  1. People with one or two days or weeks overstay will not have a problem re-entering Thailand. People that overstay more than one month, for what ever reason should get a new passport at their earliest opportunity, if they want to come back as a serious resident.

How would your home country feel about someone overstaying their visa for 6 months and then wanting to return as a resident?

    Good point, Badbanker

  2. I was granted residency last year. Excellent instructions given here, and to let you know that l was working in Phuket at the time, but it was advised to apply personally in Bangkok (together with your lawyer). Phuket Immigration were very helpful, but advised it easier due to the number of times you will have to visit for paperwork, interview, Thai language test etc etc.

Best bet, get a good lawyer, apply here in Bangkok but make sure that you have paid up in full your monthly and income tax payments, ready to apply for a 'criminal record' in your home country and a bit of advise would be to let your Embassy know in advance and get a contact who can help you when you require to obtain certain certificates from your home country.

    Good luck !

Is there any expiry date for the 'no criminal record' document ?. ie : how long is it valid for ?

  3. Hi everyone, I am staying somewhere near Bangkok. I have a TOT line but was told that it is not within the adsl coverage area. Does it mean that I will not be able to use adsl services at all ?

    Can someone please advise ?

If really no choice, I will have to sell this house and move to Udon. Does anyone know if there is adsl available in Udon ?

    Thanks

  4. We do extensions of stay based on marriage, on average three times a day. No problems. They'll just smile ( The smile of needing to say "No" , to that couple) if you show money, its all about income. ( After Oct 1st, 2006 with new applicants)

Sunbelt, how about those that are already on yearly extension before Oct 1st ? Are they allowed to continue with the 400k or must they use the 40k monthly income proof ?

  5. 1. I am about to resign from my current job. Can I appy for an O Type Visa based on being married to a Thai without having to leave the country?

Yes. However if this is a multi-entry, no need. If it's a extension of stay based on business, then you have 7 days to change the visa or leave the country.

    2. I do not have a fixed income coming into Thailand every month (40k new rules 1 Oct 06). I do have plenty of funds in my Thai account. What can I do to prove I have the finance to support my wife ?

You can get a change to a non -O before Nov 15th for 90 days.

However you or your wife needs to show 40K salary per month to get the extension of stay based on marriage in 90 days. Having funds in the bank does not work (as you did not have an extension of stay prior to Oct. 1st.

Sunbelt, if say the wife manage to get a new job, just started and it shows 40k monthly salary, does it work ? The question is it is a new job.

    Thanks
