Because of the dangerous roads here after 10 years we are seriously thinking of returning to the uk,we do not feel safe driving at all,every day we go out there is always a near miss with a bike or minivan coming at you on the wrong side of the road!i have lived in Phuket before and it is nothing like as dangerous as it is here,there is just no police anywhere!will I miss samui?NO!

Well move to Phuket then if you are so terrified !

Thanks for the comments,I've been in business for 10years here and have seen the last 2 years drop off a hell of a lot,I'm not doing anything different from before but just not getting the customers as much

Also been in business for 10 years, last two years has been the best because I did do something different.

I am doing something different that no one else in Samui does and 6 years have been good but as I said the last 2 not!you seem to be one of the very lucky ones:)

Looks like I'm not alone then,many people feeling it too!

With the exception of about 3-4 weeks around Christmas last year, I've seen it mostly dead everywhere. All the malls, stores, restaurants seem to be at about 20-30% capacity, and anybody in real estate is having a near impossible time renting or selling houses for anything near what they've done to expect in years past. It looks pretty desolate out there.

Thanks for the comments,I've been in business for 10years here and have seen the last 2 years drop off a hell of a lot,I'm not doing anything different from before but just not getting the customers as much,don't really want to leave Samui,but maybe Phuket would have more people!Also as someone said the short term rental business has gone down by about 50% which I can confirm!I can only put it down to bombs in Samui and Bkk and koh Toa murders and government!

Anyone else felt that this year has been the worst in 10 years for any sort of business?I myself will be out of business very soon if nothing happens!people just don't seem to be coming and if they are its Chinese and they stay in higher end resorts and don't spend much money in restaurants etc.Anyone else feeling it:(

It's not the roads it's the drivers!ive lived in Phuket and the driving standards are so much better than Samui!the attitude in Samui is I don't care about anyone else and I can do whatever I like!

Samui roads are very very dangerous and after 10 years of living here thinking its time to leave for my own safety!and riding a bicycle on the roads should be taken with a lot of care,the once paradise island has become a dangerous place to live!

Would not put another baht into Samui,days are numbered!

Let's hope they do something with those stupid drains,so you can use all the road and not just half of it and take the risk of going down one!

Now the electric company are putting new poles everywhere they have been cutting the Internet cables nearly every day,and I mean cutting and leaving them hanging there,this has happened 8 times in about 3 weeks,and takes two days to connect them back up,hasn't anyone got the sense to maybe ask the Internet company's to go along with them during the day to move them when they need to be moved!cat telecom seem to be getting very hacked off with the electric company AND ME!cat telecom said the other day there were about twenty cut in one day in chaweng area!MUPPETS.

Right ok I've been told now that I can renew my wp only 1 month before its due to expire which means that I will be in the uk while they are doing this so I cant apply for the 1 year visa until I get the new stamp in my wp for 1 year!so now my question is do i need to show the original wp to the embassy or a copy of the wp with the new stamp in it,which can be e mailed to me from thailand to the uk by my accountant! Anyone done this?

So you cant post it anymore!always sent it to Birmingham consulate and nothing on there website saying you cant send it to them!
