Thai-Finnish couple suspected of pimping for decades
rattlesnake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Pretty much, with one notable difference though, they think they are something special because they made it to Farangland. -
Thai-Finnish couple suspected of pimping for decades
rattlesnake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That article portrays these girls as victims. What I have seen within the Thai masseuse community in my hometown in France is quite different. Most of them are ex-bargirls with a plan: they get a guy to bring them over on a marriage visa, then look for a better "deal" once there. The vast majority of them immediately hook up with a replacement dude once they separate from their initial spouse. The replacement dude isn't usually stupid, quickly realises what he's dealing with and ends it. That's how they end up alone, and then solely congregate with like-minded Thai girls, working in massage parlors (and occasionally making sushis in supermarkets), performing sex acts in back rooms for 50 euro bills which they squander on alcohol, Thai food (expensive in Europe) and lottery tickets. They are often foul-mouthed, jealous little b**ches with the maturity of a 12 year-old, have a drinking problem, no prospects whatsoever and no desire to go back to Thailand as that would be a big loss of face considering they tell everyone back home they are living the high life in Farangland. Never been to Finland but I don't see why it would be any different there. -

That would be "over two decades". "For two decades" would put us in 2034. -

Same in France. -
The answer has to be political: Nobody sets foot on Thai soil unless they have appropriate insurance. Also a campaign (with posters at the airport and in lots of different places) saying if you don't have a motorcycle licence from your home country, appropriately converted into an international licence, then you can't drive. Also enforce, i.e. systematically stop and fine foreigners without helmets, as well all contravening parties involved (e.g. for a driver caught without a licence, check where the bike comes from and also fine the owner of the bike: rental shop, friend…). Yeah, wishful thinking. But it's the only way.

Thai schools to re-introduce disease precautions as Covid cases rise
rattlesnake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
They've all had multiple shots Indeed. We were told the only way out of this was to multiple-inject the vast majority of the population. People complied to this. So where is the problem? -
Abnormal heat in Thailand - how do you cope?
rattlesnake replied to Dario's topic in Health and Medicine
This month of April was not abnormal at all in terms of heat (mid-30s Celcius). The worst April I have known was in Ubon, 2014, 40+ degrees Celcius. There is no "abnormal heat wave" despite the media propaganda. -
It would be good to know the vaccination status of the 8,382 people infected and treated at hospitals, as well as their age, any underlying conditions and BMI.

My firiend wants to buy a beer bar.
rattlesnake replied to ozimoron's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Most don't make that much. I lived in Pattaya for a few years and from what I've seen, those who open bars do it because they want to live here, perhaps "live the dream" etc., but don't actually have experience with starting and developing a business, which takes years of hard work, regardless of how "fun" the setting is. Factor in the language and cultural barrier, the girlfriend who come into (and significantly complicate) the equation and you have an 80% chance that two years down the road, the establishment is either closed or sold. The turnover in Pattaya is staggering. -

A guy I knew in France never drank in his own bar. He didn't have as much fun but he's one of the very few bar owners I've known who didnt have a drinking problem. -
Local expat needs help after motorbike incident
rattlesnake replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Absolutely. Also open grids on the ground. I narrowly avoided one in Pattaya once, and when I drove through there again one week later it was still there. And I walked straight through one on the Suvarnabhumi parking lot a few years ago, a gap on the floor about 15 cm wide. I was walking fast and looking up in search of the entrance. Hurt my leg bad, thought it was broken and I was going to miss my flight but luckily not, got fixed at the airport hospital and off I went. But I did tell the staff to please get the gap fixed, plenty of motorbikes on that parking lot… Dangling cables too, love those. -

As mentioned above, 1,000,000 km and 0 accidents. I'll pass on the lecture about road safety. -

I got my car and motorcycle licences in France, respectively in 1999 and 2007. I was also a professional driver in my younger years and have a lot of experience on European and Thai roads, approximately 1 million km. Never had an accident, although I am aware it can happen to anyone anytime. And as the topic is about insurance, I will just add that I have unlimited coverage and repatriation insurance (a must-have IMO). There is nothing racist about what I said. Although nothing beats experience, receiving proper training is absolutely fundamental and this is a big flaw in the Thai driving licence system. There aren't enough actual driving hours, and the licence is delivered by your own instructor at the end of the course, not by an independent third party. -

Spare me your lecture. My wife got her licence in Thailand in 2016 and I can confirm it is an absolute joke, just listen to the instructor for a week, nod, wai, do a few spins around a track and off you go. Thankfully she had me to actually teach her to drive. The test is a major problem in Thailand. -

"Given the terrible driving standards the death rate on Thai roads is actually quite low. " Absolutely agree. -

How does one fail a Thai driving test? A child would pass it. -
The question I asked was: "But all these people catching Covid have had multiple jabs of the safe and effective vaccine, so they will be fine, right? Or am I missing something?" The obvious point of the question being "where is the problem, considering most people have had their life-saving jabs?". You are the one who replied citing the CDC and purported differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

"Importantly, there is no direct connection between a fee paid for an application and the review outcome for that application." You'd have to be incredibly naive to believe that.
-
Indeed, as you say, the COVID and other vaccines are primarily regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A substantial portion of their money comes from user fees paid by the pharmaceutical companies they regulate: https://www.fda.gov/about-fda/fda-basics/fact-sheet-fda-glance "Human Drugs regulatory activities account for 33 percent of FDA’s budget; 65 percent of these activities are paid for by industry user fees." Pharma money is everywhere and this is an obvious concern for anyone capable of basic independent thinking.

The CDC is paid by Pfizer. https://ashpublications.org/ashclinicalnews/news/4797/CDC-Pressed-to-Acknowledge-Industry-Funding
