Tropicalevo says it's  ones NI number. Never knew that 'til now.

Lloyds Bank asked for my tax residence and TIN.

I messaged HMRC to ask for my TIN.  They replied that they don't use TIN numbers and advised me to use NI number instead.

Have done this but am waiting to hear whether Lloyds will accept it.

I knew another guy on Soi Diana, I think he was from Manchester.

He had a place called ''Escape car and bike rental''. It was opposite LK Metropole. Does anybody know what happened to him?

He built Area 51 and closed the car and bike hire to concentrate on running the go-go.

lol yes just like the Yanks tried to do Faulty Towers. Everything they have tried to copy from UK TV is abysmal and comes with a Cringe factor of 10. Id like to see the Yanks copying Benny Hill or Till Death us do part.

They did copy Till Death Us Do Part - they renamed it Archie Bunker but Archie was but a shadow of Alf.

Does anyone know of a good (reputable) charity organization in Thailand to make a Last Will to?

I would like my money in Bangkok Bank to go to a charity if or when I die, rather than be confiscated by the Thai Govt. I was considering choosing UNICEF, but would rather choose a Thai charity if possible.

    Thanks.

For the last 10+ years I have been involved with a children’s charity in Sangkhla Buri, Kanchanaburi province - www.BaanUnrak.org  They provide a safe and happy environment for approx. 130 children many of whom are stateless as well as homeless.

They make good and efficient use of any funds that you send them.  I visit every couple of years and they are happy to show me what they have done or built with the money that I have sent.

I have a Thai will that bequeaths them my Thailand based assets which will primarily consist of funds in my Bangkok Bank account.  They expressed concern that the bank would make it difficult/impossible for them to get the funds so I have been wondering how to get round this.  I enquired at the bank about making my account a joint account with the manager of the home so that they can legally access the account balance when I die (no comments about the wisdom of this, please).

Seems like I would have to close the account and open a new joint one which would involve me turning up with a certificate of residence and a representative of the home being present with their documents which, with the distance involved, is not really practical.

Does anybody have any ideas on any better way to do this?

I urge anyone with an interest in Thai charities to take a look at this one.  If you can visit them, despite their remote location, you will be impressed.

Is there still someone in pattaya selling pre loaded boxes

'Sun' shop as mentioned above is still there.  Expect to pay around B2,500 for a box pre-loaded with free apps.

If you want a paid for IPTV service, which I would recommend, this will be B1,000 to B3,000 extra for a 1 year subscription.

There is another shop on TukCom 3rd floor named something like 'Omega' who are also good.

  6. In Pattaya, not sure of the Soi name but going north on Soi Bua Khao at the chicane turn right after Witherspoons (the soi that had the extensive drainage work)

The shop is 80 metres on the right.  It took me 2 attempts to find as its hidden during the day by a vendors mosai/sidecar.

Ive recently had cataract surgery at Queen Sirakit excelent ,in out in a morning 35k ,mind you i am a patient there.

That seems incredibly cheap for cataract surgery plus you normally stay one night for observation and a check by the surgeon the next morning.

Sounds more like a Lasik procedure.

My only gripe with Lazada is that even to "window shop" you need app download (in my experience).

You can use the web version of Lazada if you select the Desktop view on your browser.

Not really practical on a phone but OK on a tablet or Android box.

How, when you have to spend 30 minutes post jab to check for side effects? Lurk on, Longtime, or should that be Shorttime?

Same experience for me at Phyathai 2 on 28/7.  Had a 14:00 appointment, walked in to the hospital at 12:00 and walked out, jabbed with AZ, at 28 minutes past.

    Pretty impressive.

These last two months I have had some fillings and minor repairs done at Central Festival 4th floor (Dentist@Beach). I was impressed at the professionalism. I have another appointment next week. It is too early to tell whether the treatment will stand the test of time but it made a good enough impression on me to want to have things done in Thailand rather than have it done in Europe whereto I fly back end of this month. Price may not be the cheapest you can get in Thailand but it is not an issue as I have a decent insurance. They have several dentists (whom they call "doctors"). Here's the signature of the one I went to, I can't make out her name:

I have been going to Dr. Cherry at Dentist@Beach for 8-9 years.

As you say, not the cheapest, but excellent work.

Hospitals give me the creeps. In fact there was a hospital in Romford named 'Oldchurch'. Generally known as the 'place of no return'. Spent ten weeks in there as a kid (one of the lucky ones to get out), before being sent to Dartmoor for the summer to recover.

Another matching experience from our childhoods, Owl.

I was 6 weeks in Oldchurch, spent my 7th birthday in there.  Not a fun place even for a hospital.

I wouldn't call the estate that you refer to as Romford. Maybe it was back then though. If I can recall, the prefab roads were named after flowers.

Harold Hill was/is part of Romford with a postal address Harold Hill, Romford, Essex.

Yes, the roads were named after flowers - we lived in Clematis Road.

Pettits Lane eh! Round the back of Rafaels Park*. I was not far away in Dagenham Dock.

Romford people were posh to us.

I can remember cattle being sold at Romford Market. Is that market still going I wonder?

I wouldn't call the Harold Hill, Romford prefab council estate 'posh' but we didn't know any better and it was fine for us. I had a good up-bringing there from the age of 5 to 24.

The cattle market disappeared many years ago, probably in the 60s.

is this still the way? and ok for the wife? its only regarding my Thai bank account ,as or British ones are joint and she owns the house, car etc etc.

    Bert,

I wish I could have seen your post and the quote from Langsuan earlier.

Wednesday last week, I took my will in English and Thai to the Banglamung Amphur to get it registered.  I took a Thai lady with me to help and translate.

The guy on the Amphur reception was completely scornful, telling her that I would need to get all sorts of paperwork including going to Bangkok to get a letter from the UK embassy and I should instead go to a lawyer.  The Thai lady accepted everything he said and I wasn't in a position to argue.

We then went to the Thai lady's lawyer who charged me B2,000 to stamp and sign the will.  The lawyer wanted to keep the will and act as executor.  I share Langsuan's scepticism and didn't want to do this so have retained the will.

I should still like to get the will registered to make procedures as smooth as possible for my Thai executor so maybe I will print out Langsuan's post, in English and Thai, and return to the Amphur.  But, before I do that, any updated advice would be welcome from TV members.

  15. Downloaded HBO GO app from Google Play store onto my Android box.

I have not subscribed to the 3BB HBO GO service but the app plays the demo trailers to my TV OK but ONLY on WiFi, not Ethernet.

  16. Changed from my 3BB 600/400 plan to their 1000/100 offer.

I'm now getting around 950 down, 105 up with a 5ms ping domestically which is all fine.

However, testing to London I'm getting 50-150 down and around 50 up, which again is fine.  But the ping to London has gone from around 200ms to 450ms.  Is this your experience on international tests?

No point in flogging a dead horse get yourself either the Mecool M8S Max with the cooling fan or the Beelink Gt. King and you will have peace of minds for several years to come...

Can't comment on the M8S Max but would not recommend the Beelink GT-King.

You are buying a box with 64 bit hardware but the firmware is a terrible 32 bit rooted version of Android 9 lacking a number of standard Android features.  Beelink have fixed some of the issues via OTA updates but the box will never have a full Android 9 firmware.
