  1. BOI cost is generally the same, occasionally more if they force you to pay to convert the previous valid visa you already paid for.

Plane tickets and hotel sounds like including visa with work permit (often done).

20k for visa+work permit is a good price likely done internally without outside help.

20k for just work permit ok price through service company, or if done in house from the sticks and needing days to get to labour office.

  2. I am also interested in this topic. I assume the OP is a non-US citizen, the company in question is a off-shore HK limited, and the OP would become tax resident only in TH.

What if the OP find an intermediate thai company (with enough thai employees) willing to provide a work permit for a fee?

OP would hire thai company services from HK company with 1 time cost including 1 year of minimum salary + work permit + extension of stay cost + overhead fee.

The thai company would then provide work permit and repay minimum monthly salary. I would expect actual annual costs for OP to be then below 100K...

PS: not sure why the elite visa has been proposed, it does not allow to work and is only for people who do not live in Thailand.

Funny that's the last post before mine since...

I run a Thai company with soon issued BOI approval meaning we will have spare work permits available beyond our needs. All legal, real Thai staff etc and could possibly hire a new employee to meet the work demands of our new HK customer...

Wouldn't be worth our while less than around 10k per month, but could be paid monthly on a 1 year contract. Would need to figure out exact costs and rates.

Message me if interested in discussing, would be a month or so before can start.

  3. they have made you new offer and its yours to take or not, if you decline the new contract, you have effectively resigned

    No, totally wrong.

If you decline the new offer the old one is as valid as ever. That's like saying if you decline a promotion you have resigned, same logic, equally wrong, never the case.

Based on this tot could raise prices of Internet to 1 million baht per month despite signed agreements and we have to pay or cancel? Not even in Thailand!

When a contract ends, renegotiation is optional, but mid term it's binding. And unless employment was time based, contracts not over until fired, quit or made redundant.

If you decline the new offer they have to either fire you (with valid reason), pay you redundancy if they want you gone (rate set by length of service), force you to quit (illegal harassment) or keep you on your current agreement.

Failure to follow those options and (assuming you are working legally) the department of labour will defend you (even as foreigner) and take the company to court (for free) if needed.

  4. You need tax and social paid for employees more than the employees themselves.

But biggest concern is not that. It's that a website owner is legally responsible for all content on their site whether their own or not. So if there is any user generated content at all (articles, comments etc) be very careful since laws on less majeste and defamation are very strict.

If it wasn't for that I might offer company use for your site but given the potential risks no chance.

  5. Loads of similar threads across all providers since the last really heavy rain which coincided with a single gateway announcement.

Personally my 3bb has been good the whole time, home and work. Last 2 days have been very unreliable, Ok at times but often unusable despite appearing connected. Both home and work affected and another 3bb user nearby. Though all on the same main road so could be localised.

  6. Work permit fine on non O marriage.

    Not allowed non O retirement.

Im unsure about non O dependant.

Also fine on Non B and Non BOI.

Think but no first hand experience that allowed on Non I visa too (investment).

So certainly no truth in non O being cancelled when work permit issued.

And citizenship...not studied recently but could certainly apply after 3 years in certain situations as little as a year ago (not heard any changes). For the uneligable yes you needed a longish stint under PR before applying.

  7. This scenario used be simple (but illegal) to stay since technically visa ends with job but no way to check.

Now immigration etc are more computerised it is harder.

Know several people who were stopped and not let out at border since they had a valid visa and no reentry. Airport home maybe easier.

In this case needed to email a letter of termination from company dated that day while they waited at border.

  8. Utf8 will do it, but need to make sure it is utf8 every step of the route from final html output (html charset attribute) to the database tables and every transport/processing step in between.

Im linux not ms so cant give specifics but fairly sure these steps will lead you towards the solution.

  9. Assuming your own connection

    ...

Go to computer and login to router.

Copy password and email/share it to phone.

Paste from phone into wifi settings, only needs doing once... job done

Alternatively if your own router change wifi pass.

If not your own wifi, find a thai, 1 time, type password and done. Alternatively send yourself the pass and copy paste as already suggested.

  10. You must all be on windows.... this is no surprise, was announced many years ago and was removed from chrome on linux a year ago or so, got a feeling mac too.

Its not specifically java thats disabled but the extension format that java uses. If java ever release a browser plugin for chromes new format java will be back. Until then firefox for the few tasks that need it.

Look into nnapi and pnapi which are old and new formats (spelt wrong but similar I think!)

  11. For best results run a cable to a new wireless access point closer to your desired coverage area. Ethernet always better than wifi in real usage.

Wireless repeater an option for increased range but decreased performance. Easy but not ideal.

Since you get signal but weak the 2nd best option above repeater and below cabling is increase range of existing device.

Look for a router that supports tomato/ddwrt firmware which allow boosting power(but dont put it too high). Get some higher dbi antennas. Consider relocating router slightly closer or less concrete to your corner. Make sure running wireless N protocol or better, ideally multiband.

Asus NT12-HP covers all that for less than 2k but may need help installing tomato and setting up for optimum performance.

  12. Companies often have hundreds of people on the same ip and no websites have a problem....

    Normal usage will be fine.

Worst case trigger a security warning due to too much on 1 ip but any site that triggers a warning like that will have a simple verification process to get past it.

If any site automatically logs you in via ip address then you dont want to use it. Facebook and 99.9999% of the web certainly doesnt, fundamental security flaw. User account logins are tracked via cookies that are placed on a specific computer not ip. The guy who regularly is logged into his wifes facebook is because she logs in on the same machine, not because of the same ip.

I can even log into multiple accounts of the same website multiple times from a single computer using different browsers or incognito modes.... ip nothing to do with it.

  13. I have previously used leased lines with speeds around 2MB and costs between 10-20k per month.

For anyone who thinks speed=bandwidth this is slow.

But bandwidth is not speed, it is simultaneous capacity and rarely needed for standard business use.

Speed is latency and that is what you get with a leased line, along with stability that survives the school kids home surge every day.

Consumer grade fibre lines are improving, sure, but if you need business critical connections go for business quality lines.
