  1. I am looking to bring my laos g/f to Ireland to stay with me there permanently.

She is pregnant now 3 1/2 months and at the moment I'm trying to work out what the best option is for me in this situation? We've been together for a number of years but we don't really have a great amount of evidence to prove that..unless call logs from skype/emails between us, the local village boss would probably testify that we have been together for that amount of time because he is our next door neighbour.

What would my best option be here?

  2. If you don't have pain in your jaw, don't do anything! I have had TMJ most my life as long as I can remember (40+ years). I have spoke to numerous doctors, dentists, etc. and I can tell you that TMJ has no cure. Don't ever have an operation unless it is the absolute last resort. Most operations are not successful and the patient eventually can experience more pain the rest of their life. Dentists are your best hope. People have had greater success by changing their bite (a.k.a, braces). I have good days and bad days. I just watch how I chew my food, be careful how I sleep at night, and try not to play with my jaw and teeth. Good luck to you and please avoid any operations as long as possible.

Hey kyb, thanks for the info. However, I haven't been recommended surgery by my dentist, just to have 2 metal (i think steel) inserts placed inside my mouth for 2 months or so, followed by insertion of 5 crowns and three bridges(over teeth that have been removed). But she is saying that I need to get the TMD treated right away, and before the crowns/bridges are done. She says it leads to a host of other physical and psychological conditions, including depression, etc.

And in fact there IS pain as I mentioned above, when the inside of my jaw where the skull(temperal) meets the jawbone(mandible) is pressed solidly, there is quite considerable pain indeed! Although I don't feel it in my day-to-day life, it was only when she put here finger inside that I felt it, (so to speak).

  3. Im sorry to hear that. What did the doctor who gave you that work say about it? There is a great TMJ specialist in BNH hospital,dam_n i dont remember her name. She is one of the best hand who can handle problems regarding occlusion in Thailand. Check those doctors photo in front of the BNH dental clinic. She is the one with American Board in TMJ.

If I don't have any pain in my jaw, I'm just wondering if there's anything to worry about...what does BNH stand for? How do you know she's so good??

  4. You have my full sympathy, the same exact thing happened to me some years back courtesy of a dentist at a major hospital (in the course of a root canal I'm not convinced was even necessary....)

Like you, I had no luck in terms of dentist understanding of the problem. the dentists who performed the procedure that set it off didn't even identify what the problem was.

You coukld try the Dentakl Hosopital on Sukhumbit Soi 49, they are IMO the best in the business here in LOS and have a wide range of specialists. but quite frankly, most TMJ responds well to conservative measures which you can do on your own, and that is what I would do at least initially (and what I myself did).

    This means:

    • avoiding movements that aggravate it (no opening jaw too wide, chewing gum and the like)
    • hot compresses along the jaw line and area of pain (cold applications initially if the trauma that caused it is fresh)
    • anti-inflammatory drugs if not otherwise contraindicated*: NSAIDs, aspirin
    • gentle exercises, see http://www.ehow.com/...-exercises.html or google for instructions. With exercises, let your body guide you, i.e. don't do anything that causes severe pain or that makes you feel worse afterwards.

The above plus time resolves the problem for the vast majority of people. No harm in trying acupuncture too and it may give some relief.

Another thing that is helpful if you don't have one already is a night guard to prevent jaw clenching/tooth grinding at night, any dental clinic can make one for you. In the West you can buy them in drugstores although of course the fit is not as good as custom made. I haven't seen these in Thailand, but you could look. The trays sold with home whitening kits will do the job too, idea is just something to keep your teeth from coming completely together.

If all that fails your best course would be to see a pain specialist, but usually these measures alone will suffice.

    good luck

http://www.emedicine...me/page6_em.htm is a good overview of this problem andtreatment options

*contraindications = taking anticoagulant meds, history of bleeding disorder or ulcer. Always take with food to minimize gastric upset.

    That seems like good advice.

My dentist told me I was 'in the late stages' of TMD and that I need to get it treated urgently. According to her, TMD leads to a host of other problems, including pains. However I don't seem to be exhibiting any of the symptoms as outlined on the various websites addressing the issue, although she insisted that I am in the late stages, on two separate visits.

There is considerable pain when a finger is placed hard on the inside up against the jawbone, and I've had brief pain in the past, although nothing that stopped me from eating or doing something about it.

What is it likely to cost to have in treated in bangkok? She said that some kind of a metal insert is placed inside my mouth on both upper sides for 2 months. She also said that most people feel amazing after they've had the treatment, because of the effect it has on people's health. Don't know how true it all was, just wondering what others may have heard from their dentists.

  5. 1. There is currently is no limit on the number of times you can enter on "visa exempt" entries if you are from a country that qualifies. You get 30 days by air and 15 days by land. 2. The cost of tourist a visas is determined by the number of entries you are allowed. The cost varies slightly from country to country due to exchange rate fluctuations. The current cost per entry in the US is $40.00. To find the exact cost, the maximum number of entries allowed and the length of the visa you should look on the website for the Thai Embassy in your country.

The information here http://www.thaivisa.com/274.0.html is obviously wrong and needs to be updated by the webmaster.

And this site is called Thaivisa.com, what a shocker.

  6. qe3 looks like its on the way in the new year, will probably add some upward stimulus for a few months, but less than before I think. The more and more money is printed, the less effect it has. Look throwing whitewash at a white wall.:D

Get into physical gold and silver is my advice, and get out of everything paper, within the next year or so, because eventually it's all coming to a crashing halt.

  7. Is there another letter to that code? usually there are 3/4 letters?

I've used SDS (2x short) and SPXU (3x short) both by Proshares.

When S&P was trading in the range 1100's - 1215 it was quite nice to put on as a hedge every time S&P came near 1215. Got caught with SPXU though when S&P broke above 1215 and held for a few weeks, so closed it out - only individual trade I lost money on in October. Now looks like we're back down into the 1100's to 1215 range again.

Can't say I attach a high probability to S&P 666 in the near term.

    No, just SH.

The good thing about SH is its 1X daily movement, you could get caught-out with the 2X/3X things. I'm wondering if there are any options that could be used to short the index?

Check here for a good analysis of why the s&P is definitely a short My link I'm working off similar variables. I believe the reason markets haven't fallen further may be due to manipulation, and short-selling bans.

  8. 1.the floods did not really impact this route. And if-well, maybe some brainwave thinking?-buses are far better suited to use other roads as trains are. Reroute-and indeed, this has happened on this route weeks ago.

2.the bus nr does not matter and no panick for this-it may even be a bus with another nr on it! It only runs 1/day, 21.00 from BUSterminal and after-as all buses STARTING at swampy do-pick up at lowest floor on AIRterminal, where there is a ticketbooth. NO-no onlinebooking-just come and see-never full (the utmost fear of panickers)/ Makes stops at all major towns in between- like Khorat, KhKhaen -Udorn. A bright yellow bus from the BoKoSo with 1st cl. standard

3.besides the very few routes starting Swampy there are also many more routes-all coming from Mochit via motorway-that serve Swampy PASSING when bookings are made-these only stop at BUSterminal-yes, there is of course also a ticketwindow there. These routes all go to the east.

4.DIRECT buses starting Swampy only go to NgKhai-as above, Aran (2/day)=Khmer border, Pattaya and KohChang. Thus the area of Thaild served directly is quite limited-not central, west nor south.

5.in the forumpart about Swampy I have posted a few monthes ago a detailed overview of all these routes-even though there were the usual TV-wisenosers claiming to know better.

Thanks to asanee for that very detailed reply, you are saying here that the bus to Nong Khai stops in the BUSterminal and also the AIRterminal?

  9. The only place in my portfolio for precious metals is as a long term investment due to my belief that we will look back in a few years time and say to ourselves "my god can you believe that gold was once selling for only $1700 and silver was selling at $31?"

    dam_n right.

For anybody outside the US, how about short the S&P500 using SH, the ProShares Short S&P500 (ETF). With this, you capture the appreciating USD, plus the declining S&P. This latest leg of the crisis is playing out quite similar to 2008. Then, the dollar also appreciated to about 1.25/euro, in tandem with S&P fall to 666.

  10. There is no issue over whether silver bullion carries a VAT tax in Thailand. It does. Full stop.

The only thing anyone has ever had disagreements over on this forum is:

    1) Does importing silver coins with a face value into Thailand carry VAT?

    2) Are you allowed to import gold without a permit from the Ministry of Finance?

All the customs officials I've ever spoken with say that the form of silver is irrelevant. There is no country in the world that uses silver coins as a regular currency, there is no exchange booth that will accept coins for Baht in Thailand, and therefore silver is silver and everything is subject to VAT. Some say they think differently, but I can guarantee you that if a customs official says you must pay VAT, you must pay VAT. Trying to use the argument of "its a coin" will get you nowhere.

So yes, all silver is taxed with VAT. Full stop. You might get lucky importing some kinds through the airport in some circumstances, but don't count on it.

Greg i've read your post and it sounds like you know what you're talking about, but one thing I fail to understand is:

How can Austrian Silver Philharmonics and American Silver Eagles, which are both legal tender in these respective countries (and I think the austrian philharmonic is legal tender throughout the entire eurozone), be chargeable to VAT/Sales tax by the thai authorities?

  11. why or why is the best thing you can come up with being "buy property" and create conditions where the working folk of Burma are thus exploited by parasitic buy to let landlords as opposed to being oppressed by vile dictators

foreigners cannot invest in Burma. neither in property nor in shares nor in anything... officially not even in a Burmese wife. Jim Rogers was misquoted because he said "if i could i'd invest in Myanmar".

case closed, next wet investment dream please :jap:

Reckon it may be opening up soon though, wider than any pattaya whore's f#### too~!

keep on reckoning but don't hold your breath. what you still need to explain is the relevance of Vientiane property prices to those in Yangon and secondly why you mentioned Vientiane where foreigners are not allowed to buy immobile property.

    I'm not the persuasive type.

  13. Land of opportunity...

    And it's not america.

    Absolutely.

Any idea of what constraints there are on foreigners investing in burma atm?

I saw something yesterday I think that china is opening up to foreign investment soon (presumably because they need a way to maintain economic momentum, things are apparently slowing in china at present also, if you read some reports)

  14. ya you should buy some real estate in yangon, laos real estate prices in downtown vientiane have tripled in past 10 years, amid global turmoil too. Something I'd look into right now if I had the $

The global turmoil as you call it is more a Euro/America turmoil, caused by banks lending money they havent got to people who bought over priced property with money they could never pay back once the ponzi scheme reached its peak, aswell as govts. creating non jobs in the govt/public sector with lottery winning esq remuneration and pension schemes and borrowing money they can also never pay back without inflating it away as theyre trying to do.

But with all the natural minerals Burma has, and the potential to become the new mass tourist destination in SEA aswell as masses of cheap labour to create jobs for, why or why is the best thing you can come up with being "buy property" and create conditions where the working folk of Burma are thus exploited by parasitic buy to let landlords as opposed to being oppressed by vile dictators.

Until westerners can pull their brains out their ass and stop thinking buying property is the worlds best investment we dont stand a chance.

So if your head is not up your ass then tell us what your way of investing would be?
