  1. So sad but as one born in the States when black citizens of our own country were refused service on a regular basis and could not even use the same toilets as whites, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that this type of crime is still being committed elsewhere. I have however stayed in hotels in Bangkok where there were many African men and women also in residence who were treated well by the staff who greeted them on a first name basis. However, when I stay in Bangkok with my Thai partner, he is frequently treated like a prostitute by the Thai staff. This despite the fact that he speaks several languages, is highly educated and works for the government. It's shameful that these properties are discriminating against against Africans and Indians but even worse is how they treat their own people.

  2. I know this forum is for medical issues but thought this might be the right place to ask about a medical employment issue. I friend of mine who is a registered nurse in America needs one year of experience in critical care but the job market is tight in the States right now and is unable to find employment there. Without the year's experience, he is restricted in employment and compensation. He is looking for a contact at Bumrungrad in hopes of getting a position there. He speaks English and Tagalog fluently but not Thai. Pay is not really an issue for him, but the experience and future benefits it will pay.

Thanks in advance for any information.

  3. It is more than a year ago that I stayed in Korat for a couple of nights. I stayed at the V-One Hotel. It was very nicem but it also seemed to me that the entire male staff were gay. In the evening they had a woman playing acoustic guitar and singing in the lobby bar. The clientele (as well as the singer) all seemed to be gay. It was a very pleasant evening. I think they had a pool table as well. Also the lobby lounge was right next to the swimming pool if you are a swimmer.

Thanks. I stayed at V-One a year ago but never hit the bar. We'll have to try it some night. And yes, all the boys seemed gay....

  4. I've been trying to find a gay or gay friendly bar in Korat since before we moved here last year with no luck yet. As fast as they open, they shut their doors before we have a chance to check it out. We're not looking for go go boys or a bath house, but a place to hang out, meet and chat with other guys, listen to music, play pool .... normal and boring stuff. If anyone out there knows of a such a place in Korat, we'd appreciate a push in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance,

  5. Thanks for all of your help. We'll check out these places this summer when we move back to town. We're not looking for the big city night life, just a place to hang out for a beer or go dancing once in awhile. We currently live in Honolulu which is a small city so we're used to the quiet life. I also expect most of our free time will be spent entertaining his family as well. Another reason to need a night out once in a while. :o

  6. My partner and I are moving to Korat this summer and I was hoping that there were some kind of gay life in the city. While I know that Isaan tends to be on the conservative, and closeted side, I still thought there might be a bar or pub where we can hang out with other gay men and lesbians. He is from the area originally and we visited last year but didn't see or hear of anything remotely "gay" other than the local cruising spots which we are not interested in.
