Finance Ministry Moves to Introduce 7% VAT on Inexpensive Imported Items

So , tired of hearing "mai mee & mai dai" here in Thai shops , you turn to lazada where they do have it, now we have to pay tax on it. This after we bring in money from abroad to be taxed from this year on. -
^ The Thai Garmin site is only in Thai. Even the translation by Edge browser is pretty much useless. I have more than enough money but I'm not paying 50-100 euro (what it costs in europe) for a garmin map. I don't live near bangkok. Long ago I had a little problem with the rubber battery compartment of my GPS12, and they were uncooperative and unfriendly and expensive. Later I went to Garmin in my country , and they gave me the rubber battery closer for free. I'll stick to the free maps in the links above.

Thanks Russ McD, but I can manage it. I already downloaded a Thailand map from one of the links above. 316 MB. Next time I go to the city , I'll buy a microSD card , because I only have SD's. From what I've read , it is better to have it on a microSD than in the directory of the gps itself. A bit anxious about maybe malware in such downloads that could harm my new GPS. You can't see in those .img files.

I don't know much about smartphones , but I doubt very much you can have 120 hours of ACTIVE gps tracking on one charge.
-
I guess you didn't read my post. Garmin switched to Li batteries in handheld and the gpsmap67 goes 130 hours , more in expedition mode. No smart phone can do that. Screen is smaller than smartphone , but my gps doesn't spy on me and is more rugged than a phone. I had my Garmin 12 for 22 years before it died.

Good link , Thanks. BBBike seems worth a try and some good comments below the how to article. Yes also good link , worth a try too. Thanks guys !

I don't want a smartphone , that is why I bought the Garmin 67. Li-battery lasts 180 hours , no smartphone can do that. I also bought a new camera because I don't want a smartphone.

I bought a Garmin GPSmap 67 in europe. Of course it had european maps. How do I get a more detailed map of Thailand without paying for the expensive Garmin one. Lazada has this :SD CARD GARMIN MAP Topographic Maps + OpenStreetMap Topographic maps and routes, Thai and international maps. | Lazada.co.th But I don't really trust that and it says : Thai TOPO MAP in Thai for devices that support Thai language only. I'd rather have an English language map of Thailand.

PEA advises on cost-effective air conditioners amid Thai heat
FlorC replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
A problem with buying an aircon is that you can never try it out in a store. They usually just have the plastic housing on display . I have an expensive on/off Daikin 24BTU and while it cools well , the lowest fan speed is still way too much noise. I absolutely hate it. Big aircon are much noisier than small ones. So oversizing is not always good. -
Yes , some EMF at home but not high voltage , high current switching like in an EV , very close to your body.
-
If the batteries ignite , yes my sky will fall in. I don't use anything wireless. The switching power of the electronics inside an EV is not healthy too. Electrosmog. Electric Cars & EMF Radiation: Could Your Tesla Be Bad for You? | DefenderShield Why would an EV be more comfortable than a regular car ? Because of a screen with menus ? Not for me , thanks. Modern ICE cars can be silent too . The tyres make noise too and EV's are heavier.

I rather drive an old non-smart car than a computer on 4 wheels. I love my dmax , not that dirty or smelly because I pass the car test every year. It is noisy but I don't hear it because my cd player is always on. It's a 4 door cab and with a small cushion for my back , it is comfortable enough. I have a closed garage , and feel pretty confident , I would sh-t my pants leaving a lithium battery car there. All my life I had not much luck with batteries. I don't see how it will be better with a battery powered car. BUT if I had solar panels on the house , I would considder an EV , but away from the house and only if the dmax was beyond repair.

My Isuzu dmax from 2007 can get 1000- 1200 on 1 tank , depending on how I drive.

Slightly off topic : Is there a bus from Mochit bus terminal straight to Suvarnabhumi airport ?
-
I just let them build and inner wall with qcon , actually TPI blocks on the noisy and sunny side. Nice to have a 21 cm thick wall instead of the cheap 6,5 cm concrete + rendering. And it takes care of those ugly sticking out support pillars , you see everywhere , usually every 4 meters. TPI blocks were 29 B , the concrete ones 6 B, Can't tell if it is much better , the house is not finished yet. Weak point will be the single glass windows.

AIS Fibre and 3BB unite to boost Thailand’s home Internet industry
FlorC replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And NT ? (former ToT-Cat). I have good internet with NT. -
My laptop doesn't support Wifi6 . LAN is secure , no WPA needed.
-
Your pics are a little confusing . I guess the yellow is the fiber cable . First is the ONT , or the second one ? Or both ?
-
Yes an ONT or without router may be too limited. Next year I go to europe for about 1 month , and I would like a camera connected to the internet that send a pic every 5 minutes or so , so that I can keep an eye on my cats , or better said : keep an eye on who's looking after my cats. I don't know how to do that , but I read about people that have surveillance of their house . No 24/7 video , just a simple status pic .

Thanks guys ! So it is totally possible to switch off wifi . I don't know much about routers. Can the LAN cable go directly from their modem to my computer , without a router ? The 5770 + 1000 +vat. is for all packages: ดูแพ็คเกจ (nteservice.com) , click on any + in the offers. To lay the fiber cable from their nearest station , first 300 meter is free. On this router , userid & passw are on the bottom : Huawei Echolife Eg8120l Gpon Onu ไม่1ge1fe1tel เราเตอร์โมเด็มใยแก้วนำแสง Sc Upc เฟิร์มแวร์ภาษาอังกฤษ | Lazada.co.th

Apparently the fiber cable comes to your house and you can use your own or their modem. I do not know if there are modems with a fiber cable input , and they are opaque about the rent for using their modem. What's the deal ? Another question : Can I switch off the wifi by going in their modem like with adsl modems in the past ? Like 198.198...... admin password , switch wifi on/off, so to only use the LAN. Those modems do have LAN in/out ? NT-Tot/cat has a promotion , but still have to pay connection 5770 + 1000 +vat. Thanks

Nan is really great. Just the 101 from Phrae to Nan is fun . Not as spectacular as the 11 to Lampang. Global house & especially Thai Watsadu , are big and great. Makro very big with nice parking lot. Bigc always crowded , Lotusssss not so much. Big chaotic market more north of town. The road from Phayao to Nan is spectacular. Nan is still small , no double frontage roads like in Lampang , or superhighway like CM , where 1 mistake lets you detour 20 km. It would be my choice to live when I'd leave my current place.

If you don't mind enormous flatpacks/snaps. If you don't mind loosing functionality of your touchpad and touch screen. If you're not interested in a good taskmanager that shows you a clear picture of what your computer is doing , especially your 1 or 2 GPU's. If you don't mind pulling your SD cards out without a clear signal that you can. If you don't mind renaming files/folders with a right click. Hard to install with secure boot on , weird grub screens at start up,.... Good windows apps that work differently (worse) or have no good alternative in linux and I can go on and on. But great that you are happy with it. I wish I was , so I could ditch windows.
