I don't know this guy, just got talking to him when he was faxing everything over to his lawyer. He appeared a gentle type of guy to me, early 50's and really seemed to be concerned. He said the US embassy said it was an immigration problem and they couldn't get involved. He was arrested and questioned and then released, but on bail. He appeared genuine to me, but who knows. His lawyer was very laid back about it all from what I could gather. But I only heard his side of the story, he was certainly missing the stamp as he showed me!

  2. A weeks ago I had an American come into my internet shop to use the fax. He started to tell me about a story of him going to Cambodia to renew his visa, the first time he had done this. He said he went out of Thailand, got a Cambodian stamp, came back into Thailand, and his passport wasn't stamped. I asked how did this happen. He said he came back into Thailand, there were immigration officers standing around and chating, no one approached or stopped him, so he just walked through thinking it was ok. I've seen his passport as he was faxing copies to his lawyer, and there was a Cambodian stamp, and no Thai stamp.

After he realised what was wrong he went to immigration in Bangkok and told them what had happened. They didn't believe him and he was arrested. They said it was impossible for this to happen. He was released on bail and was in contact with the US embassy who said that they couldn't help him, so he has found a lawyer now to fight his case. I haven't spoken to him for 2 weeks, the last I heard was the lawyer had looked at all the documents and had said, typically, no problem don't worry, immigration are just trying to cover up thier mistake.

    Unbelievable?

  3. Hello everyone,

I saw that thaivisa launched this forum yesterday while a guest looking at the site. I decided to join in after seeing that. I am out of the closet and have been since I was 22 years old, except for 6 years of marriage in between (don't ask!), and I am now 41. I now live with my Thai boyfriend and work here in Thailand, and I am hoping that this forum is going to be as good and informative as the others on this site.

    With best wishes

  4. You'll be a catch!!!

Becareful of who you are matched with. There are some genuine guys here but a lot are out for what they can get. If you have that in the back of your mind then you should be ok.

Just out of interest what will you do when you are here, for work I mean?

  5. Hello

This is my first posting here, and I have just come back today from getting my Thai driving licence in Pattaya. I went there in a group of nine people from Pattaya ex pats club. We were well prepared by the club prior to our visit about what to take with us, all the photocopies etc. I had an International Driving Permit and was applying for both a car and bike licence. Easy I was told. I had less problems than others, but I still had problems. They wouldn't give me a bike licence, as the international permit didn't have a picture of a bike on it. So I had to take a written test (for the bike only). This test was typed by a typewriter and in very poor English. The questions weren't understandable, and even the ones that were, you couldn't understand the answers. I failed the test, of course and was told I had to re-take it 2 hours later. I explained I would fail again as the English was very poor. I got nowhere so I decided to cut my loses and take the car licence only. Everyone in my group had problems and were not issued everything they wanted. The Americans had problems with thier US licences and 2 had to take the whole test. Some got bike licences and not cars, the Europeans were getting cars and not bikes, it was a real mess. 2 refused to take the test and walked out with nothing.

My advice is turn up and expect there to be problems.
