  1. sorry but in thailand u cannot park infront of other peoples businesses without the owners permission. i learnnt the hard way also. they are right. B)

Is it their Road then, do they own it ??

Is that why you can't park in fron of someone's Business ??

i dunno mate. if it is the law or not but when i am with a thai and i park infront of a shop then they tell me that if i park there infront of someones business then it might be a problem. also when i was in phuket an enlgishman that owned the hotel told me that i could park infront f his hotel if there was a space and in his word he said" this is thailand and u cannot park infront of other peoples businesse but there is an empty shop down the road so u can park your car there".

so law or not it seems to be the way of the thailand and thais seemed to respect other thais business in this way because it blocks there bunsiness.

as for the law in dunno but but thais don't really do it to other thais. i am not saying it is right or wrong but i have just exepted it over the years

    The law is pretty easy:

If the curbs are painted black and white - car can park there

If no curbs: Car can park outside of an imaginary line between the two next power poles

The standart attitude is: Me have business I give a sh*t about the law and me will damage your car.

I cannot believe this conversation is going on, have you people not learnt about respect, what good can a persons business have if you park right outside there entrance.

I agree with the thais, if somebodys car is affecting there business, they have the right to do what they do.

Times are hard enough for businesses here, just because farang doesn,t want to walk an extra 20m,he thinks he can park anywhere,no no

  2. wonder why this cruise ships don't organise excursions through local agencies with packages incl p/u from the hotel, inspection, guide, drinks or lunch....while the passengers are on tour on land.

There would be many, tourists and locals, interested, I guess, if proper advertised timely. These tourists, who would make such a cruise ship excursion, could be potential future costumers as well.

they book there day trips with the advisors on the ship, and the tour companies pick them up directly

  3. it was the satistics that got me on this article

between the 30th of Dec - 5 th Jan, on the WHOLE of samui there where only 16 Accidents, resulting in 15 Injuries and 3 deaths ?? .. <deleted> i personally saw this myself !!, and i am only on the road about an hour of the day ! who makes this up.. i would believe more with the figures 350 Acceidents, 220 injuires and 66 deaths ( during the period, i heard an ambulance during the day every 10 mins or so going past my office with the horns blaring )

Yep indeed boaty-man, back to my pet whinge. There are so many accidents now on Samui that a) I don't think anyone (police, hospitals, local Gvt) can truly keep track of them anymore and b)it's a serious embarrassment for the tessaban and c)the 'statistics' that are issued relating to road accidents and deaths are blatant lies, the result of embarrassment and probably panic, too.

My personal opinion is that this little island has one of the highest road-traffic fatality rates in the world - measured as a percentage of the population (which is hard to calculate anyway and varies from month to month). Ten years ago one person a died here on the road every day. And today there are a lot more people here and probably five times the numbers of vehicles. Go figure!

    R

    To expand -

Assume Samui has 10 deaths a month. One of the (several) ways to calculate this comparatively is to take it as a number per million per year. (European calculation method.)

Assume Samui has 500,000 inhabitants. That would make it 20 'per million' for a month and thus 240 deaths per million per year.

(There is no certain figure for the population of Samui: it shifts depending on the number of visitors from one month to the next. Any follow-up posts contending how many people are actually on Samui please modify the death rate accordingly - thus if you reckon Samui has a million people staying here each month, then the figure would be 120 deaths per million per year.)

For Bangkok to compare on the same basis that would infer that Bangkok (20x more inhabitants) would proportionately have a death rate of 4,800 per million per year! (Meaning that this would be the case if a proportionate number of people were to be killed on the roads in BKK.)

Please note this which is a very recent report that Sophia in Bulgaria has the highest fatality rate in the EU at (merely!) 72 people per mil per year.

    http://sofiaecho.com...n-cities-report

And london has a rate of 23 per mil per year.

Back to what I said about Samui having the highest road death rate in the world ... ??

    R

yes you all know how many accidents happen and we all personally know someone on this island that died, in motor bike accident and ,you still go round wearing no helmet.Wise up everybody, those who don,t wear a hat are risking your own lives every time you go out.

You have come to samui for a better life, dont risk it all for not wearing a hat.

It is hard at first but you get used to wearing one,and then you think of it natually.

Also why give these hotels,{sorry i mean hospitals} your hard earned money, when you do have an accident.

  4. Unless it's stated in the contract that they pay for electricity and water I would say it's your responsibility same with the number of people in the house it's for you to control. No good complaining you need to take the good with the bad.

I'm sorry but I certainly do not have to take the good with the bad. Maybe you can rent them a place ?

They have now to find a replacement 5 bedroomed pool villa for the ridiculous price they got this one for at the busiest time of the year.

Another family or two, that probably wont be coming back to samui ever again, probably go home and say farangs ripping us off,

I,m not saying you did, but it was up to you to have the contract written out properly, and when extra people turned up,you should have sorted out that problem, maybe charged more.

2 families conplaining to others about samui, could possibly lead to 10 or twenty families not coming to samui.

well done, just what samui needs

how long have you been in thailand, you should expect these type of problems,

  6. I also have never had a problem with this company. The one thing that did go wrong they fixed it for free. As far as I am aware it is the policy of most companies to simply return the item back to BKK for repair under warranty as that is the place most things here come from.

The other thing that springs to mind is a company that hasn't the capital to replace a printer that is so needed for their business isn't going to last very long. A new printer can be had for a couple of thousand baht and if you get the external ink tanks at the same time runs to just over 3000. ;)

7 years trading, and doing very well, thankyou,

I didn,t say i couldnt afford to get a new one, its an inconvience. i only had it less than 3 weeks

  7. I want to warn all tv readers about a IT company's policy.

They wil sell you anything they have, but if it becomes faulty after 10DAYS, they wont fix it, they say they will send it to bangkok and in my case a canon printer, and said it will take at least a month.

Now i need a printer for my business, and its only 3 weeks old so i cannot let it go for up to a month, so i was told to go and fix it elsewhere and told my guarantee is invalid if i do.

I will never buy another thing in that shop, i will go to an independant retailer in samui, even if it costs a little bit more

  8. I can;t see anyone either buying or wanting to stay here

I have bought my own place here and i love it here.

I have travelled the world and there is some things that can be improved, but there is everywhere.

8 years ago i bought a house and i,m happier now because back then you couldnt even buy a steak knife for your dinner, i brought some over from england, you can get nearly everything here now.

I agree with Roo, those who moan and complain about samui, are those whose business failed or not doing any good

  9. ... Arsenal leading 2 nil in less than half an hour.....not a bad score ;)

    Arsenal vs Spurs

first time on this forum, what a f...... great win beating the foreign lads at the library

  10. Thanks for the advice Wasas.

The last two times I've stayed at Tinadee I've paid THB1200 per night.

When you say to enter the gaming hall you have to prove you have THB20000 on you, do you actually have to buy this amount of chips/gamble this amount as a minimum?

I only play for a bit of fun and I usually limit myself to £100 in UK or A$200 in Melbourne so I'd only actually want to gamble THB5000.

    Cheers

there are 2 casino halls, 1 downstairs where any amount of money can be used, this casino has mostly fruit machines and electronic roulette wheels, and the prices are 40 baht a go

The 2nd casino room is upstairs and this is the big money and smart dress code is in place, if you changed 20000 baht and not used it all i,m sure you can change it back.

Here the roulette tables are i think 200 baht for 1 chip, and 500baht minimum for black jack

  11. Hi folks

I've done this border run a couple of times. Went by car sharing driving time with my missus.

Good break, ususally stay overnight in the Tinadee Hotel in Ranong. However, on my next trip I fancy a flutter but Andaman Club fully booked.

My question is (as there does not appear to be a telephone number on the hotel's website) if I'm not staying at the Andaman Club, as a non guest, would I still be able to play in the gaming room when I do my exit/entry stamp trip to the island?

Advice from anyone who knows the answer to his much appreciated.

    Cheers

The answer to your question is yes, you can gamble if you are not staying at the andaman hotel,i,ve done it a few times.

I am very surprised you said the hotel was full, every time i,ve gone its always been empty.May be theres something on that week.

The tinnadee looks nice i think they wanted 4000 baht last time i went there, i stayed round the corner in sunny guest house very nice and cheap

If you want to play upstairs in the big money gaming hall, you have to wear long trousers and shirt, and you have to prove you have at least 20000 baht on you.

can u wear jeans. also do they have roulette tables

i was told trousers, and the other answer is yes.

The first time i went only had shorts on, they let me in but i had to wear a sarong

  14. Drove with my 4x4 from South Chaweng Beach road via the small road next to 3 Monkeys to Lake Road and further along the small streets behind the airport to Big Buddha 30 minutes ago. It was flooded 20-50 cms almost every 50 meters. Deepest: Near Poppies, end of Lake road, next Chinese graveyard and some other sections between departure driveway and the market Plai Laem.

If it continues to rain like that it will be impassable soon.

    where,s the chinese graveyard? please

I believe that it is on the road from the airport towards Bandon hospital. Come out of departures - turn right. The road zig zags around plots of land and then comes to a T junction. The Chinese graves are on the right before the T . If you turn right - you go around the end of the runway and end up on the new tarmac road towards Bandon.

The road usually floods before the graves coming from the airport terminal.

    thankyou
