Can you share that video?  I live just down the street from that light and see these tour buses passing on the left, in the shoulder.  Running red lights (I've seen 2 do this in the past few days only).  Try going past Nong Nooch Gardens around 5PM.  They just go right into the road.  I've seen some really nasty accidents there.  All it would take is a light.

Right there at Huay Yai is a police box.  They do nothing but collect fines from scooters from time to time.  Worthless.

I won't ride my scooter on Suk around here.  Too many accidents.  Too many vehicles going at very high speed.  Too crazy.

I wish the best for these poor kids.  One big reason, as you say, to not ride a scooter here on roads like this.  Just too dangerous.

Couldn't agree more craigt3365.  I live in Najomtien close to that junction. That part of Suk road is just crazy dangerous particularly at junctions and U- turns.

They know everything about Thailand and are very streetwise , obviously not or they would have queried the bill from the start . When you troll round these areas you need to be aware , which they weren't. They didn't deserve to be assaulted but maybe they will be a bit more polite next time they encounter a problem with their bill . Sometimes it's just better to pay and never frequent that bar again . Saves on the hospital bills .

That's for sure. There's only a hiding for nothing to get into an argument over a bill in a bar.

  3. Yes. The UOB bank can arrange mortgages for foreigners on freehold condominiums sold with the foreign ownership certificate.

The loan can be arranged in Thailand but is actually done through their headquarters in Singapore.

The foreigner needs to be legally working in Thailand. (Salaried and WP).

If I remember correctly the minimum loan is 3MB.

Google "UOB international property loans" for more information.

My daughter said the same at a new foreign school we tried. Three expat teachers, all young, admitted they didn't know how to quell the ruckus and keep better order. Moved back to her original school, much happier.

My wife is a teacher. She was often used as one of the "enforcers" with a disruptive class. Never had to resort to violence, shouting and screaming. In the UAE she was asked to help out when kids' school at lot of teacher illness absence. They also soon asked her to "assist" some of the younger teachers in keeping order.

Teaching is a profession that requires developing teaching skill as well as having sufficient subject knowledge.

That's why I give so many who post they want to "come here and teach English" with no qualifications and/or experience such a hard time.

Agreed. Fear was the only method that kept order when I was at school.

  5. Ali dead but Thai TV makes "The Greatest" howler yet

BANGKOK: -- Thai TV reporting the death of boxing legend Muhammad Ali showed a picture of Will Smith instead.

The picture of Hollywood star Will Smith appeared as a graphic on Channel 3 and 3 HD with the caption underneath: "Muhammad Ali Dead".

As presenter Kitti Singhapat gravely intoned the sad news on Saturday Thai time about the death in America of the legend known as "The Greatest", the image of Will Smith appeared. It was a still from the movie "Ali" (2001) in which Smith played the boxer in a biopic depicting ten years of his epic career from 1964 to 1974 reported Manager Online.

Anchor Kitti said in a rambling explanation on Twitter that sometimes stills were taken from video by his production team and no mistake like this had been made in the previous eight years on his show (Khaw Miti 3D - 3D News). However he added: "As the man ultimately responsible I am very sorry this happened and I will take care to see that it does not happen again".

Despite being nearly 35 years since Ali retired his face was still one of the most recognizable images on the planet and his death has dominated the news for days.

In April 2013 TV Channel 5 executives had to make a groveling apology after an image of Hollywood actress Meryl Streep from the movie "The Iron Lady" (2011) was used after legendary British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher had died.

The ignorance of these people is truly appalling.

  6. There is nothing on that form I don`t mind answering, I have nothing to hide and I guess that anyone who hesitates to give the information or only part information or deliberately gives incorrect information will come under suspicion. In fact I am glad the police may have a quick reference about me in Thailand, it shows I am being a good boy, behaving myself a and decent resizen. It also makes things more difficult for wanted criminals and may be terrorists entering the country. In the end I think it`s more for the benefit of all then against us.

Absolutely, nothing wrong with that. There could not be anything sinister in their motives.

When they ask you to put a little star on your chest it will be to help identify you to get priority treatment at hospitals.

and the ambulances will come directly to your house to pick you up, and they can take you to a nice special

room just for farang which has special air con to keep you cooler for your stay. History has shown Governments only

do things like this to help their citizens.

Just because you are paranoid it doesn't mean they are not out to get you.

No need to be paranoid. They are out to get you. That's a fact.

  7. Welcome to 1984. This is a most naive document that will do absolutely nothing to assist the authorities. I will not put in the names of my dead parents, only Mummy and Daddy. And in the bank account section I will use one of my accounts in another country as it does not stipulate it must be a local bank. And as for frequently visited places my local 7-11 and the noodle shop are all they will get. None of it is inaccurate, so what can they do.

No big deal here. They get your bank details at visa extension times. Plus your whereabouts at 90 day report times. Everyone I know has my email. I'm sure if they ask about where go it doesn't mean Joe's bar rather if you travel a lot. Far as I am concerned this is non issue. Try immigrating to Australia, The U S ,Canada. That is very hard by comparison.

Yes but the US, Canada, UK and Australia have their data protection laws and if confidential information is leaked then heads can roll for their breach of security. But no one has faith that the information we give up to Thai immigration is in competent safe hands, and that`s the main worry I think. The new form doesn`t worry me it`s where that and where all the other stuff goes that concerns me.
The Thai theory of "you think too much" comes to mind. They may be right. Why spend your life worrying about what might happen?

    Because it might happen :-)

  8. This is a very worrying esculation.

I'll give then email account names, bank account details, even my car details - they have all that already. I don't have facebook or line.

Next they will be demanding passwords - I'll be leaving Thailand then.

i dont have fb or line or whatever either..............lol. im a pre-historic caveman!

Good for you. I returned them blank and there was no issue.

  9. Just two comments; one, if you live in another country you abide by their rules or leave.

Two, I just wish they had similar rules in the UK, where long stay visitors seem to wander around anonymous and not always for the good of the Country. In these days of extremism and terrorism, it's hardly surprising that the Authorities, of whatever colour are taking a hard line with non-citizens.

You have a point but IMHO it's too intrusive.

  10. Came here 30 years ago and still loving it.

I too came to Pattaya 30 years ago. Started in Jomtien, where there was nothing...just the beach and all for me. (but that lasted less than 2 years)

Once Pattaya connected with Jomtien; the mafia from all over the world arrived; the traffic became like Bangkok; and the prices just went up and up and up. Had to put up with the Royal Jomtien fire which killed 100+, damaged my property, but no compensation. Then they built their airconditioning plant next to my house...90/100decibels day and night (F...you. we're OK!). it was time to call it a day and move to isaan.

    Best move I ever made.

I remember the Royal Jomtien Hotel fire. Absolutely horrible.

The in-laws live in Na Jomtien which is further South and is not as built up and still nice. I'm not sure how long it will stay that way because developers are moving in.

The traffic congestion on Sukhumvit is hell though on any long weekend.

  11. Regarding entertainment/nightlife, I miss the 1990's. That was the decade of my twenties; and I am glad I spent most of that decade in Thailand. There was no 2 am curfew and it was fun to be able to go bar hopping and clubbing sometimes till early morning. Also, there was no 2 pm to 5 pm alcohol-selling ban for stores and some other venues, back then.

When the 2 am curfew came into effect in the very late 90's (1999 I think), most people had thought it wouldn't last long but sadly, it has lasted till now. Yes, there are some venues that manage to stay open till morning but anyway, there are very few of them; and that means lack of choice.

Anyway, nightlife is still not too bad in Thailand but a lot less fun than it was in the 90's.

Many people think this new ban wouldn't be enforced effectively or wouldn't last long; however, the sad fact is that it will be enforced to some degree at least, and that it is probably here to stay.

    Ditto.

    The good old days JJ!

  12. As a resident of Muang Ake which is the housing estate that surrounds Rangsit University I can understand the law on the alcohol ban and the discretionary enforcement upon certain establishments.

IMHO many posters are missing the point and I can understand that to them the law seems frivolous and somewhat unreasonable.

This law has been brought about because of the number of fatal shootings of students this year.

The infamous Bungalow venue is closed now - there have been 2 fatal shootings here that I know about this year.oo

These have not been shootings of student on student but on the dek weng gangs who also go to the bars. Rich UnI kids angry with the dek weng kids on their turf and dek weng kids jealous of the guys who seem to have it all. Alcohol, testosterone and jai ron don't mix and tempers flare quickly.

This is the problem that I see here and it is this the police want to stop.
