  1. Is there any place in Bangkok that sells shoarma/pita?

Recently I tried the shoarma from a Dutch Restaurant(without the Dutch owner probably) at the corner of soi cowboy I was dissapointed.

2 small pita's barely warm, filled very small pieces of chicken mixed with lots of onion :o ..

They just don't know how to make it there.

Does anyone know where you can get GOOD shoarma(chicken)/pita in Bangkok?

  2. As earlier today on the website of:

    Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thailand

    TOURIST VISA EXEMPTION

    - According to the Interior Ministerial Announcements dated 1 October B.E. 2545 (2002), 20 December B.E. 2545 (2002), 18 October B.E. 2547 (2004) and 6 May B.E. 2548 (2005), passport holders from 40 countries and 1 special administrative region – Hong Kong SAR – are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 30 days on each visit. Foreigners who enter the Kingdom under the Tourist Visa Exemption category may re-enter and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry.

    - Please note that Tourist Visa Exemption does not apply to foreigners holding Travel Document for Aliens issued by these 40 countries.

    - Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category must possess adequate finances for the duration of stay in Thailand (i.e., cash 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family).

  3. This is really going to be a passport killer for some ! Couple years ago while waiting for a new contract start-up, I had to do 9 border runs in a row (still far cheaper than having to fly all the way to Canada to get a visa and fly back again).

Each one though requires a full passport page for the Cambo visa. Anyone doing the 2/month border runs, would use up 24 pages of their passport in a single year !

I can see it already, all farangs sleeping over the Cambodian border for a day, campsites would be comming out of the ground :D

Might be a good time to start investing in some cross-border "short-time" hotels ! :o

so today 90% of bar in pattaya close? they are all owned by farang.......

Owned by Thai you probably mean.

I agree. Very few bars I know of are owned by farang. Even some of the ones that are claimed to be owned, are in fact leased.

(then again, there's that scam that has being going around for years supposedly, of certain "shady" farangs selling part interest in bars they have no connection to at all !)

A Thai owns a bar that does not run so well.

A farang is interested and would like to run a bar.

Once business is better after a small renovation, the Thai (land) owner will probably "takeover" again one way or another.

And the foreigner has to find a new place in Thailand, if he still has the money for that.

And some(probably most) have to back to their home country.

  4. 30-days border runs now only 15 days

BANGKOK: -- In order to limit the amount of foreigners using "back-to-back" border runs, Thai Immigration has issued a new regulation regarding the 30 days tourist exemption.

Effective immediately, travellers without visa will get only 15 days of stay if they are arriving via a land border checkpoint from a neigboring country.

Passengers arriving via an international airport will obtain a 30 days stay, and for them there is no change.

Travellers with Malaysian passports will obtain a 30 days stay.

This police order number 778/2551 is today confirmed by Royal Thai Police, Immigration Bureau, in Bangkok.

I assume they will update this page soon? http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2490

  5. I think that Thailand wants to get rid of what it sees as the riff raff falangs. Those who cannot be bothered or just cannot get the right visa. If you have a legitimate visa there is no problem in staying here.

    Well said Sir!

This is a particular beef with me the "border runners" working here illegally.

Agreed. It just might get rid of some nasty and undesirable farang.

so today 90% of bar in pattaya close? they are all owned by farang.......

Where do you get your idiotic ideas- ferangs rent bars in general - they don't own them

Many farangs like to run a bar, some can do so for a while until they run out of money and someone else is taking over..

But thats going a bit off-topic.

  6. I guess they are a little late with updating?...

  7. Cut the power, stop water supply

No one cares, otherwise, they would have done last week. :o

I think if you piss off the protesters too much they may cause so much damage to the airport that it would take even longer to get everything up and running again.

I agree, you are dealing with a "you turned off the water, that's fine i'll just sh*t on the floor" kind of mentality. Probably better to keep the utilities turned on, atleast then when it reopens biochemical suits may not be required.

You can clean up SH*T , but you can't clean structural damage.

  8. Cut the power, stop water supply

No one cares, otherwise, they would have done last week. :o

I think if you piss off the protesters too much they may cause so much damage to the airport that it would take even longer to get everything up and running again.

    Then it's no longer "occupying".

If they really start to "destroy" the airport, the structure itself, then we'll get other methods to clear the airport(s).

  9. Cut the power, stop water supply

No one cares, otherwise, they would have done last week. :o

    If they only had this:...

    soundcannon.jpg

The Long Range Acoustical Device (LRAD), is a device that directs sound for up to 1,500 feet in a spotlight-like beam. It has been used by the U.S. military against protestors in Iraq and for communicating at sea. It is now being used on crowds of protestors, as witnessed recently in New York.

  10. Kulala Lumpur is a train ride away, and for Europeans no visa, so no.. there is no excuse for staying in Bangkok and whining about being trapped. But it must be exciting for them nevertheless, just think of all the stories when they get back home. And if you can squeeze a few extra days from your annual holiday ration, then why not.

    :o

Personally I would not take the train to the south at the moment..

  11. Can everyone stop posting about being stranded in Bangkok?! Take a bus/van/taxi/limo to Chiang Mai. It takes 7 to 8 hours and you will then be able to fly to Taiwan and Singapore. Alternatively, a few more hours and you will reach Phuket with flights to Australia, Singapore, KL, Hong Kong etc.

    Is that really so complicated?

Yes its inconvenient. The whole thing is incredibly inconvenient for me too. But you are not "trapped" or "stranded"!

    Agree with that.

Yesterday there was a Thai businessman complaining that he was stuck the HongKong airport,

he was on live tv in the news(by phone).

In the news they asked the man, "why you don't buy another ticket and fly to ChiangMai?"..

Then he answered that he did not have the money to buy another ticket.....

    :o
