  1. When I first saw the clip, it does indeed look like a weapon.
However, later on in the clip you can see the police examining it and it does have strings and a fret board. Whether he's just stuck them on some kind of homemade weapon that is capable of firing a bullet remains to be seen.

The text quotes him as giving himself up to the police and saying "It's a wooden lute" and they leave it at that.

  2. Here's the clip in question. He goes by the name of MOM TANAT DAEK - something like 'His gluttonous majesty'. Looks luk kreung.
Since the furore in the press, he's come out and said the footage was faked and only a representation of how villagers used to make this dish. He actually used two chickens, one for the shots buried in the pit and the second which they ate was purchased from the market.

What's the chance of that happening on such a big road with little other traffic?
If I were the other witness I would be seeking protection from the police.

That was in Thairath as well. Jaruchart Maadthong, 40, who died, rear-ended another motorcyclist, 50-year-old Somchai Tawino who survived.

Looking at the video, Jaruchart clips the back of Tawino's motorcyle, and one of the motorcycles falls to the ground.

Meanwhile, the other motorcycle with the rider still on it, veers into the central reservation.

According to the Daily News, it was actually Tawino who hit the central reservation and survived.

  4. In น้ำส้ม (orange juice/vinegar etc) the น้ำ sounds short to my ear.

Agree, in ดำน้ำ, the น้ำ sounds long to my ear, as it does when it's on its own น้ำ - water.

  5. There have been problems in the past with quickly rushed-through vaccinations.
In 1976 there was a swine flu outbreak in the US. Forty million US citizens were vaccinated, generating a lot of money for the vaccine manufacturers, but an unfortunate side effect of the vaccine was 500 cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a paralysing neuromuscular disorder, resulting in death from severe pulmonary complications for 25 people. Apparently the vaccine killed more people than the swine flu outbreak did.
Consequently, in Dec 1976, just two months after being introduced, the immunization program was halted.

  6. The USA makes all sorts of difficulties in entering the country if you have a prior conviction.

Would imagine other countries have similar policies.

I would imagine though that just turning up at any border and claiming you're a refugee might get round that as is the norm these days with the West's bizarre open borders policies.

So we create a problem in the UK then we export that problem to a poorer country? Sounds very... colonial.

Personally speaking, in terms of the universality of the respect of human rights, Israel is definitely not a country I would wish the UK to emulate.

And let's not forget - she was born in Britain and is as British as the rest of us who were born there.

She may well have actually been radicalised from abroad via the internet. But she was also radicalised...by her father...

Jihadi schoolgirl's dad took her to hate preacher's rally at 13: Shock admission by man who blamed police when girl fled to join ISIS
The flag-burning father of a runaway British jihadi schoolgirl yesterday admitted taking his daughter to an extremist rally when she was 13.
Abase Hussen – who blamed police for failing to stop his daughter fleeing to join IS earlier this year – conceded the teenager was ‘maybe’ influenced by the rally organised by banned terror group Al-Muhajiroun.

Sensational footage has emerged showing the father of one of the three schoolgirl 'jihadi brides' at the head of an Islamist rally led by hate preacher Anjem Choudary and attended by Michael Adebowale, the killer of soldier Lee Rigby.
The video shows Abase Hussen marching at the front of the demonstrators, behind a banner reading: 'The followers of Mohammed will conquer America'.
