  1. Entering by sea is the same as by land. You would get a 15 day visa exempt entry.

Not sure how many entries you could do by sea.

what happens do you just take your boat outside Thai territorial waters and then bring it back again to constitute a departure and re-entry and who checks on all that?laugh.png

You have to clear immigration the same as anywhere else and also clear the boat out of Thailand at the Harbour office. Failure to do that will give you major problems at the next country you call at as there will be no exit stamps and port clearance......

  2. Let's remember there was a lot of fog/ haze around on Saturday.... so that could a have been a contributing factor to finding the right road down especially in the dark... very few roads up there are marked with signs.... and some areas are very rough going even in daylight...

If I remember the Peak Eye Restaurant is up from the Lipa Noi area, ( past the Army barracks) so could have been a case of the turning the wrong way out of the restaurant ... rather going straight down to the ring road...that can be very difficult even in good day light conditions...

Kudos to the volunteer rescue teams who do all this kind of work! thumbsup.gifclap2.gifSome times they have to deal with far worse outcomes.....

Not in maenam Jimmy; Koh Samui Hash House harriers were running on the mountaintops above soi2 and Soi3 on Saturday; clear views and no one got lost!!

  3. Not exactly wrong but surely he can use a more intelligent statement. The perpetractor/s will need to buy the TNT and the detonator from locals as it will not be possible and silly to attempt to bring from external means. TNT can then be melted down and inserted in the pipe. Can't the investigator identify the type of TNT used and narrow down the source? TNT is used in Thailand by the military and mining. Rather than some simple analysis deduction by any layman, this idiot talk about getting around.

You could drive pretty much anything into Thailand using the Southern borders....no vehicle or even proper passenger checks. Add to that the coast line......lots of boats out there....

I recommend to do this if you want peace and quiet from utter ridiculous comments.

Great idea!........... Now for the rest of the Glee club!

    Have you seen this......http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/one-tourist-murder-suspect-now-arrested-another-run

    posted just 10 minutes ago......

The police have arrested a suspect in the murder of two British tourists in Koh Tao and are still hunting for a second suspect who has escaped into Bangkok.

Eighth Region Police Command commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen identified the first suspect as Mon.

He is the brother of a village headman in Koh Tao.

He was arrested after evidence which police collected were examined and proved he was involved, he said.

He also said another suspect is also a son of that village headman. But he has already to Bangkok.

He said both suspects were captured by CCTV cameras and the police have gathered enough evidence to implicate them in the murders.

He said the southern police were coordinating with the metropolitan police to hunt him down, and expected to apprehend him today.

The southern police chief also assured the public that there was no arrest of scapegoats in this murder case as it now is a focal attention of the world.

He also dismissed any suggestion of local mafias or influential people that could twist the investigation with promise that local influence would pose no obstacle to the police investigation.

Instead the police will eliminate all these mafias, he said.

Meanwhile a police source said the police are also looking into the cooperation of those who helped to arrange the suspect to escape. They also will be arrested.

  5. The news article makes sense.

Thailand has no need for submarines

Correct, the Gulf of Thailand is unsuitable for submarine operations because of its shallow depth. It therefore follows that any "aggressor" would also know this and not commit Submarines to the Gulf.

The Anderman side is deeper but what major facilities and trade routes are 'in danger 'there? Phuket is the only deep water port on that side I believe. Enhanced anti-submarine capable surface vessels are a better investment and deterent than costly Submarines.

  6. I saw this many time but just know the history

Hardly news, its is uncovered for about 6 months of every year then covered again as the long-shore drift changes with the prevailing monsoon....I think its a boiler but whether its from a ship or a land based machine that became a victim of the quite serious coastal erosion on the North Shore I do not know. The fringing reef is about 2-300 m out at this point so unlikely to be from a ship as there would other wreckage around as any vessel would have to have been driven across the reef....

  7. Why don't they just fog the place regularly like they do in Singapore, then there wouldn't be this problem. Also get rid of all the damn soi dogs at the same time.

Actually Singapore has and has always had a serious Dengue problem; they also have very good PR....just take a look at their own Government statistics here http://www.dengue.gov.sg/subject.asp?id=74 or just Google Dengue Fever-Singapore and look!!

Hmmmmmm, Strange how I've worked in Singapore many times before, and never even seen 1 mosquito. Also lived here for many years and seen 1000's of mosquito's.

I lived and worked in Singapore for 4 years.....you don't find them in airports or shopping malls or offices but pretty well every where else.....especially on and around construction sites.

  9. So it took the pickup 6 hours to cover 300km. I've got one just like that!

Quite reasonable, an average speed of 50 kph. The investigators say that it should not have taken more than three hours so that would require an average speed of 100 kph which, to achieve, would require speeds of 120 to 140 much of the time. Since the national speed limit is 90 kph these investigators are suggesting that the vehicle should have been speeding, the sure fire way to draw the attention of the Highway Police.

Highway police????? I have driven that route many times...Songkla to Donsak....3+ hours (including an Amazon Coffee stop)....number of highway police cars seen....ZERO

  10. A "reputable elephant caretaker" that allowed this crap to happen, that's a far stretch. Should have said reputable purse caretaker

Haw haw haw, the baby elephant had a great day out in an apparently comforting, obviously 'well fed' and welcoming atmosphere among like minded sentient beings, I've seen many of them ...they won't leave ! ..they want more !

You miserable misguided elephant tree hugger, the 'purse caretaker' was apparently adequately funded or this wouldn't

    taken place.

Elephants aren't as stupid as you want them to be, display more intelligence than you have in your post. They like to work, can provenly paint well and take documented rightful action against those who mistreat them - which didn't happen here- and display happiness, as is proven in the photograph in Post #1.

There are many mistreated elephants on the street and elsewhere but this isn't one of them. Refine your stupidity and define the rightful targets of animal mistreatment and not rely on online hearsay and gossip to display your proven drivel.

( You're obviously jealous of the party you weren't invited to - for very good reason - you're a party pooper )

maybe you should check this out before you sound off.....

  11. No insurance, ok error.....it's times like these I would like to see the British government step in and help one of our own for once!

I have said for a long time that people should not be allowed to fly to foreign countries, without proof of valid Insurance, unless its within the EEC.

Your correct about the British Government, but if they do that, then the door is wide open.

Governments do not have any money, except that raised by various taxes......so why should i as a tax payer foot the bill???

  12. As I said, nothing new with the expected 30'000 tourists for the full moon party, that's since

years petty much the same, a little bit up, a little bit down, depends on the season but the

estimated 30 Million baht income for the economy astonishes me a bit.

Looking at the TAT figures from 2 years ago, the average spending per tourist per day

was around 4'200 THB. Now Koh Phangan is still mainly a backpacker island, but during

the 3 days of the average party tourist on the island, that might probably be considerate

higher. So lets assume, a good average for party people would be around 6'500THB for

    the three days

(3 days accommodation <high season> around 2400 THB, food 900 THB, motorbike 450 THB, transport

to and from party 500 THB, entry to party 100 THB, Alcohol 1200 THB, Ferry to and from the island 1000 THB)

As there are already at least 25'000 rooms booked for this full moon party and 30'000 are

expected, that would more likely generate around 160 to 200 million THB. So I wonder ......

If there is only 30 million baht flowing in to the local economy in who's pockets are the

    other 130 Million baht flowing?

Ah yes......good question and these parties benefit who.....not the Thai economy to that extent......

  13. Well considering the high tides and storms these last few weeks most beaches around the island are not looking their best right now.... and another huge wind storm hitting Maenam area right now... probably other areas too...?

The best beach I have seen in the last week is west of Hau Thanon.... but that could have changed by now... the south end seems a bit calmer... during north and east winds on exposed beaches!

Calmer weather would be nice..we had a short glimpse of that yesterday.....wink.png

It can't come from Thailand. Everytime this happens the Thai locals always say "It comes from Cambodia" !

You must live under a rock somewhere.....this is normal! Samui has 2 monsoon seasons; October-April is the North-East Monsoon where the wind is predominantly from the east (N/E -S/E) so everything in the sea will be pushed, washed in a Westerly direction. Beaches that face east and North will get all of this washed up......April-Sept is the South West Monsoon so everything gets washed towards Cambodia and the West and South facing beaches get the rubbish flotsom and jetsom from the West and the North and East facing beaches are clean!! At the moment we are finding beach loungers from Koh Phagnan resorts on Baan Tai beach!!

The strong N/E winds and longshoredrift from the east have made this particularly bad. Remember, everything you put in the sea will wash up somewhere eventually!!

  14. Scapegoat or not...remains to be seen. Thai Police can't be trusted in most of the cases, agreed. But so much hatred and bitterness towards Thai people in general in this topic.....unbelievable. It really makes me wonder what are you still doing in this country.

There's a difference between hating police and hating Thai people. My thai girlfriend is laughing at this Burmese 'arrest' alongside me.

...and my Thai wife said 10 days ago that the only reason it was taking so long was because they were trying to find a fall-guy (her words) to protect the 'powerful ' people on the Island.....now she's saying "Told you so...!!!"
