Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine were on WHO list till August. Some countries dropped them from their lists recently. Some are still using. So there ate researches and good clinical results.

Thailand claimed at the beginning of february, to cure covid using tamiflu, anti-flu medicine, at several patients. This medicine is made in thailand by rhe government pharmaceutical organisation and is not expensive. For flu is also used as prophylactic.

re hydroxichloroquine, you need to attach your sources with valid, peer reviewed clinical trials showing it to be effective (there are no such valid, peer reviewed research papers, don't waste your time). Your suggestion that the WHO were somehow all gung-ho about HCQ as late as August seems unlikely as the following link is from the WHO's very own website, it's research to download from *June* for your reading pleasure, it's a full 18 pages long so if it's TL;DR for you, in summary it says "HCQ isn't proven to be effective": https://www.who.int/publications/m/item/targeted-update-safety-and-efficacy-of-hydroxychloroquine-or-chloroquine-for-treatment-of-covid-19

On your second statement, am not sure what you are even suggesting re Tamiflu as it's been perfectly clear since approximately forever that it is not effective against covid 19, and how could it be? Maybe you have a vague memory of Thai doctors back in February having hit a handful of covid patients with Tamiflu and a bunch of HIV anti-retrovirals and they didn't die. Since then, all those medical approaches have proven clinically ineffective.

  2. It would of course be much smarter to sell the car as it's yours and then just tell her.

But go ahead and crush it, it's this sort of batsh!t crazy stuff that makes Thai Visa forums such an essential use of bandwidth.

I for one look forward to your video and then the subsequent video that your daughter posts of your house on fire and you with a live monitor lizard rammed up your butt.

What airline has a girl waiting with the pass? I've flown Cathay 8 times and JAL once in business the last 3 years. They give out the Premium Lane pass on the plane along with the immigration form.

    ....

Trying to remember, for sure Finnair and Sri Lankan. Too many others I've arrived in Biz Class so cannot recall modus operandi of all... includes Air Canada, Cathay, Turkish, Austrian, Malaysian to name a few.

I suppose some will fly with the pass on board already, some do not.

  4. It's not a hard water vs. soft water problem, nor a chlorine taste issue, the water just has a bit of a dirt taste.

I was only curious to explore people's fears of microbes. At least from my tap, it seems safe in that respect.

It's awesome that you are performing an experiment for the benefit of humankind on the presence, or lack, of microbes in the water and I for one can barely contain my excitement to learn what the long term health benefits of heavy metals and other less obvious contaminants are to human organs. Do post updates over the next few years.

As for the quote above, I almost fell off my chair. A bit of dirt taste. So not "clean taste" then. That's the taste of prime Bangkok sewage inadequately treated.

Here's a clue, has the Director of the Bangkok Water Authority (or whoever is in charge, if anyone is in charge actually) ever come out in public declaring that he and his family, including his beloved children, are drinking water straight from the tap?

If you think a country that believes safety standards are for pussies might actually send potable water through to its population, well, you've been drinking that water too long.

  5. It's a nice problem to have.

Study the various investment tools online, its all there, you just need to read and understand. If you have a friend in the finance business, buy him a drink and have a long talk. Here are a couple of tips for what they're worth:

    1) money in the bank will not keep up with inflation, ie it will likely shrink in value, furthermore, even fixed term deposits don't pay great interest. A good place to park money safely while figuring out what to do though as someone already pointed out.

    2) Diversify across investment types, currencies and markets

    3) Seek one point of investment with lowest possible costs (take a look at the swissquote website for example)

    4) Based on your age and financial needs, create the right weighting on bonds, shares, real estate etc

Some relatively high yield areas to invest which spring to mind: REITs (HK, SGP, London, NYC), also, buy a couple of studios to rent out (potential ROI to seek 4% - 7%+). I would have those two investment vehicles in the portfolio alongside some low cost index tracker funds (S&P, Nasdaq, FTSE, DAX, SGP, HSI etc) and some higher yield monthly distribution unit trusts (bond and stock funds mix 'em up).

The list is almost endless and I understand your confusion, but you really just need to sit down and study this stuff on the internet and talk with friends.

    Hope that helps.

  6. Voted 9 after 6.5 years.

Many of the already stated negatives are true to a certain extent. But everywhere sucks a bit from time to time. I've lived for quite some time in a number of diverse places to include Russia, The States, Europe Various, Middle East and nothing comes close to the batsh*t insane, neon-lit craziness that is the delightful Thailand (and I don't live in Pattaya and I am happily married).

The three key aspects to achieve your happiness anywhere would surely be financial stability, emotional situation and health. If any of those three are lacking, you're gonna have a bad time...I suppose more can be added.

    Food: superb

    House: cheap

Parties with friends: from quiet to embarrassingly uncontrolled

Wife and friends: diversified, pleasant, caring and fun

    Golf: cheap

If you can't afford to live here, you certainly can't afford to go back and live at home. Seen the price of utilities back in your Western hometown recently? Price of beer anyone? How about that noodle shop down your soi selling noodles from 30-50 THB. And the noodle seller is happy, she's smiling. The turd in the kebab shop in Bolton is grimacing at you as you hand over your fiver...

Redtape/bureaucracy, I hate that too, no excuse for that but it doesn't get me down.

There are probably a few types of expat (more than I list below, feel free to expand):

    1) Working expat on a big salary or successfully self employed

    2) Retired expat trying to live on the pension/savings which are barely sufficient

    3) Retired expat with good to very good pension and savings living the good life

    4) Working expat on a borderline crap salary (I met someone last night who says he earns 70-80KB in BKK at 40 years old)

But with all of the above, it's what you make out of it. The simple fact is that the fewest people actually understand their own finances and where it can take them. The other two aspects, health and emotions are quite capable of destroying the strongest financial situation. And this, I fear, is where many find themselves.

I wish all of you a happy 2014 in Thailand. The Land of Smiles (and the occasional smirk).

  7. Having been through a fair few airports in my time, they vary greatly and not one is seemlessly perfect.

Sticking just to the big hitters, the finest in terms of passenger flow planning, shopping and eating would be Hong Kong and Singapore.

If you want to look at the "ought to know better" culprits, ie those from whom you'd expect a better effort then look no further than the Federal Republic of Vaguely Connected Airport Terminals which calls itself Heathrow or how about JFK for uninspired, hope-you-don't-get-delayed drabness because if you get stuck there it's like being in the waiting room of teenage accesories, donuts and burger hell. It's been mentioned before but a big tongue needs to be stuck out at CdG Paris for being the ugliest, most poorly designed major airport in the whole history of forever. In France no less!

Yes, so they're older than BKK and I'm not going to defend BKK's Suvarnaphum because they have messed up on so many levels and for so many reasons, tea-money springs to mind but it's not that big of a disaster. Walks can be long, immigration queues can be long, food can be pricey (hey, get some fish n chips at Harry Ramsdens at Heathrow, but bring a mortgage guarantee...).

Best airport on the planet? Zurich.

  8. Well my in-depth contacts :whistling: in this case don't appear to be able yield any truly juicy stuff on this story  but just got a call from my gf who spoke with the girl involved (the jewellery store owner) whose side of the story goes, very uninterestingly I might add, like this:

They were drinking in said bar until fairly late [like that's something new in Pattaya....] and according to her the conversation wasn't about them having to leave, the confrontation allegedly began because the small time mafia types who own that and another couple of bars said something rude to the girls [ladies] and this had to be dealt with by the guys [whatever that means] and it ended up in fisticuffs and everyone's just fine. So thanks for the concern [ok I made that last little bit up]

What is maybe quite interesting is that the ladies on the end of the beating are rather well connected locally so there could be some "afters" which is always more fun. All sounds like some small time local mafia stuff on the simmer.

  9. What's that got to do with anything? You don't want people to come in here and begin posting?

I am not posting anything contentious, just trying to add a little to the discussion. Like I said, I shall just try to get some more info and post it here, granted that info would be rather one-sided as it'll come from the "victims" but it's a contribution nonetheless no? Fact is I simply see that I may have a bit of usefulness to contribute and I fancied doing so.

Claiming personal knowledge of the situation requires a leap of faith that is easier to take if there is a track record to back it up. A person who hasn't posted a peep for 2 years suddenly appears to champion the good nature of their "Friends" - suspicious, however true it might be. :whistling:

Point taken Som Tum Tiger but they are not "friends", they are aquaintances as I said and I am not championing their good nature. I am really not interested in whether they are the good guys or the bad guys in this story, I just happen to know them and my girlfriend is trying to get the low-down from their side (as she knows the jewellery shop owner rather well). That's it, really. If I get more on the story, I'll post it.

  10. "After Ms Tida made her complaints the manager said " I don't care how big you are around here, I am the mafia. Not even the police dares to mess with me and my people. Who the hell do you think you are?"."

    :whistling:

Around mid-day on the 9th February 2011 Police General Nantawut Suwanlaorng, Police Officials Pattaya received complaints from Mr. Jestin Elekjoseph, 28, and Mr. Johnny Wittel ,28, both Canadian magazine models, along with their friends, Mr. Keri Chill 27, Ms. Tida Thannawan 45, Ms. Sopa Thanawan 43, Ms. Nuarat Samsaen 43.

So the old(er) women had some younger gigs, Canadian magazine models for undeveloped bodies and the gigs started to look at the ping pong balls and flying bananas. :jap:

the couple I know have been together for about 4 or 5 years

  11. I know some of them, the male model in the pic, Justin (Jestin? <deleted>?), is an aquaintance as is his girfriend also pictured.

Besides the injuries they said they also felt sad as this was their first time in Pattaya, and it had turned out like this
that's kinda nonsense 'cos he's defo there alot of the time and his girlfriend's shop is there too.... classy reporting that.

I happen to know him as a nice polite and well behaved guy - as is his girlfriend. What happened that evening of course I cannot tell. Shall try to get some more from the horses mouth so to speak....from the pic of the beaten up lady and the lady seated I reckon I also know who they are and which restaurant they own. Anyway all I'm saying is maybe I can get some more of the story and if it's fit to print, shall post here.

A poster who has been a member of TV for 2+ years with only 4 posts. Yeah you have credibility here....:whistling:
