

    From The Age newspaper.....

Woman has cuppa after being shot in the head

    April 18, 2009 - 10:47AM

A woman who was shot in the head not only survived but made herself tea and offered an astonished deputy something to drink.

Authorities said on Friday that Tammy Sexton, 47, remained hospitalised three days after being wounded by her husband, who killed himself after he shot her.

A bullet struck her squarely in the forehead, passed through her skull and exited through the back of her head. She is expected to fully recover........

    Full story here http://www.theage.com.au/world/woman-has-c...90418-aaj9.html

An ironic joke from Indonesia: In that case, you have to shoot the knee in order to kill that kind of person.

A common insult in Indonesia: Do you have your brain in your knee?

  19. This is just my theory, based on my imagination:

The shooting is intended to kill Sondhi by a group of people. The group has use Sondhi to the dirty job, and has promise him that they will reward him with .... you name it, could be be wealth, own TV station, power, even the PM chair?

However, now Sondhi is demanding payment, which the group have to intiontion to pay in the first place. Sondhi treaten to disclose the deal, so the small group will have to hire someone (possible with previous military trainning) to silent him.

As for the identity of the small group, I don't think it is UDD/UAAD/Thaksin/RED as the situation is too hot on them now. This group is using the opportunity to lay blame to Thaksin.

Sounds like a movie's synopsis to me.

Let's have it further, the ammos are from three assault riffles, and all guys have the same chance to shower it, but why ammos from M16 are only 3?

Is it possible that somebody simply spread it without actually shot it at the scene? Perhaps to add some more dramatic effect? Or simply because doesn't know the difference among ammo?

  20. And all the American's votes were really counted in 2000 and the guy who got the most popular votes became President !!! You Americans can be so holier that thou ! You think that only your system of government works, even when it doesn't.

As to violent demonstrations you seem to completely forget the Vietnam war protest and demonstrations, the 1968 Democratic National Convention, the murder of students at Kent State by the National Guard and so much more in your history even the more recent release by the Obama administration (yesterday) of documents from the Bush administration authorizing torture by the CIA

So you think this is all about Thaksin? Whatever. Southeast asia, right or wrong, when the "peasants" get upset things happen, the ruling party gets hurt -- remember laos, cambodia, vietnam? If people don't understand this, have fun for the next few years. "Som na mun.." is this the correct saying?

Well, I can agree and disagree at the same time.

Leaders in Southeast Asia cannot accept their lost, they must win at any cost; When they lost, they don't like the winner.

Meanwhile, the peasants just want to have a lighter burden (economic) than what they are having now, and leader who can prove that he/she can ease the burden, will have closest place to their heart. And the peasants will do anything to support the leader, not for the sake of the leader but merely for their own life and their gratitude.

  21. Perhaps Thailand is just trying to catch up with the US, in terms of insane gun violence.

Oh me gosh...Thailand is a gun slinging society. What else other than....corruption, political assassinations, prostitution, human trafficking, child sexual abuse, swindling of tourists' money, suppression of the poor, buisness dispute killings, real estate scams, jealousy crimes, autonomy by army and police, a misguided society, rioting, civil unrest, a bias Foreign business act......

I wonder now what investors would consider before investing in Thailand, is there any benefit at all to come to Thailand?

    So, we are you now?

  22. the red shirts AND the yellow shirts are destroying our country. Justice for all, means punishment for all...ALL the red/yellow criminals need to be arrested and jailed for their crimes against Thailand.

Only then will our PM gain the respect of the silent majority of good Thai citizens.

A lot of people are trying to equate the yellows and the reds. Although the airport occupation was a stupid and harmful act, to my recollection the yellows didn't shoot anyone, or set any fires, or vandalize any public or private property. Get real. The yellows might have some questionable motives and tactics but, so far, they have not shown anything like the thuggishness and brutality of the reds.

As for Sondhi, if not for him Thailand might now be ruled by President Thaksin in the style of President Marcos. I always thought he opposed Thaksin at great personal risk, and I have unfortunately been proven right.

Given that most of the reds are uneducated poor Thais and the yellows are middle level bangkokians, you cannot expect the same style of demonstration.

However, I am sure that the yellows know the consequence of blocking the airport to Thailand economy, while the reds simply express their anger to their hard life.
