  1. If you can't find anything to your liking in Thailand you might try Taunggyi in Myanmar. Approx 4700' above sea level. Capital of Shan State so similar language, culture and cuisine. Many speakers of English.  Another alternative would be Baguio City in Republic of Philippines. 5000' above sea level. Very pleasant weather. English widely spoken. Excellent cuisine. All road signs in Roman characters. A 50km drive down spectacular mountain roads to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

  2. Assuming you have both the desire and the funds to continue study why not assure the U. that next semester you will enroll in enough courses to become a full time student. You and your faculty advisor could visit the dean of your faculty and explain that you took a light course load to be certain you could successfully do university level work at a Thai university. Universities want students to remain and be successful.

  3. What some clever soul needs to invent is an attractive (to dogs) food that contains a very mild tranquilizer and a fertility control agent. Calm down some of the more exuberant canine behaviour and limit the currently rampant reproduction rates of soi dogs.

  4. It'll no doubt be thrown out of court. But this brave young girl will almost certainly never speak up again in future.

The mine company is the lowest of the low. They themselves should be fined and ordered to compensate the girl when its found she did nothing wrong

Just maybe, the mining company has not polluted the local river and is within it's right to sue the girl.

However, if it can be proven that pollution has taken place then she can counter sue them for the damage caused to the environment affecting peoples lives adversely.

Are posters implying that this legislation is exclusive to Thailand and not going on in courts all over the world - especially in the US!!

How preposterous is it that someone who left a pub drunk as a skunk punched someone in the face for no good reason at all, ending up suing the bar for serving him too many drinks!! He won the case.

Here is just some of the litigation on the subject.

    • Many states hold commercial vendors of alcohol, such as bars, taverns and package stores responsible for injury caused by drunk patrons
    • Laws in most states require the injured person suing a commercial alcohol vendor to prove that the serving of alcohol was a "proximate cause" of the injury
    • Commercial vendors are liable for injuries caused by an intoxicated customer if they serve liquor to him after he was visibly intoxicated

Shame on the US for having such stupid laws!!

It is called the "Dram Shop Act" and was established in England centuries ago. The US inherited it from England along with its entire legal system (except in Louisiana.)

  5. Perhaps this is simply step 1 in the conversion of learning English as a lingua franca to learning Chinese for the same purpose. If present trends continue (always a difficult thing to predict) Thailand will be over run with millions and millions of Chinese who will be whisked via high speed rail to Vientiane then taxi across the bridge to Thailand. No need to expand the airports.

  6. The reason the US government is broke is because high income individuals and corporations are able to influence (buy) an adequate number of Members of Congress to provide them with exceptionally advantageous tax treatment. That includes very favorable rates as well as a multiplicity of exemptions and legalized dodges which in some cases can reduce tax to zero or even less. Typical of sociopaths, these high income individuals and corporations care nothing about the public good caring only for themselves. Unless the people of the US somehow manage to elect a majority Congress that cares about public good there will be no change for the better and there will be an inexorable decline to ultimate collapse. History is not encouraging.
