  1. Thai men using tweezers for facial grooming.

Or two 1 baht coins to do the same. I find it funny that seems to be the entire purpose for the wing mirrors on cars bikes and trucks.

Not to forget the messengers who groom themselves in almost anything reflective.

Finally the whole idea of luck. As an example my Tee Ruk told me recently her brother had bad luck and crashed his pickup while driving drunk.

  2. It would be nice to get some clarity of the dates. It is a long way to Surin from Bangkok, only to arrive a week early. Also I would guess it is the same as on Television each year (I forget the Television Station) so maybe better to watch it on television and not bother with the travel.

  3. If you go onto Highway 24 at Sihkio, and go about 5 km up that road to a place called Baan Tor Mai, there is a restaurant there that serves excellent food, and has a nice country feel about it. The rood is reasonably prices and there is also a souvenir shop attached, that sells interesting nic-nacs also at a keen price. They also do coffee's and all the morning Tea . Afternoon Tea stuff.

If you go to Google Earth or maps.google.com and put this in the search line it will take you to the location:

    14.8315N 101.7906E

I have tested it and it will locate you in the Car park of the Restaurant.

  4. i stay in Surin, where exactly is Harleys bar. Im not real familar with the area, other than passing by. If you could please give location I would like to stop by my next trip by.

South east corner of Hwy 214 & 24 intersection. As your going south from Surin you will come to 214&24 intersection (stop lights) look to the SE and you will see a Castro Oil sign Harleys Bar is just next door (in back). Go thru intersection about 100m and make a right turn go between building and you will see a large market area make another right go up towards 24 and on your right will be Harleys Bar and Garry's restaurant.

Thanks allot, always looking for a good restaurant and cold beer in Surin area.

Gary's restaurant next door to the Harley Bar does very good food also, and he has a good selection of all sorts of goodies, like home made pies, steak, salmon etc.

He just told me that the Harley Bar certainly is open every day. I do know that Paul does sometimes open the shutters a bit late, or if there is a party going on he might close for a little while.

Possibly the day you went there might have been the day they were having a few drinks to celebrate the return of James at the Leelawaddee Gardens and Paul was over there.

  5. They are a strip of white LED's maybe a meter long, they run on a lower voltage, and the light they give is excellent - very white. They also use considerably less power than other lighting sources (except natural of course) and therefore make themselves a good candidate for conversion of my tee-ruk's home to partial solar.

  6. Interesting - I had a look at the PB Air website, and the current timetable is only from October 20 to October 27, so hopefully there will be some good news soon.

I truly hope that the schedule allows people to commute from Surin to BKK and back again, therefore enjoy the weekend in parts of Burriram and Surin and back to work just in time for Monday morning :)

  7. That was the question I was asking, that its probably some scam with the local police there or if the car did cross the boarder, then there is something fishy going on there also.

  8. Whenever I need to take the car out of the country ... I need a car passport (tabien rot) & the registration docs to prove it is mine and paid for, sounds as though collusion is needed with the officials to work this scam!

    Why am I not surprised!

    TBWG :)

I can't help but wonder if the car ever entered Cambodia at all. It is very difficult to get a car legitimately across there. The last time I went to that boarder, there were plenty of scams and touts, sounds like a scam if you ask me.

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw..........................someone hiring your car and then hocking it. Can't see a scam there.

Then how did the car get across the boarder?

  9. I got some rockets from what I would call a local General store. They are a stick with gunpowder stuffed into a blue PVC Pipe with the top end closed off. The local police from the village did not like them and told us to stop.

  11. I would be asking what format do you want - 16:9 or 4:3 then how much light is there going to be in the room. Some of the cheaper models will do fine however perform poorly in low light conditions. If you really want to save, then I would be considering Tape also. Some of the Sony models from about 4 - 5 years ago that are Digital Camcorders that record on Tape produce an excellent result, as long as you are happy with 4:3 format. Also if using a camera like that you will want to maximize your image quality by capturing it on a Firewire or 1394 cable, the data transfer rate is far higher and therefore the mount of data per frame will also be greater. You can look at Fortune on Ratchada near Rama 9 Rd there are some shops there that sell 2nd hand kit. I have occasionally seen kit like that at Pantip. Good Luck

  12. I personally would hire a truck/taxi to drive me to Ubon Ratchithani then fly to Siem Riep on Airasia. That would the be the fastest, 1000 baht for truck and 3 hour drive. The bus is an option if time and comfort are not your concerns.

You can really fly from Ubon to Siam Reb ? I assume that is via Bangkok ?

  13. but my suspicions are that the girl is deliberately dodging going to see him because she probably assumes another pregnancy test will be awaiting her.

Be prepared for her to disappear for nine months and then show up out of the blue with a baby ....... a borrowed one.

A DNA test would solve that one :)

  14. Very good, I was thinking it might be an immature Brown Kingfisher.

May I tongue in cheek suggest that if there is a Bird Challenge in the Photo competition, that you don't enter that image - I think you were excited to see such a beautiful creature and got any image you could.
