I have used the same shop for years, they did by mirror back splashes in my Euro Kitchen, mirrors over vanities in bathrooms, etc. Reasonably priced. They also do screens and light metal fabrication. Price depends on thickness of glass, so if you want anything thicker than thin, specify and get price. They are good at sealing edges adjacent to water supply. Chotana road merges into Champuak Bus Station, which is the name of that part of Chiang Mai. You will see a White Elephant where the road separates just before the bus station if you come from the south and approach superhighway from that direction.

The shop opens to the street, understand English and are located on the east side of Chotana Road just south of the Super Highway. Best access is to approach Chotana road on super highway and turn south. There is a underpass at this intersection and it is the first intersection you reach when you travel east from the beginning of super highway at Huay Kaew road, same intersection as Rincon Hotel is located.

Chotana road runs North and South and is the one that passes Novatel Hotel which has the Tops Supermarket adjacent.

  2. New house is coming along very well and now I need to locate a shop that can install mirrors. Been looking around as I drive but havent seen anything sofar. Getting to know CM area so if anyone can give me a general location with a road name or a place nearby that I can use as a reference that would be great.

    Thanks

  3. Im in need of some bubble wrap and papers they use for wrapping dishes and other breakable things. I posted this a couple of days ago but its not listed. Do need any info anybody can offer as we plan on going to our other place in the jungle near Laos and bring a truckload back before Christmas. Included in this trip is our nice BBq so I can make my own holiday foods instead of the expensive eat out.

Thanks for all your help in the past with moving information

  4. Well this forum has been very useful and helpful for my moving process to Chiang Mai. Thanks to the forum I did find Nim See Sing most helpful in finding a truck in the area where I will be loading the household goods. Now what Im looking for is bubble wrap and paper used to wrap dishes and such. Wont say anything more so those on the site that like to correct grammar cant have much to say :)

  5. For an alternative to replacing the plastic, sanding and compounding using a plastic restoration kit is supposed to work, but I can not say I have done this myself.Tailwinds Captain.

What I have now is lexan but its been too long in sea conditions in Asia to consider reworking. Lexan unless you can find UV is not any better than other products and costs alot more. Thanks for the input.

  6. Lucite is a plastic such as Lexan but dont think I can get that in Thailand.

The reason that you have not had any replies is probably because not many prople know what Lucite is. If you had said Plexiglass, Perspex or simply Acrylic people would recognise that. Lexan is trademark of GE and is nothing like Acrylic, in fact it's a polycarbonate, and yes, would be far better for your application, but I have not come across it in Chiangmai. Acrylic sheet is readily availabe here, and probably the easiest place to get it is Chiangmai Plastics in Worowat market.

If you take the road nearly opposite the Bangkok bank in Thapae road, you will find it down about 100 Mtrs on your right.

Thanks for the info. This should get me started with connections if they are unable to provide what I need

  7. Im in need of some Lucite or something close to that for my sailing yacht. I want to replace my portlights as they are now hard to see through. Lucite is a plastic such as Lexan but dont think I can get that in Thailand.

The members of this net have been very helpful with everything I have needed in the past and I hope my responses to a couple of questions have been helpful.

Any place that makes signs for businesses will have the connection for this material. Im leaving in January for Borneo and hope to find and take with me.

Thanks alot for anyone with info and directions as Im new to Chiang Mai but have a GPS onboard that would help me to get where ever.

  8. I have a pickup and want to buy a shell so I can move items and keep them dry. In the states we call it a camper shell but know its called something else here. I see Carryboy on some trucks and sure there is a dealer or someplace here in Chiang Mai that sells others. Any help is appreciated.

  9. Im staying here with my wife and daughter and its a fantastic place. 2 minute walk to Tops Supermarket and laundry facilities nearby and also on site if you like. Very nice staff and very quiet. No elevator so be prepared to walk up to whatever floor you are. Been here for a month and will stay two more until our house is built. Thinking of keeping this place for friends that come and visit as its only 4000 plus electric and 300 for wifi which is also very good.

    Cheers

  10. Ive been in Chiang Mai for a couple of weeks staying in a condo and our house will be ready to move in in a couple of months. Ive not found a reasonable priced company to move my household goods from the eastern part of Thailand so I am hoping this forum can give me some advice on where to go or contact for packing materials and just a truck that can hold more than my toyota pickup.

Thanks in advance for any inputs

  11. Hi Guys, being an old bachelor I probably would be eating most meals out there. However, for lengthly stays I would probably just stay in from time to time and would like to cook up a beef stew or pot of beans and just wonder what the fresh veggie availabilty there is for carrotts, celery, new potatoes, cabbage, sweet onions, tomatoes, green beans, sweet peas; and great northern/navy white beans. Is the best place to buy the veggies at the large supermarket stores or the local market places. Also, where is the best place to buy a crock pot(slow cooker) and a rice cooker there, have to assume any of the major department stoes have them. Don't expect many of you there to have much interest in this topic but please chime in if you feel inclined to do so, any input would be greatly appreciated. No! I won't be having any live-in while staying there, just a visitor from time to time. Regards and have a good one.

I do most of the cooking and have every kitchen appliance known almost. Bib C Tescos and Macro are you best prices for crock pot rice cookers and such. Im not a chemist and do wonder what Thailand uses for insecticides???? My Thai wife said watermelons are the very worst and I like the rinds in a juicer for all the vitamins. Cant help you on the veggie department but look at those places and for sure you will find what your looking for

    Best to you

  12. Im currently in Phuket going to Woodys Sunday computer therapy class. Its a gathering of expats meeting to discuss problems with computers of course and getting a heads up on coming events. Woody who writes for the Gazette paper here in Phuket and also co author of Windows 7 for dummys runs the class. All of us no matter how dummy we are would like to hear other dummys tell storys over a coffee or tea one day a week and exchange movies and such.

Hope someone knows something about this or maybe wants to start up a get together. I will be moving to Chiang Mai In November and building so I will be there for along time

    Cheers

  13. Well well another trekee fan. My company in Colorado was called Star trak after Star Trek. Thanks for the info and do you have a number that I can contact them? Im in Phuket on business and will be in Chiang Mai the middle of October.

    Thanks

  14. Im looking for a moving company that can pack load and deliver household goods from east of Udon Thani. I used a firm in Phuket but most of my furniture was distroyed so want a bit better than that

  16. I dont believe the signal is getting worse. I designed satellite systems and can offer a bit of advice on the subject. Water or condensation in the cable could cause a problem but its usually a connector issue. Disconnect the cable and clean the contact with fine sandpaper. If you have a single conversion LNA then you probably have the PL 259 type connector which will clean itself if you plug and unplug a couple three times. There also should be a signal strength meter on your receiver so you can fine tune the dish. Its a simple thing to do as with Astro here in Malaysia as they have a setup for the dish and shows signal strength.

Hope this works for you and worse case is you just replace the cable as its cheap.

Im building a house in Northern Thailand and attempting to receive Astro Ku band using a 10 foot dish as the small supplied dish has no chance at 17 degrees North. If anybody has attemped this I would be happy to hear your results.

    Thanks
