  1. Looking at the ID card of this kid (I'm 66, I've earned the right to call him that) he's barely 160cm tall, which is 5 foot nothing, and slender built. No way in hell he could have done this by himself.

how big was bruce lee ?
Oh, get real! This is a papered "mamma's boy" would wouldn't know the differences between Shotokan, Aikido and Wushu if he was to watch an exhibition of all three. And by the way, Bruce Lee was 174cm.

He might be a little scrote, but with a club in his hand he could easily do some damage. Personally, if he is involved I very much doubt he acted alone, but don't for one moment think some little boy ain't capable of shit like this. I know from work experience.

Do not forget that this picture is an ID card picture ; it was obviously shot many years ago. From his face, I would say he could have been 16 or 17 then, so that leaves many years for him to grow and become a sturdier man than he was then.

    Q: "Why don't you work?"

    A: "I have investments."

Q: (actually a statement) "You are too young to be not working."

    A: "I have investments."

    Q: "Why aren't you working?"

A: "I have investments. I am an investor."

Crazy. I never heard about that another country questioned somebody who obviously can stay on his own feets and not need any goverment money that way. Since when it is business of the immigration officers to decide if somebody is to young for "not working"? Cause in Thailand you can officially only retire if you are 50?

Some people never work all their life, their occupation is just to be son or daughter. Many families in the west are rich enough, some have inherited a fourtune in young years, other sold a startup below 25 - or just have investments around the world, real estate, stocks, or other assets generating a steadily passive cash flow. But exactly this kind of people want PRIVACY, and they are not used be questioned by somebody who behave like some kind of boss. If you accumulated some funds and are free enough to life everywhere in the world without work, you could become bugged by behaviors like this, that somebody quizzes you in and out like you are a clerk just cause u decide to stay 30 days longer in a country.

It's all not so good news, strange behavior. I hope Thailand get the turn before a lot of quality tourists they actually want become rid of this behavior.

I fail to see why being lucky enough for having enough money to live without working, should entitle you to the additional privilege of escaping common law and common hassles ...

Enlight me what your statement wants to tell me.

    ...

So why they are so doubtfully and unbelieving if somebody just want to extend his visa for another 30 days? If they want to find people working illegal so this method is ineffectiv for the immigration and bothering for the longterm tourists. Why they not just drive to the places where people really working and check their if everybody has a workpermit?

Sure this officer was quite awkward but his job is to see to it that noone works in Thailand without the proper visa. He has every power to act the way he wants because its his own country, like it or not (and I do not like this attitude too)

I just wanted to point out that everyone, not only the rich, "wants PRIVACY", and does not like to "be questioned by somebody who behave like some kind of boss". Everyone, not only the rich, would become "bugged by behaviors like this".

This said, I fully agree with you that it would be effective too to find illegal workers - and even more real criminals - where they are supposed to be, which does not seem to be a priority for the time being.

  4. could you tell me where the 2 boy bars are in udon thani?

    thanx rick

Excerpt from my blog - to date November 2010

Boyzone Bar is one of the two gay bars left in Udon Thani. The location is not very convenient as it is quite far from the center and walking there would be at least a thirty minutes chore. Boyzone has just changed its location and some tuk tuk seem not to know the new place. They have a website which gives a good idea of what the boys there look like ( go to http://www.theboyzone-udon.com/home ). The exact location is on PhornPhisai Road, west of the north end of Thanon Adunyadet, exacty between Adunyadet Soi 7 and Pracha Uthit Road intersections. Moreover the owner is a cute young thai who has a very pleasant attitude and speaks excellent english.

To my great disappointment, the old Boys Boys Bar closed four or five months ago ; they had moved to a new location near the Srisuk Road Post Office (same soi as Bandung Spa), and it is a pity they closed, as they had more of the boys next door type.

The third bar is City Man on the south part of Adunyadet Road, between the Fountain Circle and what the locals call the Haayaek Wunwai (which translates approximately as a crossing with five roads converging which is a nightmare). They have four or five boys, all very male, but their policy is not very fair ; if you invite a boy (or if they invite him for you), they will add beers as long as you do not stop them so that you have to be on your guards if you want to keep in control of the tab and your alcohol consumption.

  5. Come on people, make an effort and go to Koh Samae San or somewhere like that instead. Has a beautiful deserted beach and hardly any tourists.

I thought Samaesan was an army property ... where in Samaesan village do you find boats which will bring you to the island ? (I only saw fishermen boats). And are there any facility (restaurant, toilets) on Ko Samaesan ?

  6. There is plenty of gay life in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Pattaya & Phuket but what about the rest of Thailand? I am thinking of doing a nationwide tour and would appreciate a heads up!

Do a search on the gay boards and something will surely pop up about gay places in Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Hua Hin, Khorat : there is (has been) at least one gay venue in each of these places that I have personnally checked but some may have closed.

    • Accomodation: PJs Place, Lotus Hotel (The gay one as there are two in CM)
    • Eating: La-vie-en Rose, Sabbai Dee Santitham
    • Drinking: Soho Bar, Metro Bar or Garden bar (At Lotus Hotel)
    • Dancing: Mandalay
    • Massage: BBeez, One 2 Come
    • Karaoke: Barrocco, Club-M
    • Go-Go: Adam's Apple or Free Guy

    Thanks for the tips.

Are the karaoke you quote gay-only places ? And is it possible to "off" the staff ?

If yes, where are they located ?

  7. I've visited Chiang Rai over the past 7 years, and the gay scene has always been quiet. Now, I would say that it has become dormant. Formerly, Lobo Boy Bar had an amateurish show, but with cute fresh guys. Ten years ago, it was way overpriced: 100 baht entrance fee, 90 baht for a small beer, and a 500 baht "off" fee if you wanted to take one of the boys home with you. I went there last night, and can report that it has degenerated into nothingness. No show. Waiters not even cute. And I paid 100 baht for a glass of soda water. I was the only customer, and that was one more than they deserved. Place has a "For Sale" sign posted. I'd say that the whole operation is worth no more than a dollar. In case my opinion is not clear, here it is: Turn your back and run away as fast as you can. You will do a lot better by just cruising the very nice Night Market.

Thank you for the report ; I am booked in Chiang Rai for the end of next month and interested in any update.

Despite your advice I think I will have a look at Lobo because only two years ago I saw nice boys there ... I even took one but only for going to a disco with my B/F and also a guy from Regency.

Do you know whether Regency Bar (facing Wang Come) is still open ? Did you visit ?

I also got the information that there would be a massage service in The North Hotel ... Will update as soon as I have more.

  8. Rumour has it the new bar along the road, next to Spirit House will be called Cockpit.......... aptly, if somewhat unimaginatively named if what's been promised is true :)

Confirmed by the Ratchada website (but mentioned only in the map section with this comment : New bar opening next to spirti house restaurant with interesting boy entertainment!).

Any review or first-hand report ?

  9. My partner and I are moving to Korat this summer and I was hoping that there were some kind of gay life in the city. While I know that Isaan tends to be on the conservative, and closeted side, I still thought there might be a bar or pub where we can hang out with other gay men and lesbians. He is from the area originally and we visited last year but didn't see or hear of anything remotely "gay" other than the local cruising spots which we are not interested in.

I staid in Khorat last November and was disappointed to see that the only gay bar I was aware of was closed on the night I was there. It was called Buddy Boys on a small soi near the railway area (at the end of an alley among private houses) ; this is a host bar with some boys and has a nice atmosphere - but it perhaps belongs to the 'local cruising spot' category.

I could not determine whether the bar was closed for good or only for some days, and had to leave on the following day. Does anyone have more information ?

In Pailin Square (west of town near Sima Thani hotel but on the east side of the high road), there is an all-male disco called Khorat 69 which looks more oriented to the youger crowd - although the doormen urged this lonely (not too) old farang to enter the place - which I did not.

  10. (From the Lexitron dictionary)

  11. Any recommendations for dermatologists in Pattaya???

There is a well-known one in Somdet Hospital in Sri Racha ; he sees patients only on Fridays and another day in the week. You have to go very early in the morning. Will gather further information next time I go and see him.

  12. I am thinking of having 3-4 days in the south. I have done Phuket and Krabi, so I was thinking of Hat Yai or similar and move around.

I see that there is a sauna.

Are there other places which have saunas, gay-friendly hotels, gay bars? I know that it is possible to meet new friends in Robinson's (even), but I was thinking of a place which has a bit of gay life.

    Where did you guys stay?

There are at least three boy bars in town, the best of which being G-Men (at least when was there two years ago). They are all within walking distance one from another, which is very convenient.

My hotel of choice is Florida Hotel in the southern part of town which is very cheap, clean, close to the bars and not too far from town centre.

  13. and some of the bars like Aladin or Charming Boys have been there more for than 15 years.

For your information Aladdin closed three or four years ago and moved to a new location near OrTorKor market with a new name (Asian Boys or something like that) ; I don't know if they are still open now.

It is a long time since there is no new bar in the area although I read somewhere that a new place would have just opened in Soi Kawtoei.
