  1. Hi TV,

The title says it all... any idea where I can buy goose down (or duck down) in Bangkok? I only need the feathers however I'm happy to buy the pillows if they are cheap enough...

A previous search on brought up a post that suggested buying them from a hotel or a home pro etc, prices were quoted are being around 2000 a piece... I called the hotels, a lot them won't sell the bedding unless you're staying there, and shop prices so far have been 4000+

Thanks in advance for any help ;)

  2. Thailand roads are not safe.

I repeat for the white people looking to visit here - Thailand roads are not safe.

Every single road in the Kingdom is crazy dangerous. I risk my life driving my car 15 minutes to Macro. At least 10 speeding pickup trucks, buses, or 10-wheelers fly past me on every trip (at 130-150km+).

    Thailand roads are not safe.

Thailand is not safe for many aspects of health and safety... especially the roads. RIP to the victims and their families, no-one deserves to go that way.

But I have to ask why people keep quoting this comment with a 'like'? It clearly implies that only white people can drive, or that white people are the only ones who don't know how dangerous Thailand's roads are. Both of which are rather derogatory claims.

I think you'll find its got more to do with a country's laws and road safety, not the color of someone's skin. I also think you'll find that many people know how dangerous the roads are here, but often they don't have a choice when travelling as most routes, especially short ones, simply don't have flights.

  3. "WiFi users will need to register on the MICT’s website: http://www.mict.go.th. Name, surname, and ID card number are required."

I've always wanted a big brother

You're not required to use it.

BTW, big brother is also watching every time you use an ATM, credit & debit cards, make a phone call, reserve a flight ticket and fly, etc., etc.

If you're really worried about 'Big Brother' you'd better forget about the Internet altogether, stop traveling by any means of transport, stop banking, shopping.

You could go live in the wild, hunt for your lively hood and bed down in a cave, but even then you'll show up on Google earth at some point.

  4. The first few posters have it all figured out so no need to speculate about possibilities. They are very smart these guys donot know the victim or his companion but have it down pat.

Well done... I watch holiday makers and residents drink on antibiotics and against advice from doctors on a regular basis, I couldn't express congenital disease in Thai but could certainly get the concept across!

Slightly off topic, but well worth a mention...

Its fine to drink on antibiotics. That old wives tales comes from the days when antibiotics were commonly administered to treat syphilis... being told not to drink was simply a way to deter people from getting wasted, horny and then having reckless drunken sex whilst still being infectious with the disease.

and before anyone jumps in to refute the above info... discuss your opposing evidence with the source; Stephen Fry, QI @ BBC,

  5. Hi TV followers,

A quick question I know someone will be able to answer.....

I'm looking for a petshop or vets around Nana (as close to suk soi 4 as possible) to buy Hills Prescription Diet cat food. Any ideas? I'm guessing it doesn't necessarily have to be the Hills brand, but our cat has a poor digestive tract which requires repeated visits to the vets unless he eats prescription food. (probably a result of all those spoilt years as a kitten)

Quick search on here turns up decent vets and pet shops on Thong Lor and further away, looking for somewhere a bit closer.

Thanks in advance ladies and gents.

  6. Blimey it would be good when you lot realise that Pattaya. Phuket, Nana and Ko Samui are not the real Thailand.

They are areas of Thailand that the lowest form of pond life congregate (Thai and Foreigner).

And that means Upstanding people like TV posters sometimes get bashed and robbed. :whistling::lol: .

Of course i am not saying that every body who lives in these places are pond life.

There are many, many Good, wholesome Thai's and Foreigner's alike who live in these places. :D

I think you are mistaken. There is no area that can be called 'the real Thailand'. Tourist areas are one aspect, Bangkok another. The north is quite different from the northeast. Remote rural areas are quite different from the provincial ampher muangs. The deep south is different from the rest of the south. Island life differs from mainland life. These differences are all just different aspects of 'the real Thailand'.

While it all may be part of the 'Real Thailand', the original poster was right - a good percentage of the scum hang around in those places. No mention of the North being the same as the South, or rural areas being the same as the city....just simple put...you hang around in these low life places rural, city, island, mainland, wherever, you're gonna see trouble.....Same in any country.

  7. Regarding bins... there are usually 2 ash tray bins outside the skywalk entrance to MBK. One day I noticed that they were missing and then saw two policemen hiding around the corner waiting for a tourist smoker to drop their butt on the floor. They deliberately removed the bins so that they could fine more people...

The bins have been removed from just about everywhere in Bangkok after all the hassle with bombs a few years back. It's an absolute nightmare to try and find any bins in this city.....always have to resort to asking the street vendors...perhaps if they are all getting in on the scam, then I might not be able to do that in future either.

  8. Something is wrong with the reply editior, can't move the cursor, delete, or use the arrow keys, hence the string of random letters and my reply being on top of the quotes....anyways, in response to the reply on my comment,

Governments are indeed supposed to use their power to obtain wealth for the country, and some do that much better than others. But when it comes to the crunch, government officials who don't use their power to obtain some form of personal wealth? I've yet to witness a fair example.

I do not understand the actions of the red shirts (nor did I understand the actions of the yellow), is it just me, or are some democratic policies getting lost in translation here?

For example, the right to protest....brilliant, that's how things got done in the west, but paralyzing and airport and a capital city? way to slash the worth off your economy.

The 'aristocrat-backed government' - errr,,,,name a developed country where the government is not aristocrat-backed???

And this whole Taksin ordeal.. Using this power to obtain wealth.... I thought that's what most people in governments all around the world do?

I nearly agreed 100% with your post ... until I got to the very last sentence.

Most governments in the world obtain wealth for the country, not the PM personally.

  9. I do not understand the actions of the red shirts (nor did I understand the actions of the yellow), is it just me, or are some democratic policies getting lost in translation here?

  10. Wikipedia:

Terrorism is the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion.[1] At present, the International community has been unable to formulate a universally agreed, legally binding, criminal law definition of terrorism.[2][3] Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a lone attack), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (civilians).

Well that paragraph represents both sides of an argument -

So you disagree that it's terrorism because there is no international definition in criminal law?

But you agree it's terrorism because it was a 'systematic' approach to 'perpetrated for an ideological goal', and certainly not a 'lone attack'. Slightly confused....?

Probably a good reason not to quote Wikipedia in anything you write.

  11. Jesus, just one bust!

Makes you wonder how much drug use there really is going on out there.

I must be naive, but I rarely see someone I could point to and say I think they're on drugs. But with this level of volume there must be very widespread use.

Once you've seen someone go down the pan like that, you'll be able to tell from then on. I think that goes for all drugs, once you've witnesses the effects it has on the people close to you, its kinda hard to forget.

Can we not go back to the old days when Paeng Kow White powder heroin No. 4 about 96% percent pure was the drug manufactured in Burma and wholesaled in Bangkok, Chaing Mai and other places in Thailand. Yes those were the days my friend, no yaba no ice, no meth, just the good painkiller.

Haha, you really want that? I guess it does separate those who actually want to be a part of society from those who don't. I do agree though, "no yaba no ice, no meth" no matter what the substitute, must be a good thing.

Meth is a terrible terrible drug, a brain frying paranoia inducing habit that gets people hooked without warning.

  12. Pattaya would be a good place to start. Although I've only been there once and will probably never go there again, it is one of the seediest places I've ever been. Just an observation... :)

Hmmmm if you think Pattaya is seedy, obviously you dont get out much. :D

Err? Don't get out much, perhap's he's been out 'too' much, where else in the world is seedier than the P-town?

Drugs, gambling, prostitution, murderers, scamers, pedophiles, corruption..... name one place in the world (with the exception of cities in war torn nations and those in extreme poverty) where these things are as rife, and as easy-to-come-by for the average 'Joe'? Before you say Cambodia (with which I would have to agree), think about the 'types of tourist' and the shear numbers that visit Pattaya...well worth toning down the rough underbelly don't you think?

Well that would pretty much reduce the population of Pattaya by a GREAT % !!!!

    Exactly.....

  13. It could be one of two things: Dupuytren’s Contracture also known as Morbus Dupuytrenm or Trigger Finger (as already mentioned).

Symptoms for both are quite similar, so it could be quite difficult to diagnose without a trip to an Orthopedic specialist.

Trigger finger is a type of stenosing tenosynovitis in which the sheath around a tendon in a thumb or finger becomes swollen, or a nodule forms on the tendon. It is called trigger finger because when the finger unlocks, it pops back suddenly, as if releasing a trigger on a gun. Symptoms include:

    • The affected digits may become painful to straighten once bent, and may make a soft crackling sound when moved.
    • More than one finger may be affected at a time, though it usually affects the thumb, middle, or ring finger.
    • Trigger finger is usually more pronounced in the morning, or while gripping an object firmly.

Dupuytren’s Contracture is a fixed flexion contracture of the hand where the fingers bend towards the palm and cannot be fully extended (straightened). Symptoms include:

    • The tough connective tissue within one’s hand becomes abnormally thick, which can cause the fingers to curl, and can result in impaired function of the fingers, especially the small and ring fingers.
    • Gradual onset, often beginning as a tender lump in the palm.
    • Over time, pain associated with the condition tends to go away, but tough bands of tissue may develop.

    Hope that helps.

  14. Thai's are just soo ignorant at times! No manners, whatsoever!

Excuse me? Did you say Thais are so ignorant and no manners? I'm not Thai but I call your comment foul, uncalled-for. For all I know Thais relatively polite people, wherever you go, inside the train, in the bus, everywhere, with few exceptions like this train incident where you based your inappropriate comment.

How long have you been here mate? 2 weeks?? Time will see you change your opinion on that especially in bkk.

And how long have you been here mate? 10 years? Must of been a while to make such a generalized derogatory statement. Thai's are culturally different, not ignorant and certainly not without manners.

Que jumping in Thailand is not the civil crime it is back in the west, and this works both ways - ever been rush to the front of a cue for no apparent reason?

But as for as getting on a train goes, its the same here as the rest of the world, Japan, NY, London, Singapore, KL, same deal mate, push push shove, me first.

Anyways, good luck to the injured party, hope she recovers quick.

  15. The marriage won't work. Mine didn't. I'm 65 now and married a 20 year old. It lasted 2 weeks. I left her for her 17 year old sister.

We ran away together because we knew no one would understand, that and her brother being handy with the machete.

All that was 4 years ago and we've a family; three kids and a fourth on the way. Who knows? The OP may be in the same area as me as I paid a 94 k dowry but it was to a couple of her male cousins. I remember them clearly as the night before I finished with my bride of 2 weeks, they unexpectedly turned up on their new motobikes. My wife went on the back of one and told me she was just going to visit her unwell uncle. She came back the next day looking rather tired and must have been up all night taking care of him. Her cousin must have helped too as he looked really whacked when he dropped her off. But she'd made a big mistake. When she'd been to see the sick Uncle I was left alone with her baby sister Miow. And things just kinda happened when she brought me my coco and rinsed my dentures for me. How I remember that long first kiss and how she thought she'd left the tap running.

You see true love can work. This is my 7 th marriage in 5 years in Thailand and I've sired 13 kids, paid a sum of 1.3 m in dowries, built 19 houses, bought 23 assorted cars and pick-ups, over 3,000 head of hua and kwai, 4 prawn farms and 2 chicken farms, a building firm, 3 beauty salons, 2 computer shops, 7 coffee shops cum bakeries, one petol station, 4 7-11s, a wedding photo shop [great for discounts], a mobile phone shop with 3 market outlets, a travelling movie theatre specialising in Chinese Movies, a Honda franchise for motorbikes, several smaller motorbike shops, 11 University scholarships and the sponsorships of three rural schools. Nearly forgot, 4 wheel chairs as Old Ma keeps latching onto passing motorbikes and burning the rubber off the tyres, a motorbike and side car for Old Pa - 3 of, and 6 Walls ice cream franchises. I think that's the latest up to Sept this year but expect somebody somewhere will have a few unpaid bills due. Oh, yes. A pool installation business but I said it would never work and was proved wrong. You have to be careful where you put your money. Did I include the 11 restaurants?

So there are some happy endings. I wish the two youngsters all the best!

Please enlighten me - sarcasm, or complete stupidity?

It's jokes listening to how much 'love' costs people in LOS.

  16. If you want to do you friend a favour, I suggest you don't publicise this too much.

You'd be surprised who reads this forum, and you may give them ideas to start checking on those who didn't renew their visas.

If "the authorities" are doing their jobs correctly (which I doubt), they will not need to waste their personal time reading the stuff on this forum.

Errr??? Any idea how many crimes are solved by following leads and information from the Internet???? I know it might sound stupid but most people are truly the victims of their own demise.....and the Internet is a perfect to begins ones descent.

  17. TBH, I'm getting rather feed up of this........ don't we all love Thailand because of the countries relaxed and easy going way of life?

People do realize that, with a REAL cleanup comes REAL laws that have to be enforced?

If all the laws of the West were imposed over here would the country really be the same?

These things happen everywhere....I'm sure fellow Brits remember The Cook Report? All the scams that the show revealed are all still happening today........mechanics, plumbers, builders, moonlight taxi drivers.... many of them still fleecing the unsuspecting BRITISH public, let alone the immigrants who just expect England to be super expensive.

I'm certainly not condoning the actions of those who choose to rip people off. But (here we go, lol) TIT, if you don't wanna take people's advice, then learn the hard way.....(that's speaking from experience)

    :)

  18. I completely understand that some innocent business and property owners may indeed get caught up in this laughable 'crack down'...

But I assume, I'm also right in thinking that many of these farang owned businesses have done things on the sly, bent the rules, broken the law....

Every single post regarding drug offenses brings on the 'Can't do the time, don't do the crime' crowd....Whats so different about this? Do some thing against the law, get caught, pay the price.

All us expats know the law.....why moan when you get caught for breaking it?

Once again, I don't mean to offend anyone here, especially those legitmate business owners that might get caught up in this nonsense. But for those who opted to go down a road that wasn't clear in the first place, in a country where anything goes, then found a loop hole to satisfy your needs, it's probably not going to end pretty is it now?
