  1. Two points:

    1) The article quotes 56%. that leaves a lot of high quality out there.

    2) Thailand exports worldwide. I have read of two instances when goods were returned. That means there are a lot of satisfied customers.

    a) Singapore rejected a load of Durian because the chemical content exceeded standards

b)Europe rejected chicken because of bird flu risk.

  2. If they wanted it to be effective then sub regulations would suggest penalties. Eg what would the fine be for having a broken phone or dead battery or leaving it behind (during Songkran etc).

I think the purpose is to install expensive tracker equipment something NASA would be proud of and get a healthy kick back  before scrapping the project as unworkable. The aircraft carrier, blimp, submarine, not to leave out the anti flood projects etc come to mind....

  3. I suppose you have to answer a few questions which may reveal something. Such as Have you made a will ? have you set your affairs in order? have you provided for anyone? Do you have any problems

Some people will realise they dont care to walk away and die and others will become really responsible. Maybe some will enjoy the release and go and commit suicide........

  4. Why stay in a hotel? Why not? I have lived in a hotel for 4 years and the facilities are better than a 4 million baht condo, it has more atmosphere better location but costs the same. The difference is in not having anything to sell in say 10 years but then I haven't had the maintenance either or the problems of selling and if i get bad neighbours I can move on.

  5. Thais do not want their country messed up like my country USA with black people 78% prisons filled females and males. So I understand what their saying. So say what you want to. But a fact is a fact

Seeing as we can say what we like here, how about this: there were no black people in North America until your inbred forefathers decided it was okay to capture them and enslave them, ship them in their tens of thousands across perilous seas, murdering and raping many thousands in the process...

Proud to be white eh.... bah.gif

EDIT: And this was after murdering all the real Native Americans...

The British brought the Africans to America. They bought them from Arabs and rival African tribal chiefs. Native Americans owned slaves themselves and were totally free unless they were violent. The native Americans wound up with valuable land and now have money making casinos robbing the whites of their money.

The Atlantic slave traders, ordered by trade volume, were: the Portuguese, the British, the French, the Spanish, and the Dutch Empire.

The Native American Indians were all displaced ( away from their preferred lands) but many, being humans, eventually managed to better themselves by understanding market forces. If the White Americans realised where the money was going to be they would have exploited that too. It was hardly in the original resettlement plan.

  6. Usual nit picky threads... but back to the main article; what typically happens to the people arrested? Is this the 20,000baht fine situation? and if they cant pay? Bangkok Hilton? The guys in the photo dont look like they could scrape up enough to pay any fine never mind the ticket cost for leaving the country.

I would have thought the main point in publishing this article is not 'how clever the police are' but as an announcement to others as to what the potential penalties are; otherwise it is hardly news worthy. For myself I have not learned anything from the article that I could not have guessed was happening as a regular occurrence.

Maybe this sweep will go on until the prisons are full and then hope enough fear is instilled in others to go legit....if they hear about it and can afford it !!

  7. wonderful. This sort of post brings out the worst readers who are so irrelevant they are funny.

The idea of the ban in crowded areas is fine by me; why do dipsticks want to carry their bottles of alcohol down to the sea or river when observing a religious festival? Beats me?

Am I wrong in thinking booze is banned in UK recreation venues sports stadiums etc without the blog sites going burp?

Is Nongkhailad in the centre of Bangkok?

Is it a cultural event to know that a small store off the beaten track never visited by police sells alcohol out of hours?

Is the fact that alcohol was allowed last year at all relevant when considering the law this year?

Ah well if only we could see the posters in real life. Are they gin swilling fat naked men pretending to be teenage girls....I wish we could observe....

  8. We seem to have a dichotomy here between we "oldtimers" (ATM only cards, with no expiry date), and the "newcomers" who seem to have a combined ATM/debit card with an expiry date on it.

Has anyone opened an account recently and been given, or offered, An ATM ONLY card, with no expiry date on it. Please ask your Thai acquaintances too, if you know of any who have recently opened a new bank account. There is a possibility that Thai customers are being offered a choice, while unsuspecting farangs are having the debit card option foisted upon them. If you find anyone who has recently obtained an ATM only card, with no expiry date, please indicate the name of the bank, and approximately how long ago.

My Krungsri ( Ayudhya) all ATMs debit card has an expiry date. However it does not have my name on it only : privileged member

  9. I use the yellow bank Krungsri or Ayudhya (whatever the spelling is). I have a visa with retirement extension.

On moving to another province I opened a new account and they transferred my existing balances into it for me. They suggested I left NIL balance in the other provincial account. Not sure about the charges but I think the card does cost. Certainly recently I lost one card and they wanted four or five hundred baht for a replacement.

    hope it helps

  10. The ignorance in this thread is incredible in this day and age. You are surrounded by hiv positive people all the time and don't even know about it. Hiv is extremely difficult to catch and saliva kills the virus pretty quickly. Medication also brings infectious mess down close to zero.

A study was completed recently where thousands of couples where one was positive and on medication and kne was negative, had unprotected sex over a couple of years and there was not one single infection.

HIV virus dies within 20 seconds of being exposed to air....

A well lubricated sex act without tearing of tissue is not going to transfer the virus

and this is why partners often do not transmit the disease even over many years.

  11. I use contract phones but have an old AIS from 5 years ago I use for phoning overseas. Went to AIS in June to register, apparently already done...I believe all providers have a number you can sms to clarify this, as that is all the girl in the shop did.

My girlfriend contacted the 'am I registered phoneline' ( cant find it, try google) to see if she was registered. She was.

However come August her phone wouldn't work. It seems that DTAC has this month phased out old SIM cards as they wont work with new 3G whatever. She went to the shop and was upgraded FOC with a new registered 3G SIM.

  12. This thread shows the irrational attitude of posters. We all know the rules depend on the immigration officer concerned. catch an officer on a bad day and woops it becomes a problem.

The fact that the old passport is no longer recognised by the UK government surely gives a massive clue as to the options available to the Thai immigration. How can a visa in an expired passport have any current value? Of course sometimes you get away with it but being logical suggests bring the new passport upto date and have the visa transferred..............

  13. I imagine 16 million people dont realise they HAVE to register, in which case this positive action of cutting off outgoing calls is brilliant. 16million people will be complaining to their service providers and becoming registered. Perfect. As usual the muppets crowd the blog with their own experiences and Victor Meldrew-isms....

Congratulations to the Government for producing a workable solution.

  14. It is no wonder that the cops only target the lowest grade of human life leaving bad parking speeding etc etc alone as they are terrified of being reprimanded for doing their job.

Thai law enforcement will not improve until a few high ranking police, military etc officers stand up and congratulate the cop on the street for being diligent.

The example being set by a few is a disaster for Thai public relations, little men wanting to be big are among the worlds worst...
