  1. Thanks for the reply.

Do you know any shops in Chonburi or Rayong province that sell them? Se-ed Sri Racha only had one model left, I mean down to the last item on the shelf, and it was 14,900 Baht. 3,900 is more my budget. I don't need a 14,900 Baht model. I wouldn't use it enough to justify the expenditure.

Eagle GPS, Chiang Mai will EMS you a Garmin nuvi 1250 right to your door step. Many posters have used their mail service to purchase a GPS. Contact them here: http://www.eaglegps.co.th/. This is a "cheap and basic" brand-name Personal Navigation Device (PND) that easily fits in your pocket and can be hand carried. Other models would be better suited for trekking, but cost more.

  2. OK, no takers.

I discovered myself that (dodgy?) Chinese "Blueberri's" start from 3,000 Baht whilst the only Garmin I could find was 14,900 Baht, the 3790 model.

Updates are free for a year and after that cost 400 Baht (Blueberri) or 450 Baht (Garmin).

Garmin nuvi 1250 sells for 3900 baht in Thailand complete with Thailand Street Map.

  3. To view current Trip Log you need to touch Tools > Settings > Map > Trip Log > Show > Ok and then View Map on main screen.

To view previous Track Logs you need to connect your Nuvi 765 to a computer and dowload the current.gpx file. Open the current.gpx file with a track/map viewing program that you download off the internet and select the appropriate track..

  4. Dear Helmut,

thanks for the codes. Also, thanks for the other memebers whom spend their time for my request. I might be able to find the remaining 2 locations with the help of google maps. I'll take my notebook with me this time.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you,

    Amal

You may find these co-ordinates a little more useful:

Mon Cham (Mon Jam) Camping Resort: N18.93574, E98.82286

Pai Hot Springs Spa Resort: N19.30873, E98.46145

Huai Nam Dang Nation Park: N19.30053, E98.60156

    Mueang Chiang Mai: N18.79048, E98.98454

    Pang Ung: N19.49936, E97.90638

    Samoeng: N18.84829, E98.73228

  5. Would it be possible to register the land (with the house) on the child's name (Thai citizen) ,

and make then the usufruct in the benefit of the father (farang)?

So that it is still void also after a divorce?

    Thanks and regards

YES you can register land with a title deed (Chanote) in a Thai child's name. The usufruct would then have to be approved by the Juvenile and Family Court. Ownership of the house is another separate issue.

  6. I've been searching for your co-ordinates. Aside from the obvious one, Chiang Mia, I can find a hot spring, a national park, a Royal sponsored project, a couple of resort hotels, a mountain camp ground and a road name. Most of the names don't exactly match anything on Google or my Garmin GPS and certainly are not cities, so I have no idea what you are looking for.

  7. Google Maps gives you the co-ordinates in decimal format, the same format (h ddd.ddddd0) Garmin uses. All you have to do is add the hemisphere (h), "N" longitude and "E" latitude for Thailand. You enter the same co-ordinates in your Garmin GPS. Chiang Mia University is located at N18.799720, E98.954620.

  8. Thanks for the tip! Could you please be more specific as to where this is, I'm not familiar with the Rimpa Lapin restaurant?

According to my GPS the Rimpa Lapin restaurant is located on Na Chom Thian (Jomtien) Soi 36 off Sukhumvit Road south of Jomtien Beach. O.K. Fishing is shown on the corner of Sukhumvit Road. Soi 36 is toward the ocean off Sukhumvit Road just past the technical college..

  9. Yah - Thai's tend to be supersticious - probably b/c those things happen. And, probably a bug or improper wiring. Never heard of AFCI but if you read this forum, RCD/RCBO is recommended (if you had, you would not have seen that problem).

RCD/RCBOs are not intended to detect an electrical arc that does not involve earth (ground). A L-L or L-N arc will not be detected by a RCD/RCBO.

  10. 1. Is your wife a Thai or Australian citizen? 100% foreign ownership is exactly that, not joint Thai/Australian ownership.

    2. What is the source of the funds and do you have a Foreign Exchange Transaction Form from your Thai bank?

    3. The condo does not necessarily have to be foreign owned. It can be owned by your Thai wife.

    4. A Thai will can take care of the inheritance issue for Thai assets.

  11. I think its a little unclear from the OP whether the promises of future leases are 'signed' or not (i.e. contained within a binding contract and appropriately drafted).

It's perfectly clear from the Civil and Commercial Code that any lease contract of immovable property of greater than three and a maximum of thirty years must be registered at the land office and recorded on the back of the Chanote. Any term in excess of thirty years must be reduced to the thirty year maximum. Any future renewals (extensions) are subject to fair market value at the time of renewal and therefore cannot be presigned, predated and preregistered. The so-called 30+30+30 lease contract for immovable property has never been validated by a Thai court nor is there any basis for it in the Civil and Commercial Code..

  12. Per GPSsociety spec sheet voice-activated navigation is not available on the Thailand nuvi 2565.

This is my first GPS so excuse my ignorance but what is the GPSsociety spec sheet or where can i find it

    Cheers

    Jack

GPSsociety is the website of the Thailand authorized distributor for Garmin. Link to website Tech Specs HERE

  13. In your case.. why not look for a high quality generator? A small 1000 watt generator will keep a few lights and your computer stuff going as long as you have fuel. I stress "high quality" because generators vary in clean/dirty output quite a bit. So before plugging your UPS into a generator make sure it's a quality generator.

The rotating magnetic fields in a generator will produce a clean sine wave, the loads are what add the "dirty" output power.

  14. Rimmer... What caused the high current that caused the transformer fuse to blow? Was it an imbalance of the 3 phases, some other type of yet-identified fault, or did the terminal block melt enough to short out? Seems unusual to have such high currents caused just from an open neutral. Would be good to see a diagram of the loops and nodes to see how this really occurred.

Also... Electricians failing to tighten down terminals is a fairly common thing in my experience. Eagerness to get the job done prevails and not many double-check their work.

Obviously a lack of protection coordination. We have a 125MCB backed-up by 63A fused main disconnect switch backed-up by unspecified transformer fuses, with the transformer fuses clearing the fault.

  15. unfortunately light bulbs seem to be a consumer item in Thailand, whether conventional or power saving. my average = 48 hours / 1 bulb

Light bulbs, especially energy saving or CFL, that only last 48 hours is a good indication that something is not normal with the electrical system.
