Pakistan and Afghanistan "well controlled"?  Do you think these governments have the financial and technical means to jam radio signals across thousands of kilometers of border and millions of square kilometers of territory?  Please tell us more.

Thailand wants to censor BBC news.  The BBC won't agree.  The towers will be moved, Thailand will lose out on the money paid and the country's reputation will suffer another blow.

BBC news has been censored for years! By the BBC itself! If you believe they broadcast the truth, you're living in cloud cuckoo land. Only politically correct sh.. comes out of the BBC these days so that they don't offend the 'new natives' and the corporate giants of this world. CNN, NBC, you name them, all the same.

  2. I have a 30mb download internet line from True for 799+vat per month. I bought a cheap TV Beelink box from Gearbest online and although it was fully loaded with an old version of Kodi, I uninstalled and upgraded, then installed the Pulse CNN build plus Mobdro. Not too impressed with Mobdro but have many sources of most TV streams. With a good internet connection this has to be the cheapest way to get TV. Delivery following order took under 2 weeks with a 90 day money back guarantee. Well pleased.

  3. My daughter completed her exams for this school year, about two weeks ago. Since then, she has received very little by way of teaching because her teachers simply don't turn up, or may appear for the first 5/10 minutes of the lesson and then leave. Even pre exams, she was lucky to get a teacher for more than about 70 percent of actual teaching time, the one subject where a teacher was most in attendance being Buddhism. A few years ago I was asked by the local village school to teach English there, which I did. On several occasions, particularly afternoons, I was the only one teaching because the permanent teaching staff were all 'down the pub', celebrating a birthday or the purchase by one teacher of a new car. Thai teachers are a law unto themselves.

  4. The Thai Army would be way down the list as a career, in my eyes. Dig out a couple of video posts seen regularly on social media sights, where army 'training' of recruits is shown to be carried out by several NCOs on one recruit, using canes and boots. Show him these videos. He'll never want to join the animals in the Thai Army after seeing them!

  5. The rush has already started. Just returned to Lahansai from Nang Rong and route 24 going onto Buriram and Surin is packed. Lower road from east Bangkok via Non Din Daeng going through Lahansai also a continuos line of traffic. If it's like that here in Isaan, it'll be far worse out of Bangkok. Get away now!

  6. Thank's for the helpful advice guys. Peterrabbit has almost picture imaged my thoughts on the issue and this is what I also expected a lawyer to say. By the way 'happy grumpy', for advice not a lawsuit is what I said in my first post about contacting a lawyer. Anyway. thank's again.

  7. My Thai wife was knocked off her motorbike by a car. The car driver has admitted liability and this has been recorded by the local police station. However, the car is not the driver's and the car insurance though fully comprehensive does not cover the driver. The insurance was obtained via a bank and they called in the assessor. To cut a long story short, on the second 'meeting' at the police station, it appears that the assessor, the driver and the police are involved in setting up an insurance to cover the driver. A second police report though still blaming the car driver has now been issued stating a different date for accident, a different location, a different car also. Obviously all in Thai and scribbled such that my wife didn't notice the changes until later. During the negotiations the driver claiming poverty, (damage to the bike is around 12,000 bt), and we are asking ourselves where is this scam taking us? If only to ask advice do any members know of a 'fair' lawyer in the Nangrong area of Buriram? We obviously feel like 'fronting' all of the parties involved but Thai police are just that and we still have to live here. Any advice from members would also be appreciated.

  8. After a long wait, I'm about to get an internet service provided by 3BB. I'm pretty much a layman when it comes to obtaining my TV service via the internet but have been advised to do so via an MXQ TV box. I've seen them advertised on ebay but the packages vary a little in content and description. I'm looking for the bare minimum requirements which seem to be the box and a remote plus leads. But the boxes are named MXQ; MXQ PRO; SMART MXQ; etc. Can sny body advise on what I should go for? Are they good at what they are supposed to do? Are they difficult to 'drive' remembering that I am not a 'computer buff'?

  9. I have a yellow house book for my house in Hua Hin. My visa is non O plus retirement issued at HH. I do though live alot of the time at my wife's Isaan house. Can I renew my 5 year driving licence at the local Isaan licence renewal office, or do I have to do it in Hua Hin?

  10. Just purchased a Toyota Hilux 2.5 G. It and a few other models were on special offer due to the new models coming out soon. It came off the assembly line in December 2012 so was discounted by 20%. List price 780,000 bt. I got it for 624,000 bt. and if you wanted it over 4/5 years, there were options available where you would still not have paid the list price at the end of the term. My advice, look around the Toyota dealers before buying elsewhere.

  11. I'll be paying 12 baht each for the chicks. (Asked the price of 3 blood chicks from a local feed and farm stock shop - 45 baht each!)

Can't read Thai so don't know brand of feed but price 510 for starter feed and 500 baht from one month onwards (per sack).

He reckons 3 sacks per 100 birds per month. So at around 2 months the cost for 300 is 9090 baht. Add the birds at 3600 baht, basic cost is 12690 baht.

Looking at his last 150 bird sale after approximately 2 months, 'assuming' 1.5 kilos per bird at 70 baht a kilo, he did well.

  12. He says that they are 4 blood. They are black, no idea what colour they start off with, but when we first saw them just after 6 weeks old, they were totally black. He gets them from what I would assume is a breeding centre of sorts, which is also where he works.

Yes of cause, I'll put some photos up as soon as I get the chicks - on going aswell.

Is keeping the lights on a known benefit to growth Jake? I'd love to get my hands on something solar if it is. Anybody know if they're sold in Thailand?

  13. Hi Jontham, I'm 4km outside Lahansai, Buriram.

Went to see the Thai guy late yesterday with my wife. He'd sold the remaining 150 birds at about 9 weeks and (he said), an average weight of 1.5 kilos. I reminded him of his 3 month 2 kilo weight statement from the last time we met and he was pretty vague about it this time. Said the feed during the first month needed to be adjusted to put the weight on early. In other words, difficult to achieve it seems, so I owe you guys an apology for insisting that it was possible.

Anyway, we covered costs against sale price of all the birds and he made what I consider to be a fair profit. Any profit against light and interesting 'work', is OK by me and if the margin can be improved, I'm in. So.....as we already have a suitable building which just needs a bit more work done to it, I ordered 300 chicks which should be available in about 3 weeks. I'm going to follow his modified feed program etc., and when we're at the sale stage we're also going to use his dealers. He says that there's no problem moving them on and I get the feeling that they go South to Cambodia.!!

My wife and the Thai guy talk in Kymer. My wife passes on her interpretation of what he says voluntarily or in answer to my questions, so there may be one or two misinterpretations for which I once again apologise for. The gist of it though has got me hooked.

  14. Thanks Jotham (and all). A lot of useful info to digest and consider. This isn't something I've only recently decided to investigate. It's just that the current prices have 'added fuel to the fire'.

A Thai guy we know went into this 'activity' some months ago and offered help and advice if we fancied trying the same. I've stood back for a while because caution seemed the best policy. I also think it best to get alternative and more in depth advice, which is where we are now. He's doing exactly the same as I now want to do. Small/moderate scale, 300 birds at a time, some (half) sold at 6 weeks old. We saw the remaining 150 birds (which are black but I don't know the breed), and via questions and answers, was told of the 3 month weight expectancy. ie., 2 kilos per bird. He buys the chicks very cheaply (he said), and also buys in the feed. He's offered to get the chicks for me if I want to give it a go.

Obviously, now armed with a lot more info, I'll soon be on my way to visit this guy, when many more questions will be asked. It will also update me on final weight and sale prices of the remaining 150 birds.

Thank's again everybody. I'll keep you posted.
