  1. Canon 40d (perfect conditions) it comes with full original package and accessories + I include viewfinder extension from canon (for those with big nose like me :) ) and a 2gb compact flash. 20000 thb

Canon EF-S 17-85 IS in perfect conditions. 15000 thb

If interested in both we can discuss some discount.

  2. three suggestions: 1) get a monopod or 2) buy a backpack for camera, is not painful as a side purse, and you can use it on your front to steady your camera in low light, or 3) assuming you use a SLR or DSLR (or any big body camera) use two hands on the side of the camera (left hand over right hand) pushing the other side of the camera against your left shoulder and you get no shake.

  3. I agree with who says that the cool tone is too dominant, warming up some tones would help. Also I feel the shadows a little too dark, what I feel is that there is not enough contrast between the bright areas and the dark area to justify those almost black areas (a more stylized high contrast photo would justify that). Polarizer I think give a nice saturation and intensity. Are you using any filters as UV or skylight?

  4. I have a polarizer always on, circular one but, for what I remember with my old Nikon film camera, the effects where much more enhanced than with my digital slr: darker skies and more deep colours. Why?

I need a 4/5,000 baht filter? My Hoya is not enough?

I saw circular polarizers especially created for digital cameras (not sure if there is difference on performance) because they say that sensor are differently sensible to those kind of incident lights, but they are more expensive. Personally I use a traditional one (for film) with great performances on digital.

  5. on my 40d there is a cleaning technology similar to other canon cameras, unfortunately it removes only the smallest dots, the big ones need to be manually cleaned. Fortunately the canon service at mbk is fast and convenient 300 and something baht and in 1 hour is cleaned.

  6. for me the dual pricing is non-sense, I can understand for tourists (even if this promote tourism towards other countries), but not being a tourist, having a working visa, and paying taxes (my incomes maybe are higher than many thais, but not higher than many other thais) I feel this not reasonable (for my way of thinking of course).

Having a thai surname makes you a thai, so nothing change. "People who don't like this they can go home" (a bit tired to hear this though) maybe can be a good solution to make things changing.

  7. The way to look at it is not that us Farang pay more, but that Thai companies understand that generally Thais have less money, so the Thai prices are discounted.

They just should present it differently ie everybody pays "X" baht, but if you are Thai we will discount or rebate you "Y" baht. The way they do it with the two tiered price structure that makes us think we are paying more and loses them business for sure.

The only thing I concern myself with is whether the price I have to pay is reasonable to me.

I agree, if is reasonable is good, but what I don't think is reasonable (maybe because of my western way of thinking) why the 2 different prices? If should be related to incomes maybe I would pay less than many thais i know.

  8. well I manage to flight with another company (japanese), cheaper than the "thai special discounted price" and same mileage accumulation. But I ask myself what if my friend would like to buy me a ticket, let's say as a "gift"? Will he pay special or normal price?

The problem with these things is that are random, once I went to a national park, they asked me to pay like 10 times more than a thai, so I said I work here and show them some document and allowed me to pay normal price, another time happened the same but they pointed the finger on me saying I am not thai and they charged me the high price for me and my friend (she is thai but she didn't talk maybe), so I noticed that she is not farang and she have to pay normal price.

  9. is it normal that an agency sells thai airways tickets (at very special prices) only to thai people? as I am foreigner (farang) I can't buy it because I was told from them that those prices are only for thais.

    do tell more!

I am planning a trip to tokyo, my collegue (thai) he bought already a ticket (the period of travelling is different but the offer is still available throught the same agency), so I ask him about the price he paid and being quite convenient compared to thai air website, I tried to book through the same agency. Being their website all in thai language, he called them for me, and when they knew i am not thai they replied that I can't buy the ticket. It is quite sad considering that I pay taxes in this country (quite big amounts).

Aeon, I shot for years and never really tapped into the potential of what the camera could do.

Now I get natural light shots I always used to miss. Instead talking about the ones that

got away I come home with some clean shots in low light and now with many of the

cameras having ajustable ISO nobody should wait. Its nice when you dont use the flash.

You can just blend into the environment and get some good candid shots. I think my next

    thread will be Thai Candid......

Newer camera also allow you to use quite high ISO speed without too much noise, if you keep under 1000 should be a good quality photo, where the noise is acceptable.

I am quite happy with results up to 640 ISO on a Canon 40d, over that can be risky with vibrant colors, but if not processed the quality is still good even with higher vaules.

  11. Yes I know I was joking.

I understand the reason of your topic, and I agree with what you say, I always use my camera in manual mode.

by the way I was at that cosplay event too http://www.flickr.com/photos/salvus/sets/72157621994057213/

Aeon I checked out your pics and cosplay #25 was my favorite.

Its fun to do the Bangkok circuit......I got a couple hundred

photos from this event...doing a thread every now and then

is good for me. I stop working on the house and sit down

and play with the photos a bit.....a nice escape......

yes I took many hundreds of photos too, they had really nice costumes and make-ups (check cosplay#5).

The ISO thread is very interesting, and is something that not everyone play with, normally auto is the easy way to go, but personally I like to control manually for both technical and creative control.

Vulcan my intent on this thread was just to get people who have never

played with the ISO to give it a try so I have purposely stayed away

from being technical about the subject or my camera. Aeon I did go outside

for a bit and now another ISO tip dont forget to lower the ISO when

you go outside. I used 100 ISO for this shot.
