No they do not, if everything is as it should and above board. There must be something more that has not been revealed yet, to this story.
exactly this .
Nationality plays a big role and currently westerners facing more hassles than ever before .

not your problem until you deal with immigration then they won't submit your request and will want fine you too and have no interest in chasing the property owner lol .

funnily enough if you ask most thai embassies what visa visit your wife for few weeks they say tourist .
I use tourist for most things, it's states leisure use and that could be some time with family, going to a gym for few months, doing photography, bird spotting (including bar birds perhaps !) going to the dentist, watching a movie or going to the dentist (medical tourism)
Current play at BKK airports is getting ridiculous and more incompetence from high ranks controlling BKK IO's than well planned effect of pollicy changes ...- 2

Pretty sh1tty how they handle these cases.
in circumstances like this I don't see why they don't offer 7 day transit stamp, forcing cases like this out is rather harsh and wasting IMO time and money and thailand credibility .

I would love revive that brit comedian character harry enfield Loadsa Money for a sketch at swampy airport 555
See if his wad thick enough 555
swampy and dmk currently pretty rough going for big national airports, they need precise rules and educated trained staff, current debacle p1551ng everyone off including the chinese.
chinese spent big on property and now tenant contract rules, tm30 and lack of ease entering country even annoying them and if they do get in they scared to death of boats mini vans and toilet attendants ????

My school also told me 2 people from Chiang Mai were denied for 2nd year ED visas. The issue seems to be the 2nd year part.
Any idea why the tourist visa applicants were denied?
I could only here one and that because had previous setv and done full stay on it .
Previous person was german lady and was surprised at her refusal as looked pretty genuine with a rucksack etc, not a poor hippy bum and was in late 40's at a guess, was setv but couldn't catch full details. They getting fussy, don't make effort and expense come yangon and expect it be a breeze, information suggesting that well out of date .

It's the scale of it I am trying to work out, and that's what is prone to easily being distorted .
Again, not suggesting people don't get rejected. I have seen them take a guy with my own eyes at DMK about a year ago. Not sure if he got rejected or what happened after, but they took him from the desk and walked him somewhere else.
Well I witnessed and been directly involved in some pretty horrible levels of professionalism at bkk airports and a land border .
People here go on about rules and your rights but potentially you got no rights as next to impossible enforce much of them and as anyone knows rules mean nothing here as bend them as they like.
I witnessed a black french man getting all sorts of grief and what they calling him in thai language pretty shocking, poor guy didn't have a chance mitigate as simply blanked him when he pressing his circumstances/rights and all he got back was insults .
Airports on whole use to be more western acceptable standards (less coruption, sensible staff and rules) but that has changed and it not so much changes but lack of rule clarity and unprofessionalism of most of the IO's that the issue .
Amazes me that most of these OI's can't even speak half decent english, don't expect them be great but you would expect be part of job requirements ! English not my first language but it the worlds universal language unless in thailand !Seems current main higher ranking IO requirement is being a nationalist with a potty mouth ....

I assure you that he is getting visa exempts, because I specifically inquired about that (I did not believe it when he told me, but he showed me the passport stamps). He truly believes it is his "charming demeanor" (direct quote) that is allowing him to pull it off. I have warned him he is one IO away from denial. The point is that CNX does appear to be a little more "forgiving" than DMK or BKK.
You friend possibly doing visa exempt then getting 60 day extension based on having a wife .
2 land border crossing rule relates to visa exempt only ...
No hassle option is elite, everything else is messy hassle with varying success rate pending on luck and due diligence applied ...

I also had a bad experience with a Tom in the Samsung service centre in Pattaya
Maybe a relative 555 , but on serious note the higher ranking tom at don muang is quite a nasty character.
I work for company doing IT equipment and spent a few days in that airport and it quite a drastic change to what was even 18 months ago .
I think a jew would of had better treatment with fake documents trying exit germany in 1942 .- 2

Savan consulate 1yr multi be your best bet I expect,
60 day extension on your 30 day visa exempt and repeat that not bad easy option but if likely stay well over 6 months the type o multi entry be safest bet .

was this don muang airport ? have a seriously bad higher ranking tom IO at that airport .
Can be very unpleasant as they hard to deal with due to poor mental attitude and no sensible reasoning or deduction .- 2

Worth a try but the current trend is if you got recent stay of 90+ it no go and they offer you 30 day transit visa.
They pretty unfriendly at the counter, especially the guy, not much chance of mitigating your case but never try never know .
seems you in savan it worth a try as maybe more lenient on a quiet non visa van run day as it because of van volume and increased troublesome van service users that caused the changes .

Coming from the US, I'll be using an METV, plan to stay at least six months.
This time I don't want to commit to a return date or airport.
Booked a one way Delta flight to Chiang Mai through Expedia ($565 BZN to CNX) last leg is Korean Air ... is that where I might encounter a problem for no proof of onward travel or would that happen at the first flight?
This will be 4 years in a row that I've done 6 months in Thailand (always with a round trip ticket) and the passport will show that. Would that history be sufficient to prevent any hassles?
Have thought about buying a throw-away ticket, but having trouble finding any cheap flights six months from my scheduled entry.
Wondering whether date shown on the 'proof of travel ticket' has to be somewhere in the range of 6 months from entry?
Thanks,
DS
you will have a METV visa so won't be required to have an onward flight .

you could do cambodia visa online and they email you visa acceptance document you print out then you simply got a evisa stamp at any evisa entry point, was simple and smart and been in use around 10 years, why thailand didn't do similar is beyond logic ????
As for flights I wondering if airlines requesting onward booking these days for those with setv as it was never required before by airlines if you had a valid visa as thailand only requested onward flights for visa exempt entry ...

what a messy system, I use to do setv quite a bit for trips to thailand but simply won't bother any more as not worth the hassle or offers good value for the ever growing charges .
Why they could not use a proper simple evisa like cambodia been doing for about a decade where you get a visa simply at designated entry points is beyond logic .
It basically a huge step backwards in efficiency and made setv more hassle than it worth in many cases.I rarely pre book accommodation and generally never book onward flight as like keep it fully flexible and make my mind up closer to the time ....
On a side note do airline checkin want see onward flight for setv or they still happy allow boarding if you got a setv .

From main bangkok airport I never had issue and had this happen 3 times, last time they more fussy and supervisor got called but he just gave me shirty remark on overstay and be thankful to officer at desk for requesting it be overlooked.
Just had hand written note next exist stamp stating 1 day overstay, was in reality 6hrs .
Few years back I not give it econd thought, these days I would not worry too much but is potential for ballache as they getting more fussy ...

The O-X is 2x5years but have to have £83000 in a Thai bank, insurance attached is not cheap, and you would need to read the small print to see if it would provide any cover at all! Also the amount that has to remain in the bank.
The O-A Visa is about £22k (in your UK bank), available from London, 1 year Multi then enter, extend and get a multi re-entry permit, for another year, then repeat. Rumored that in may have insurance attached in future, perhaps not the best value & check the small print type of concept. Ok at the moment it would seem.
Then there is the get a Non-O SE marriage visa, go to Thailand extend stay permission (multi-entry permit option) married to Thai National. 40k+THB monthly or equivalent, SWIFT transferred to a Thai bank, (even if you are not there) obviously from The last calendar years earnings or from savings, or keep 400K (~£11k) in the bank in Thailand
Elite Visa £14k 5 years
Elite Visa £58k 20 years 4x5years ME....
elite 20yr can be about half your suggested cost .
