  1. I got it

Working fine everywhere apart from chiang mai. It seems to shit itself when driving around the north side of the moat and the roads around there

If you are having trouble with TSM v.2012.40, which is most unusual, try and exchange the map for TSM v.2012.30 (where you bought the map) or wait fore the next version map to be published and download it from the internet. Free when downloaded within 1 year.
  2. For starters, the Thai landlord controls the real property (land) and you control the commercial activities (lease) as registered on the Chanote. Under these circumstances, with no money changing hands for the lease and no real property rights (usrfruct, superficies etc.) included on the rear of the Chanote, I do not see how you expect to hold on to the lease if the Thai owner changes his mind.

  3. It would help if people just downloaded the Owner's Manual that is provided for your Garmin. Read the manual completely before you ask a question. Most of the troubles reported on this Topic refer to u-turn avoidance, map selection, and shortest or fastest route. The manual is not the most detailed, but gives you the general idea of what to look for.

  4. Hi again. Before i go out and update my maps with Thailand Street Maps, Im thinking about just buying a whole new GPS with Thailand maps installed already. My Garmin 1350 is showing its age a little bit, and if it isnt that much more expensive, I might just opt for a new one. The Thailand Street Maps looks like it costs 2000 baht, but Im not sure how much a new GPS preloaded with Thailand maps would cost. I once looked in Carrefour which is now Big C and the cheapest GPS they had was around 5000 baht but that was a few years ago. I might head over to Panthip and see what they have there.

Garmin 40 will cost you THB 3990.00 complete with TSM 2012.40 map. Be sure to get the English version map installed.

  5. I have used Garmins in several countries. I had the same issue in the middle east. It has something to do with the maps they were loaded and being used. As an example I has DESERT KSA loaded and GCC MAPS loaded. Different maps but for same region. You can go back in the menu and disable one of the maps. I had same issue. The GPS would say trip time 2 hrs when I knew it was 10 mins. After setting up with one map all was normal.

Garmin nuvi 40, as most nuvi models, will handle only one map at a time. When you try to set it up for more than that, you will run into trouble.

  6. Thanks for the replies.

Wimpy - where did you buy or download that Thai Street Maps? I did a google search and couldnt find it..eaglegps.co.th/index.php/lang-en/maps

Moose - I will try that shop, hope it works on my Nuvi. I still use this Nuvi on both continents, so I hope it wont overwrite anything from my home map.

Thailand Street Maps (TSM v.2012.40) is available from Eagle GPS, Chiang Mai or direct from the manufacturer in Bangkok, GPS Society. Eagle GPS @ http://www.eaglegps.co.th/index.php/lang-en/maps or GPS Society @ http://www.gpssociety.com/EN/Pages/map.aspx.

  7. The English language map is available from an included CD, ...

If you get the CD. I didnt.

The firmware and maps are easily downloaded though.

I suspect that you received a Singapore Garmin nuvi 40 that included the Singapore/Malaysia maps. Does your English language version contain the Thai OS and display junction views within Bangkok?

  8. Did the say the word Chanote, or did they ask for proof of residence?

The female police captain asked to see the actual chanute.I had the black house book and electricity and phone bills in my name. They also want to see the paper with the shareholders listed.

Sounds like you are using a Thai company that actually owns the house. Immigration wants to see the actual shareholders list of who owns the house..

  9. So, went to the store on the bottom floor of tukcom and it's totally changed now and has no GPS units.

Went to Powerbuy in central, they had this unit i was after, as per normal got NO feedback or info from the sales zombie - she knew just a little bit less than nothing. She did however call some lady in bangkok who informed me that this model ( Nuvi40 ) only comes in Thai language, is that correct?

If that is correct? if so what are the options, to have someone bring from overseas or order online then just download the map for Thailand?

    Thanks.

The Thailand Garmin nuvi 40 comes with a Thai language map installed. The English language map is available from an included CD, GPSsociety (ESRI) on-line, and selected dealers that know what they are doing. Price is 3,990 THB, complete.

  10. If your talking about the south-side next to the View Talay Condominium and Central Festival/Hilton location, then you had better hold on for another 3 years before you get ready to move in. I have not paid much attention to the vacant lot there, but I could be wrong. I'll keep my eyes open the next time I'm going by.

  11. It is possible that you received an original Singapore Garmin nuvi 40. Those included a Singapore and Malaysia (Sin/Mal) language map. They do not include the Thai language or US language maps that are included with the CD for downloading and sold in Thailand.

I dont think so as the unit I bought had the Thai map installed by default and the instruction book was in Thai.

This is why I replied to you on another topic as I was told in two different locations that the 40 was only English or Thai and not switchable in use. You appear to have solved this so congrats thumbsup.gif . I ended up buying the next model up - but it has got a bigger screen.....

The Garmin nuvi 40 sold in Thailand includes both the Thai and US language mapsets. Also included is the Thai OS, local POIs, spoken Thai or English voice, Thai keyboard, and many other switchable menu options. If you have to switch or change your original menus (reprogram memory) then you don't have an original Thailand purchased GPS.

  12. The Thailand purchased Garmin nuvi 40 includes a CD complete with a Thai lauguage map, a US language map, and instructions.

My CD didn't have maps on, just instructions. The shop downloaded the first English map from the website and subsequently I got my map updates from the same website as I described.

  13. I hope someone can help with this because I'm getting conflicting answers from the local shop. I ordered a Garmin Nuvio 40. Before I left the shop, I opened it up and wanted them to show me directions from Rayong to Bangkok in English.

Staff comments-No problem. Then, this version doesn't support English. Next, it supports Eng but the maps only in Thai script. Finally, can you come back tomorrow.

After I told them I didn't want it, they asked if I could return tomorrow since they can't get support today to answer my questions.

So, does the map show in English not Thai script. Should I receive a cd with this? Should I pay more than 3,990 baht to get an English version?

    Thanks in advance

The Thailand purchased Garmin nuvi 40 includes a CD complete with a Thai lauguage map, a US language map, and instructions. The cost is 3,990 THB, complete. The Thai map, with Thai script, is normally supplied to retail dealers. The US map, with US script, can be downloaded from the supplied CD. You need a computer and miniUSB cable to download from the CD, if you don't have a computer then purchase from a suitable US map dealer/distributer.

  14. AS matter of interest if i upgrade does it wipe all the saved detinations on the old map, i purchased Gramain in the UK but got ESRI on disk here and added into the slot on the unit

    Thanks

How can you add a ESRI CD disk bought here and then add it to the microSD slot on your Garmin? There seems to be a step or two missing somewhere. If you bought a microSD map from ESRI, just pliug it in and your ready to go after selecting the new map.

I never used a CD i got a sd card here with the ESRI map on which i plugged into the sd slot on the unit to get the Thai map. I meant a secure digital card . I used the term disk with a k as opposed to a c to mean sd card not a compact disc as i use Skan Disk sd cards, should have been clearer. So just want to know does up dating the secure digital card overwrite added favourits.

Adding the microSD card into the slot on your Garmin just installs another program which can be selected by using the [Map > Map Info] selection. It does not change the GPX file where your added favorites are stored.

Installing another program you would use the information provided on post #11 above.

  16. For you to register the condo as foreign ownership, less than 49% rule, you'll need full payment to be covered by a Foreign Exchange Transaction Form (FET) from your local bank. Anyway, you are married so a divorce court will probably award a 50/50% property split as part of the settlement. Sin Somros or Sin Saum Tau status makes no relevance since you are legally married. Actually, who put in the money is what counts before the Court.
