  1. I drive that stretch frequently and I have noticed that an unintended result of putting the tires and orange donkey dicks through that series of bends is that cars and trucks now push over the line into the left lane a little more than before. The left lane is already narrow and in horrible condition. At the section where the woman went over the side the land is starting to creep/slip underneath the roadway and cement trucks that haven't cleaned their chutes properly drop concrete all along the road there making it very difficult to impossible to navigate on a motorbike. Add to that most cars, trucks, and bus drivers pay no notice to a motorbike in the lane next to them, they just push over and make the bike move out of it's way, and you have accidents like this. And I don't believe there is any law requiring people to remain at accident scenes in Thailand so no surprise he did a runner.

  2. You don't need to be Einstein to understand the causes of the massive accident and death rate on the roads in Phuket or anywhere else in Thailand. It's extremely simple. No driver training is required to get a car or motorbike license (for those that actually bother getting licenses) and there is zero enforcement of traffic laws. Phuket roads being steep and twisty in places demand some skill and just add to the carnage.

  3. ^ best memory from 2009 was during one of the many downpours play was abandoned, and the only decent shelter was in the markets across the road; tall women in bikinis go clothes shopping!

I was going to ask about that. It's pissing down now, and the bronze match is scheduled in 15 minutes.

It's not that bad. Only some light drizzle here in Kata. Not enough to stop play.

Amazing how localized it can be. Been raining all morning in Chalong/Rawaii. Last couple hours a deluge, flooding. I think a bolt of lightning just about hit my house. Lightening up quite a bit now. Will head to Karon and see whats happening. Mainly want to catch the gold medal match USA vs China.

  4. is there an expiration date for Sun Screen ?

I do not see any dates on the bottles ,

I got some 100 SPF sunscreen theother day here in California,

one thing to note 100 SPF is not 2x as go as 50 SPF , I am sure its a liitle better but its not a normal ratio to compare the SPF

    BK

How did you buy 100SPF in the states. They changed the laws a few years ago. Now they can't say over 50.

In a very unscientific test, I put the Watsons 50 PA+++ on half my face and arms, and Nivia Whitening 50+ DNA protect on the other and spent a day in the sun. Seemed to be no difference in protection that I could tell. (I know tanning only tells half the story)

  5. In gang culture the teardrop under the eye (usually left eye) can mean they killed someone, but it also can mean they spent time in prison. (like the spider web on the elbow) It can also mean they lost a loved one or one of their homeys, or if on a woman, that her husband is in prison.

No idea about the tattoo behind tg's ear

  6. World War 2 ended over 65 years ago. A great tragedy.

My father's and mother's family lost men during the conflict. Until the day they died there was an underlying hatred of German people in my family - some would say with reason.

Do I wish to continue this tradition - no. Hate begets Hate.

If you lost family to the Mongol invasion, would you carry a grudge ???

    Move on.

No grudge here. I'm just curious. Actually my ancestry is mostly German. Now I have Jewish inlaws. But none of that makes any difference. My question as to why people that aren't neo-Nazi's or white supremacists would wear these is valid and while some interesting possibilities have been presented, still unanswered. I would think most people would wonder the same thing.

  7. My question is do these guys just think it's cute, just "having a laugh" or do they actually believe they belong to a superior race? :whistling:

Quickest way to get the truth is go ask them that question yourself.

I would but they are always riding when I see them. And if I am able to I will post the response here.

  8. One sounds like "too late" and is uttered when I burp or fart or do something similar. The other is "monsai" as in "I monsai you." Usually in the context of the speaker wanted to jokingly strangle me or hit me. I kinda get the jist with the context, but don't really know what these words mean.

    Thanks.

  9. I've always thought there was a link between some well known bike gangs and the white supremacy movement. Not sure how tenuous the link is but I'm guessing this is behind the helmets.

No doubt there are connections, and strong ones. That would definitely explain it.

But I don't think that is the case with these guys. One guy I saw with the Nazi coat of arms lives in Kata. I have seen him around a few times. He appears to be a friend of a friend of a friend. He rides a Honda Click.. I am pretty sure he does not have ties to white supremacist motorcycle gangs, but I guess it's possible. If I knew his name I would ask my friend, but I don't. Another guy I saw in Patong was on a 200cc Phantom. No colors flying or club patches, just the helmet with swastika.

My question is do these guys just think it's cute, just "having a laugh" or do they actually believe they belong to a superior race? :whistling:

  10. The tourist maps by Thai Airways are pretty good. Free in just about any shop that has anything to do with tourism.

As for the map drawing, I don't think there are any good maps out there in Thai. At least not that I have seen. And anyone in the delivery business surely cannot read English, and some cannot read Thai.

  11. "In many cases victims died because of senseless action," Porntep said.

Yes, the senseless actions of irresponsible builders and untrained "electricians." If done correctly, a body of water or a person stepping into it cannot be electrified from a household source. This so commonly reported in the news here that it has given me a neurosis. I am now in the habit of avoiding stepping in puddles and testing swimming pools and bath tubs before I get in.

  12. Yeah they are the primary distributors for the islands mom and pop pharmacies, thus have the best margin to play with. Glad to see they aren't price gouging due to shortages.

The other distributor in Phuket is Santi Healthcare on Phangna Rd opposite the bus station.

  13. Does it really matter? You have one opinion and others have their own.

Pardon me for seeking to understand others opinions which seem inexplicable to me. The Holocaust is not an "opinion". (Unless you are Ahmadinejad) To me they are saying the genocide, if applied properly, is a good thing. I don't know, perhaps the fact that I have relatives with numbers stamped on their arms has clouded my judgment. My apologies.

So you are defending their actions. Tell me, do you wear Nazi paraphernalia? If so, why?

Not my cup of tea for sure, but freedom of speech and freedom of expression has to apply across the board.

I completely agree. I don't wish to censor it, I wish to understand it. I have to wonder what motivates them. (them being presumably knowledgeable and at least semi-educated farangs) If they are actual Neo-Nazi's/white supremacists that have been filled with hate since they were old enough to understand anything, then I understand and can accept that. Anyone can be convinced of anything and ignorance and intolerance is the answer. Plenty of those back in the states and elsewhere. It's their right. (Well, unless they are in one of the many countries in which it is illegal) If it's something else...shock value, attention seeking...then that is harder to understand.

  14. Don't do it. It's a necessary evil. I switched to the Ermax color matched undertail and every time I rode on a wet surface, I'd end up looking like a skunk, my back and the pillion seat would get covered in muddy water. Even tried bending the plate out as far as I could get it. The gf only rode pillion once like that, never again. Stock tail went back on after a week.

Couldn't you do an extra rear hugger somewhere on the outside? Halfway up on the back. That would prevent the tire from splashing water all over your back... I've seen that on some bikes.

Could I guess...but it would have to be 3 or 4 times longer than the stock one. Stock doesn't come close to preventing spray.
