  1. Utter dick....but 4 months for a moronic tshirt. Makes the UK look like Putin's Russia.

Often the best way to deal with brain-dead gits is to let them make fools of themselves , a skill they often excel at.

Nah, he'll only do a couple of months - I would say thats just about right in the circumstances - he isn't a kid and doesn't have mental issues.

he SHOULD be allowed to say whatever he wants to say!!!

how many people (in a debate, or on chat shows, or TV) say: "I hope that rapist gets executed", or some kind of pro-nazi (jew killing) comment.

do these people end up in Jail for inciting murder? NO!!

people are allowed to say what they want!

so should the writers of Southpark go to jail??? they do pretty much everything that is possibly bad!!!

but they DONT go to jail!

i think its disgusting how the Police always protect their own! they go to the end of the earth to "look after themselves" (like a maffia family), but they never show such commitment when it comes to 'non-connected' people.

yes, the guty is silly for doing such a thing. but he should NOT be in jail for it. even for a few hours. NO.

if you know speakers corner in london (hyde park) you will hear this kind of talk all day long!!!

how about jailing the editors of all newspapers when they WISH or incite that terrorists are caught and killed.

You are confused. The sentiments written on the man's T shirt were akin to the sort of things preached by the muslim cleric recently extradited to the USA. That is preaching (in the case of the T shirt, advocating) killing of UK citizens. How else do you interpret "One less pig; perfect justice" on the front and "kill a cop 4 fun.com ha,haaa?" It is incitement to murder and should not be tolerated. The example above of newspaper editors is just plain wrong. I have never heard of a newspaper editor inciting readers to murder or inciting police officers to "kill" terrorists. Advocating that terrorists should be executed after they have been found guilty is something most of us would agree with, and does not amount to incitement to commit a crime.

  2. Aussie Arrested For Posting Lady's Nude Pics

    aus.jpeg

Chonburi immigration police arrested a 56-year-old Australian for posting nude photographs of a Thai woman on the Internet, in an apparent extortion attempt. The woman said the nude photos destroyed her reputation and notified police. The man denied trying to blackmail her.

PATTAYA – October 9, 2012 [PDN]; at 9 p.m., the arrest of a man for posting nude photos of a Thai female in a blackmail attempt was announced by acting superintendant Pol. Col. Chaiyos Warakjoonkiet, immigration department, Chonburi province; along with the detective police team.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Glavina Luciano, age 56, nationality Australian. He is charged with trying to extort money, libeling others by displaying, distributing, or showing to people pornography on the Internet accessible to public view, according to the arrest warrant of Rayong Provincial Court at J.650/2555, dated September 25, 2012.

Police said the victimized woman came to notify the Khao Chamao police station, Rayong province, about the blackmail attempt. She said that nude photograhs of herself were posted online, which made her lose her reputation. After obtaining evidence, immigration officers of Chonburi province requested an arrest warrant from Rayong provincial court to arrest Mr. Glavina.

I agree with posters who say that he has not been convicted of anything yet, so the presumption of innocence seems reasonable - perhaps not in Thailand. If he is proven guilty of attempted blackmail in the alleged manner then he is truly an idiot and deserves all he gets. But there are a number of confusing issues not the least of which is the idea of "libel". I always thought that a defence to libel was to show that it was the 'truth' and or 'opinion'. The posting of a nude picture surely cannot be judged to be 'untrue' and depending on how the picture is taken (degree of private action as in sexual activity) will rest the issue of "pornography". Surely a straight forward nude photo cannot be judged as pornographic even in Thailand.

None of what I have said detracts from his stupidity in posting the picture(s) in the first place but there must be much more to this for such serious charges to be levelled and supported by the court. It will be interesting to hear how the court case goes or whether it all gets sorted out with pre trial money.

  3. Easy to hide, till the money runs out. 3m bht 2yrs. about right.

Didn't you read the story sold house more than likely in germany how about 3 mil. euros.

when you guyst start READING??? it says bt3 million ... I cant find a EURO sign in this...

and I dont know HOW you are living.... With 3million Baht I live in Thailand till the end of my days....and thats more as most of you have left smile.png not even 50 yet smile.png with just 500.-Baht I can make a living here, incl. car or motobike or both.... bet most of you millionaires or billionaires will never understand HOW this works ... ever visited a NORMAL Thairestaurant? for 100.-Baht a meal incl. something to drink I can go eat there 2 times a day.... But ok, I drink only 2 beers everyday and sometimes not at all..... stop drinking, smoking and you make it....hehehehe

Whilst I would like to be in a position to spend 3m baht in 2 years, I find your assertions a little naive. Even in Phuket you can eat a good Thai meal for under 100 baht and find a beer for 50/60 baht. But if you eat 2 x 100 baht meals each day that comes to 73000 baht each year just on food for you. What about the cost of your car, motor bike, house, clothes, petrol, wife or girlfriend, TV, visa extensions, computer with broadband (to be able to post on TV) etc etc etc. Or don't these expenses count. I don't understand how you get by on 500 baht - is this per day, per week? The numbers do not add up.

    Under 50 and living like a 17th century peasant - I don't envy you.

  4. Most posters here are no better than the system, they are bashing. A system all based on money, where the wealth of the perp should decide the size of the compensation. So if you are "lucky" your familymember is killed by a Ferrari, giving you the means to live happily ever after. Bad luck if your relative is hit by a poor taxidriver, because by using the same of twisted logic a fair compensation in the latter case would be 2000-3000 baht. OR ??

Punishments are meant to deter, this is not about the compensation per se, therefore the outrage is at what many perceive to be a rich playboy getting away with killing someone and (by his standards) paying a pittance to do so. It wouldn't matter if he was rich or poor, if both were treated equally in the eyes of the law OR society in general. Unfortunately, here they are not.

I wonder how this type of situation would play out if both of the parties involved were rich, and 3 million baht wouldn't really make much of a difference to the great wealth already possessed by the victim's family. Would they push for true justice, or would the price just increase substantially?

I've lived here quite a while. but I can't think of a case that's similar in any way involving 2 rich families. Can anyone recall such a situation?

Not quite the same scenario but remember the guy who shot a policeman in a night club in front of hundreds of witnesses, then ran away to Malaysia (or was it Cambodia). He eventually came back and fell on his knees in front of his father (big scene for the saving of face etc.). He was then escorted to the police station with his father and given bail. When it all came to court there were no witnesses so he was found 'not guilty'. A rich family - yes. Guess who the father was!!!

Thais may well be outraged, but they have learned to accept that the rich and powerful will always get their own way.

  5. From Trolley dolly to Trolley granny... the idea is great! whatever the pun people are people and when they can relate and help people by being simply people, without all the plastic and manipulative ideals of the industry. I was on a Quantas flight many years ago and this was then a part of quantas, I felt I was with people rather than a bunch of hand picked dolly due to their height, body mass and legs.

I'm sure you are making an interesting and insightful point - I just don't understand what it is!! whistling.gif

  6. I think this is a good idea for Thai Air. If all the old "ladies" are employed by Thai Air the younger ones who are stunningly attractive can be hired by Qatar and other good quality airlines. As I never fly Thai (tried them once) this is a great arrangement.

I fly business with Qatar every time now, and am very happily served by an array of very attractive young ladies who are very attentive and give great service. I am sure that they have all the skills necessary to open doors and give instructions - should the need arise if any of us are still alive after a crash. But forget the crash scenario, as hopefully most of us in business class will be full of good food and champagne and enjoying the ride down to oblivion gazing at the beautiful flight attendants. Just imagine the same ride down with a 59 year old 'knuckle dragger' for company!!

To be in the company of very attractive (and often beautiful) ladies when flying is part of the pleasure.

  7. I do understand .......

but wonder why the government didn't pay off the unemployed alcoholics debts directly, instead of bailing out the banks.

(as then all the drunks wouldn't be homeless and living in tents, and the banks wouldn't be owning worthless empty houses)

The problem would still have existed. The drunks probably were all homeless and living in tents anyway, but the problem really is that these worthless debts (which as you suggest could have been paid off earlier) have created lots of paper securities (which are basically worthless) but which are viewed as a sound investment. So long as they are demanded and sold and rise in price and value as assets the whole charade continues.

Paying off the original debt at this stage doesn't stop the collapse and unemployment of those firms whose balance sheets are made up of the worthless paper.

By the way banks love to see complicated paper bonds rated AA. They hate drunks with no money. They are also staffed by greedy people who want to earn bonuses by selling the paper bonds. All the poor drunks want is to drink themselves to death!!

  8. Helga is the proprietor of a bar. She realizes that virtually all of her customers are unemployed alcoholics and, as such, can no longer afford to patronize her bar. To solve this problem she comes up with a new marketing plan that allows her customers to drink now, but pay later.

    Helga keeps track
    ,
    in
a ledger, of the drinks consumed (thereby granting loans
    to the customers).

Word gets around about Helga's "drink now, pay later" marketing strategy and, as a result, increasing numbers of customers flood into Helga's bar. Soon she has the
    l
argest sales volume for any bar in town.

By providing her customers freedom from immediate payment demands Helga gets no resistance when, at regular intervals, she substantially increases her prices for wine and beer - the most consumed beverages.

Consequently, Helga's gross sales volumes and paper profits increase massively. A young and dynamic vice-president at the local bank recognises that these customer debts constitute valuable future assets and increases Helga's borrowing limit. He sees no reason for any undue concern, since he has the debts of the unemployed alcoholics as collateral.

He is rewarded with a six figure bonus.

At the bank's corporate headquarters, expert traders figure a way to make huge commissions, and transform these customer loans into DRINKBONDS. These "securities" are then bundled and traded on international securities markets.

Naive investors don't really understand that the securities being sold to them as "AA Secured Bonds" are really debts of unemployed alcoholics. Nevertheless, the bond prices continuously climb and the securities soon become the hottest-selling items for some of the nation's leading brokerage houses.

The traders all receive a six figure bonus.

One day, even though the bond prices are still climbing, a risk manager at the original local bank decides that the time has come to demand payment on the debts incurred by the drinkers at Helga's bar. He so informs Helga. Helga then demands payment from her alcoholic patrons but, being unemployed alcoholics, they cannot pay back their drinking debts. Since Helga cannot fulfil her loan obligations she is forced into bankruptcy. The bar closes and Helga's 11 employees lose their jobs.

Overnight, DRINKBOND prices drop by 90%. The collapsed bond asset value destroys the bank's liquidity and prevents it from issuing new loans, thus freezing credit and economic activity in the community.

The suppliers of Helga's bar had granted her generous payment extensions and had invested their firms' pension funds in the BOND securities. They find they are now faced with having to write off her bad debt
    ,
losing over 90% of the presumed value of the bonds. Her wine supplier also claims bankruptcy, closing the doors on a family business that had endured for three generations
    .
Her beer supplier is taken over by a competitor, who immediately closes the local plant and lays off 150 workers.

Fortunately though, the bank, the brokerage houses and their respective executives are saved and bailed out by a multibillion dollar
    ''
    no-strings

    ''
    cash infusion from the government.

They all receive a six figure bonus.
The funds required for this bailout are obtained by new taxes levied on employed, middle-class, non-drinkers who've never been in Helga's bar.

  10. Flew them for years from 2005-2008 and watched them steadily decline in quality. Their in seat entertainment was a bit odd, economy had the selectable userface, but business class had to make due with channels that looped movies.

I have noticed that they are more expensive than the rest, at least for me. BKK to EWR (Newark NJ).

I flew Singapore air in April and it was fantastic, I also LOVE Thai Air, but they discontinued their BKK to JFK nonstop flights...

I also flew with EVA for years until I discovered Qatar Air. In economy, on EVA, the seating is what you expect and the food is barely edible - get a good feed in advance of the flight. In 'economy deluxe' the seat is a little wider but goes back no further than economy. The food is the same as economy, the wine undrinkable (to my palate). But the price is twice as expensive. In business class the seats are well spaced but they are not the business class seats of the 'main airlines'. They are the 160 degree seats in which you slide down when trying to sleep. The food is marginally better than in economy and the wine is drinkable. However the premium is much higher than the good middle eastern airlines.

I like Qatar Air. The fares are usually as cheap if not cheaper than EVA and the service is first class in all fare categories. Etihad are good for economy at a very reasonable price. But like other posters I prefer to have a break in the middle of this very long flight so the middle Eastern Airlines suit me.

The best direct flight I have been on is Singapore Air (LHR - HKT via Singapore) but this is very expensive and the firm paid.

In summary you get what you pay for. Avoid going anywhere via India, no matter how cheap. EVA Air about the same as Thai Air.

  11. It seems that not long ago, there would be a small brigade of people defending Phuket in a thread like this. However, the same passion to defend it doesn't appear in this thread. Those past defenders appeared to be foreigners who had business interests there (and would understandably want people to think well of Phuket). Does the the lack of defensive comments indicate that those business people have given up trying to redeem Phuket's reputation, moved away from Phuket (maybe to Chiang Mai), or are now in agreement that Phuket really is a dangerous place?

After 15 years in Thailand - 12 of them in Phuket - enough is enough. I have returned to the UK where it is colder, more expensive (just) and a politically correct mess, BUT it is civilised, law abiding and safe. My whole family feel comfortable and not threatened here. When Burma opens up I may try again in SE Asia.

  12. I returned to the UK 1 year ago after 15 years in Thailand. Take out the worry of health care for myself and my son and the cost of eduction for my son and the cost of living in the UK is not that much different from Thailand. (More precisely 'Phuket'). It is also amazing how lack of corruption makes one feel so much easier, day to day.

As for the 'baht bus noodle eaters' good luck to you, Thailand is the right place for you as in Europe, USA or Australia you would not be happy.

  13. For those that continually slag the Thai's , you should not be here '''''' you all obviously have nothing nice to say about any one.

When you speak , you only voice an opinion and we all know an opinion is like your rear end , we all have one.

I'm an Ozy living here like many other's I respect the police and all those that try to make this country a better place for all. Stop being so negative in your posts 'bad news can travel half round the world before we can get our pants on , your negativity will do nothing but give some people a misguided opinion of this wonderful county and make you look like an uneducated dick.

You are obviously a very experienced local expat resident with an overwhelming sense of fair play. May I enquire what medication you are on and whether it is freely available over the counter?

I have lived here for 15 years and have seen nothing but lying, cheating and rampant corruption. I am obviously in need of the medication.

  14. She booked the test in her married name, she showed her passport in her married name. The UKBA letter had the correct address but was in her maiden name, in which she showed her maiden passport also.

Even though she showed both passports they refused her, told her to obtain a ukba letter with her married surname and rebook the test.

Sounds like the UK is learning from the Thai immigration. This is exactly the same scenario that frequently happens in Thai immigration. Main difference is that the low level clerks in the UK have no tea money incentive, so they get their kicks from their power to be negative.
