  1. Have u got your left and rights mixed up.

    Hi Maverick,

I don't think so, I have "L" on this hand, and "R" on the other.

Maybe the 14 vodkas got me a little confused last time I was down that way. :o

    Udon

Sorry yr 'right' - down there last night and noticed the buildling works on the left u are correct - loads of investment on both sides of the road in fact and they must be a wee bit concerned about their business plans now. I guess they can always open up selling soft drinks and no music. The fun City becomes glum city.

  2. I think I'd be very pissed off if I'd signed a long lease for one of the new bars opening soon on the LHS of soi 33, (opp. the Office Bar side soi) :o

    Udon

I cant see any new bars on the left (as you go up from Sukhumvit end) with The Office on the right. I do however see a lot of building work on The Office side and some new bars up the side soi's on the right. Have u got your left and rights mixed up. If not I will look out for them.

  3. Take a closer look at this gift from cabinet. Less tourists will be welcome for ex-pats living here. The farangs left will be appreciated that much more.Prices on everything will go down. Economy should take a bit of a dive and all should be happy. Bring on the 50 to 1, 97 baht. Remember we are only guests here and what they do with there country is there business. Other countries in the region could use the tourist $$ that Thailand doesn't want. These beer drinking sex tourists only push up prices. Don't worry about the supply, some of those cute waitresses put out of work in the bar will be forced to look for other well paying jobs. Beer prices might even go down with demand. I'll drink to that!

Ajanlu has a good point - there is always an upside and the smart people will take any advantages this decision brings. Less tourists (as the news filters back) equals more space in bars/clubs, less competition and perhaps cheaper prices. Good time to pick up a bar as well if your looking with prices deflating over next year months as the curbs take effect. I think - get used to it as they wont repeal this any time soon and go with the flow (or go and live/party in Singapore with bars open till 4am plus plus). Or Vietnam etc etc.

  4. Thanks to all for responses I will look into ABC which might be the answer short term. The suggestion re Singapore is probably a no-goer as the television there is very poor from what I have seen so far. I will post the details here.

  5. I am tired of UBC - not a great sports fan so it's mostly a diet of action movies, 70's films, CNN and the like or Animal/Discovery programmes. When staying at The Shangri La hotel recently noted they had a different cable offering (ABC?) and seemed to have some really interesting programmes (the UK's Frost detective series was on one channel) - anyone know more about this?

  6. Currently I use a locked bag address in Australia who then post once a month or more often as requested (this then allows me to redirect anywhere in the world). This seems to work well as I get one large packet which has arrived 100% so far. However this year I will travel less and I am going to rent a private PO Box in Bangkok which i realise does still come via thai post but i feel is safer as a) it cuts out the last walking postman and :o avoids lying in my condo pigeon hole/loss by security.

  7. Roger;

an interesting point, so if the car is in my wife's name then that is ok I assume.

Looks like I should have a trip to get a new Thai Lisence.

Does anyone have a suggestion on insurance and how all that works, my wife has taken care of it, and now I read this thread, I am a little less comfortable now.

At the time I was on a tourist visa and using a UK driving license. As Dr Pong states they wouldnt give me a thai drivers license on a tourist visa so...........got the insurance company to confirm in writing that a UK license was acceptable under the policy.

  8. Hi..

I'm a new member here... I LOVE the variety, wit and sheer information that I find here.

    Oh, and btw, I'm gay.

There are several Web Sites that "specialize" in Thailand/Gay issues.. but they don't have the vibrancy of discussion that I find here.

Are there any other members here also playing on my team..? (I know some people may not waish to be "identified" in such a manner... but I hope some will be comfortable enough to do so....) :-)

I DO believe that we have MANY of the same issues to deal with.. cultural, expectations, etc etc...

I sincerely hope that this site can be accepting of all lifestyles..

    Cheers

    Chris

    Chris

Its good to see you here and I hope u gets some positive responses however from what I have seen so far I doubt it. Most of the contributors I have encountered tend to be redneck smart-<deleted> spinning cute one liners (or so they think) or lengthy diatribes espousing their own deep rooted prejudices. Whilst some posts are obvious 'wind ups' my guess is the authors real views are not not far away. Other gay members? - a passing resemblance to Oscar Wilde is here somewhere.

Good luck, you will need it.

  9. Dove - as u bring up the nick-name relevance I suggest Ostrich or is it the Emu that puts its head in the sand?

Many couples have regretted not agreeing pre-nups and lawyers the world over have smiled and rubbed their hands when seeing the mess people get themselves in.

    Get real.

  10. Hi

I am an owner of a condo in Pattaya and I believe our aggregate unit space is shared 80% Foreigners and 20% Thai. In Pattaya is a special Condominium Act in place, which says

“The new Act allows that aliens or alien juristic persons (majority foreign-owned companies) can own up to 100% of the aggregate unit space registered in a condominium up to 27th April 2004.

What will be the impact for Foreigners and Thais after 27th April 2004, can I still sale my Condo to a foreigner our do I have to wait until a Thai consider the purchase?

Seemingly this law has been changed THIS WEEK and not waiting until April as is commonly understood. I understand it does not impact current owners with full title deeds however does impact anyone buying a condo in the future. You should check the exact position with your lawyer pronto if your thinking about selling as the inference is that they may need to set up a company to own the condo. The xample I heard today was concerning a new condo building which has not yet issued out the title deeds and they have about 90% foreign owners, and a large proportion of them look like having to go down the company owned route or putting in their Thai partners name.

No where else have I heard that the potential visa changes in April 2004 affect condo ownership transfer at all - Digger where do you get yr information from (this site certainly does not contain any reference to these supposed changes under buying condos). Please provide evidence of yr sources.

  11. Thai dog fights off 'serial' rapist

    February 03 2004 at 08:18AM

      :o

Bangkok - A Thai man was suffering from multiple cuts and a bruised ego on Tuesday after he got drunk and attempted to rape a dog, which fiercely resisted his advances, news reports said on Tuesday.

Well there you go Ned Kelly (aka Oscar Wilde)................have a few beavies, get the old coozer out and do the bad thing. Problem solved.

  12. I just wondered after seeing a jokey reference in another thread - do punters really use two johnnies and whats it like? Do they pre-prepare ie double them up in advance to save embarrassment. Why dont the manufacturers make a 'double whammy' anyway?

  13. I know that this works, and very quickly, as I've had the pleasure of seeing it in action.

This quote sums it up nicely. Other pleasures you might like to take up (or get a video in and watch with a pizza) - bull fighting, fox hunting or commercial dog fighting.

  14. Does this farce still prevail (a dowry)? I never hear anyone discussing it in my circle and it never crossed my mind when marrying my thai wife - still no doubt as she was one of those 'specimens' as Erco so quaintly puts it (one previous child) she would have been seriously discounted (but as no ex bar girl not the maximum discount - shame). And displaying gold/jewels that get returned afterwards - oh behave!

Oh and Erco - u sure your not a closet 'man o the night'?

  15. When I saw the business plan - Kiwi and Thai wife want to open a bar in Pattaya I immediatley thought this must be a wind up but the more I think about it.......... if kiwi is mad enough to want to go into that business now could be a good time - with the negative PR re closing times and Pattaya suffering as a destination as so many alternatives i would imagine quite a few owners want to sell so the prices will be lower. Having personally invested (not run myself) and lost money on a Pub :o I can say it's a scarey business and destroys many people due to the unrelenting pressure of opening almost every day of the year and the myriad problems that are encountered. But Kiwi's are hard workers and if he stays healthy and gets a cheap deal good luck to him.

    Cheers! :D

  16. The Gent

Sounds like yr speaking from personal experience - yr 100 million property sounds impressive!

I looked at Phuket a year ago and had some experience of the real estate cowboys down there offering me hillside plots with promises that the title would be chanote 'soon'. Just after that the title problems appeared in the press. Driving around at certain times of day showed the infrastructure problems and I can get that here in Bangkok. I couldnt compete with the outside money which had inflated the property prices (as I wanted beach front situation). Gave it up and started looking elsewhere (and still am). Also looked further up (across the bridge cant recall the name about half hour/hours drive with some beachfront but lots of nearby prawn farms polluting the sea.

  17. It had ocurred to me that the only option might be to import the stuff myself. However i know squat about importing commercially. If u bring some back pal78 I will pay you 20% on top of any price u paid. I live in Bangkok. :o
