i've said this many times on this forum, keep your money in your home bank account, when in thailand go to booth with best exchange rate and buy as much thai baht as you want using your visa debit card, you get that rate and no other charges, basically its the same as bringing cash

I can't remember the name of the place but it's on Soi 13 / 4, half way up on left from beach road, last bar before Penthouse hotel.
Great roasts, chicken beef, pork, lamb with full trimmings for about 250.
Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand.
That'd be Palmers and you are right, the roasts and food in general there are really good and have been for about the last 20 years!.
Was there last week and have to say a big thumbs down, absolutely awful

Thanks again, will bring passport, I don't think they are mini branches in central festival, guess I'll find out when I get there, cheers for the help
-
Thanks Pib, I'll go to central festival in pattaya as all the banks are positioned beside each other as ask them 1 by 1 if they do counter withdrawal for visa debit
-
Curious if I can use my visa debit from back home (ireland) to make a cash withdrawal in Siam bank and then lodge the money into my Siam account, I know I can use an atm machine but don't really want to have to repeat the process 5 days running (5x20,000) doesn't have to be Siam bank, have accounts with most of the banks here (nothing in them mind you hehe) any answers much appreciated

I packaged up a second hand phone yesterday to post from Ireland to Thailand. I went to my local post office here in Dublin and requested a registered delivery, the girl asked what was in the package, when I told her she said "cannot send because Thai customs won't allow because of battery in phone" . Sounds strange to me, anyone any knowledge of same, many thanks in advance

It says;
ส่งของให้แล้วน้าจ้า มีว่านชัดมกลูกผสมน้ำผึ้งแบบชง ไปด้วย นะ อร่อย ดีด้วย
I've sent you something, it's an infusion of herbs (it mentions some fruit or plant that I'm not sure about) and honey. It's delicious.
สบายดีมั๊ย? เงียบหายไปเลยน่ะ
How are you? You're quiet/disappeared (you're not responding).
thanks mate its nothing sinister, understand now, cheers

big thumbs up from me, i love bangkok, its a city of life and soul, talking to other people here in ireland probably 80% hate bkk and 20% love it, the 80% had no idea of where to go and how the city operates, most knew about sky train but no one knew about mrt or river cruises etc. I think there's no place on earth like bkk once you get to know it

Thanks falcon, going to take a stroll to soi 8 for some lunch now. Nice hotel but wouldn't be up there with some of the other 5 star hotels in bangkok, i'd rate it as an excellent 4 star but not sure it warrants its 5 stars
-
Sounds good, thanks for the reply
-
Yes it's called Grand Sukhumvit, it's on soi 6, 17,500 baht seems cheap to me also if indeed it rates as 5 stars
-
Booked 5 star mystery hotel with latestays and got this hotel, 17,500 without breakfast for 7 nights, do this live up to its 5 star rating by latestays ?

Anyone recommend a good place to watch the Ireland v Wales followed by Fulham v Man U, was in Elmurphys this morning and enquired, they will be showing all the sport tonight but will also have live band playing. Anyone know the set up here or should I look elsewhere ?

Cheers for that Darren

I'm coming to Hua Him tomorrow for a few days, 4 people in total, the other 3 are fine eating thai food together but I don't eat thai, I'm looking for up to date information on where I can eat good quality western food, cost not really a factor but obviously don't want high prices for low quality, thanks in advance for your replies

Ethihad airways and I think one other middle-eastern fly direct to Dublin
With Etihad you have a stop over in Abu Dhabi
u do have a stopover ... but i find Etihad a top notch airline and usually fly the bkk-abu dhabi-dub route ... i actually appreciate the chance to stretch my legs for a while after being sat in an airplane for more than 6 hours.
also stopovers with Etihad tend to be relatively short !!
agree with you there. etihad get some stick on the forums and haven't really got a high rating on airline reviews but i have always found them to be good. as you said the stopover is short and abu dhabi airport isn't to bad. also on the dub - abu dhabi route you can get lucky with lots of empty seats and gives you a chance to stretch out
I like Etihad also but am here this time with BA, departed Dublin 12th for a month at 700 euro, Etihad were just over 1000 around these dates with 1 stop over, with 2 stop overs incl. Manchester was around 900 euro, I would have paid a little extra because as I said I like Etihad but not 300 euro extra, also it annoys we when checking flights with Etihad that taking 3 flights is cheaper than taking the 2 flights (maybe not always the case, might be due to time of the year)

Cherry's is quite well known and popular, especially for their international buffet nights.Tried here Saturday night, quite disappointed, tried cherry's tonight and really impressed with quality of food and value for money

As far as you not liking La Taverna, well they aren't exactly hurting for business, so no worries.
I know jingthing, I wish I could write food reviews like some of you guys, for me it's a simple like or not like a restaurant, but some of the information on TV is invaluable as I'm a fussy eater when I'm outside my home country of Ireland

La Taverna del Passatore
Italian Restaurant, Italian Style
A casual open air Italian bistro style shophouse restaurant. Italian owned and run. Italian customers. Good signs, right? Yes, indeed.
Menu includes appetizers, pastas 200 bahtish plus range (wide choice of pastas including Tagliatelle, an extensive and authentic sophisticated range of sauces, main meat dishes served with choice of potato (pork, fish, chicken, some beef) 200 to 300 bahtish range, and desserts like tiramisu and panacotta (100 bahtish).
Dishes come with some Italian bread.
Also side dishes like spinach, 80 baht.
Also featured: DAILY specials, generally a special of the night pasta and special of the night meat offering.
Location: off Soi Buakow, head south from Soi Lengkee about one block. On the corner to to the right is bar girl cum restaurant called the BIG EASY. Also there is a sign pointing down that soi about the Italian restaurant. Go down that soi a bit, the place is on the right.
I think open for lunch and dinner. Can't confirm exact hours.

Working for Etihad I often get the Dublin flights from Abu Dhabi. We have two a day. We have about 15 different flights both morning and evening and connecting to these flights and the average amount of passengers connecting to Dublin is about 30 to 40 from Bangkok.
I don't see a non stop from any airline in the near future to Dublin.
Probably conclusive flightcrew, but if there were 40 every day on Etihad, Emirates, BA, Air France, Lufthansa, KLM, Quantas, Thai Airways, Swiss Air, China Airlines, etc...... If priced right do you not think they could fill 1 flight per day, also young Irish going to Australia have to take minimum 3 flights unless they go through the UAE, there's huge numbers heading to Australia and stopping in Thailand and surrounding countries for a month or so, I honestly think it would be commercially viable. By the way any chance of an upgrade next time I use Etihad (joking)

Does anyone know a good honest financial advisor in yasthon/ubon for a brief inexpensive consultation, Thai speaking, the gf has many policies on the go, I’ve tried to explain most of these are great if your working as they’d be tax deductible but to no avail, most of the insurance investments would make more in a low interested savings account, anyone know a good Thai financial advisor for a short consultation to advise her, me telling her is falling on deaf ears
