Phuket Immigration crackdown announced

PHUKET CITY: Phuket Immigration this morning held a press conference to announce measures aimed at improving compliance with immigration law, including the requirement that owners of all hotels, guesthouses and rental homes report foreigners on their premises to immigration within 24 hours of arrival.

Phuket Immigration Superintendent Chanatpol Yongbunjerd told the press that the crackdown follows the recent arrest of three ethnic Rohingyas on charges of involvement in an international human smuggling ring.

The three men, two of whom were arrested in Songkhla's Haad Yai district, are also suspected of having links to terrorist groups including Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

The crackdown is also part of stepped-up security in the run-up to the 42nd Asean Foreign Ministers Meeting, scheduled to take place at Laguna Phuket from July 16 to 23, Col Chanatpol said.

Expected to attend that event are Foreign Ministers from all 10 Asean states as well as their counterparts from dialogue partners Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the European Union, the United States, China, India, South Korea and Russia.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to attend the meeting, during which the ministers are expected to try and hammer out a unified approach to the nuclear ambitions of pariah state North Korea – which successfully carried out a nuclear test in May.

Col Chanatpol used the press conference to ask for co-operation from hotel owners as well as employers of low-wage foreign laborers, who must report the details of all foreigners under their employ as soon as possible – or face fines.

Other security measures will include: more thorough screening of foreigners entering and leaving the country, especially those on watch lists or exhibiting suspicious behavior; increased co-operation with local police departments in monitoring residences with foreigners in domicile, especially those with suspicious behavior; increased security in popular tourism and nightlife entertainment areas; and better co-ordination and information exchange among police and related agencies.

Col Chanatpol also asked the public to report any problems or useful information to Phuket Immigration on 076-212108.

Phuket Immigration Inspector for Investigation Suparerk Pankosol, who also attended the meeting, told the press that homeowners who fail to inform Immigration of foreigners staying in their homes – either as guests or under rental agreements – face fines not exceeding 2,000 baht.

Owners of hotels, guesthouses and other commercial accommodation establishments who fail to report guests are subject to fines ranging from 2,000 baht to 10,000 baht, he said.

Phuket Immigration's webmaster, Bunta Lapet, told the media that such registration could be conducted quickly and easily on line by using the site's "Phuket Immigration Enterprise" webpage.

3 Italian men, Thai woman arrested at drug party in Pattaya

Pattaya, Chon Buri: -- Police arrested three Italian men and a Thai woman at a drug party in this seaside town less Friday night.

They were arrested at a rented room in Southern Pattaya at 15 minutes after midnight. Police found 0.3 gramme of crystallised methamphetamine and 20 gramme of marijuana inside the room.

The tourists were identified as Davide Migliorero, 38, Davide Tomasi, 28, and Caroselli Loca, 31.

The Thai woman, Orwan Juminorn, 24, said one of the men took her from a bar on Pattaya Walking Street, where she works, to the room.

They were charged with having narcotics in possession for abusing.

The law says no drugs...I said No drugs.....OOPS ! isn't there a law against prostitution...?

 Very sad and most likely could of been could of been prevented.  I hope that there weren't any children involved.     Sleeping or not, it is very dangerous when these police escorted buses come flying by at speeds well above manufactures warrenty.  

No mention of the Drivers....?

SORRY, BUT THAT BEHAVIOR IS NOT STEREOTYPICAL OF ANY BREED. THE OWNERS AND WHOEVER TRAINED THESE DOGS ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE. PERIOD!

I agree that the owners are responsible for any incident that happens but there are certain established facts of behavior of pit bulls.

1. Pit bulls are known to be "one person" dogs. That is, they often form an attachment to one owner, and can be very protective and hostile to other people who they think might be a threat to that owner.

2. pit bulls often "gang up" on someone they attack. One pit bull bites a person, and the others follow in the attack. It's like a "attack" button is pushed when they see another dog bite or growl.

3. But curiously, pit bulls raised with the family children often are very protective of those children, and won't attack them. The problem is that, as I said before, pit bulls are known to sometimes go berserk when they see another dog bite or attack a person. When that happens, even family members are in danger.

I hate to spoil your thought. but that is not true. Pit bulls attack children and babies when they are crawling around on there knees, it has been said that they attack because they feel they are being challanged. The ones that have been known to do it. are the ones where the owners said they wouldn’t hurt a flea. People just want to believe what suits them.  We have had alot of attacks in America, most of them toddlers or children who are literaly torn apart by these dogs..they find pieces of them scattered from where the initial attacks are. Don't try to tell us these are very protective over children. You are told if you have children do not have Pitbuls children and Pits don't mix.  

37-year-old woman mauled to death by 3 pit bull terriers

NAKHON SAWAN: -- A woman was mauled to death by 3 pit bull terriers, which also injured her three relatives and killed another local dog, police said.

Police said Raksina Techawatanabamrungkij, 37, was killed late Friday night after she released the three pit bull terriers from the cage into the compound of her family's rice mill.

Her mother-in-law, Charoensri Lorlertrat, 53, her daughter, Thaweephan Lorlertrat, 20 months, and her brother-in-law, Satit Lorlertrat, 33, were injured by the dogs.

Charoensri told police that Raksina left the house to release the terriers from their cage at about midnight but she did not come back inside, prompting her daughter to cry.

Charoensri came out to look for her and found her badly-mauled body along with a local pet dog of the family.

The pit bull terriers then turned to attack Charoensri and her granddaughter. She cried for help and when her son came out to help, he was also attacked.

Eventually, Charoensri's husband, Seksuek Lorlertrat, came out to help and shot two terriers dead while the other one escaped.

I have to say I am very happy about this. Usually it is some unsuspecting child that ends up killed. It is refreshing to know that this time they went after their owner. Oh you want me to feel something or say it is sad. Try being a child walking down the street with 8ft walls on both sides and no where to go. I am happy they attacked the owner. I don’t care if they lived on a farm or not, I am sad the child got hurt.. These dogs are dangerous. The first time I heard of a dog attack here was the rotwiler that attacked that poor little baby girl and killed her, the mother said she sat there and listened as the baby called out mommy. That just breaks me; I can't help but to think of how terrifying it was for the child.  

When I first saw that Pitbulls are being sold in the market, I told my wife, it will only be a year or two and we will start to see more and more attacks, children being killed viciously by Pit bulls. Thais don't manage animals well as it is, imagine these pit-bull terriers on the loose in the streets. In America they have gotten smart about it. Now, if you’re pit-bull attacks and kills…. you, can be held for murder. The problem is not actually the dog itself, it is the owners. Thailand should not allow these dogs to be sold in the market; and the dogs should be branded somehow so that the owners can be held accountable. I know this is Thailand, it is a thought. My wife and walked past our neighbors house in Bangkok as they sat on the porch watching their pit bull trying to tare through the old fence. The dog will get through that fence one day and it will either kill someone or hurt them. While the owner stands there and watches as his dog commits the vicious attack, will he be held accountable….NO

My 14 year old luk krung daughter is being pushed to take sides at school in the red/yellow debate. She is adament that she wishes to remain neutral. Is anyone elses children encountering the same behaviour?

Tell here to say she is orange, because she believes in both parties. Tell her to say she loves thailand and everyone in it and is wearing orange to show she cares...?

IF nothing else maybe it will confuse the sh**t out of the little buggers. It is important for her to smile when she says it.
