  1. My wífe who has the power of attorney from the Metropolitan Police in my Ampur. I have been life threatening sick with heart attacks, heart failure, stokes, enlarged prostate and largely bed-ridden for the last year. I originally had a retirement visa but could not make the trip to Bangkok to have a new statement of my income, so I have had under treatment visa for 90 day periods that I pay 1900 baht for. The office boys in Alan continually insult her and disregard the doctors papers and I am being treated in 3 different Thai hospitals and have papers and brain scans from them. In the beginning they told me I can continue on with this visa until I am better. The police have also visited my home. Now they say it has been to long on under treatment visas. They even advised me not to have a visa at all by the General in question. There is one large fat office boy who insults my wife, Now I will try and leave this country forever in June. Now the question I am asking is should I report these office workers to the proper authorities or not? They have given today to my wife what they say is the last 90 day visa. I already have a ticket but they do not know that. I am really angry and tired of them because they are Thai and my wife is Isaan Khmen, and that is what I think is the problem. also they have asked me for 5000 baht which I only gave 3000 and they were happy. Is it the same everywhere, or only in Alanyaprathet?

  2. :whistling: My Dutch friend 75 year old had a multiply visa for one year and never understood that he had to leave Thailand every 90 days. How much is the fine? He entered Thailand in March 2, 2010 and hopes to extend his stay for 15 months by leaving before the visa finished, but he didn't understand that he was supposed to cross the border every 90 days. He lives not far from Alanyaprathet. I advised him to go to the Immigratïon Office in Alanya and clear this problem up instead of going direct to the border. -so now he is wondering how ´much the Immigration will ask of him. :ermm:
  3. :ermm: I don't know if anybody else is having the same problems as me. For the last two months nt Visa and Mastercard do not work in the ATM's in Alanyaprathet. I must go inside the bank and receive money. Nobody seems to know about it and the bank says its bad contact with my bank in Europe. If anybody can clue me in to what is happening please do.
  4. Again, the extension can only be granted with the signature of a genuine physician. As long as he certifies you are under his direct care and cannot travel outside the Kingdom due to health reasons, you will be permitted to stay.

If treatment ends or your doctor does not agree to continue signing extensions, then you will have to legitimately arrange a retirement or other long-stay visa.

Thank You All at Sunbelt. I don't think I will be able to travel at all due to heart and lung disease and hypertonia that is an increase pressue against the muscle and nerves and blood hypertension. I have been advised by the local police general and the Men and women of Thai Immigration that nobody is going to arrest me for any visa problem because they would inherit my wife's job of looking after me. Perhaps that is outside the law, but some consideration is there for my plight. Have hOSPITAL PAPERS FROM Thai and European hospitals about my condition that could end up as a vegetable in distant future.

  5. :)

:D Thanks for your info, I really appreciate it. Like General MacArthur said that 'Old soldiers never die they only fade away' Its the fading that I think about as it was added that a sick man would not be arrested without a visa at home hanging to the umbical cord of oxygen from 50 years smoking Thai cigarettes!

:D To Siam legal, what happens after 90 days? What happens after 90 days? Can my stay be prolong indefinite? I have been in Thailand almost 20 years and have had all types of visas, tourist, non-o, marriage extension, and retirement. My last visa was a retirement visa. I have the cash but can't make it to BKK to have a new pension paper from my Embassy due to bad health. I am 70 yrs old now. Can you advise me a little?

  6. :) now I have a hand written letter from the General of the Metropolitian police in my ampur and two type written pages meaning not sure but it gives my wife rights, and¨a letter from the Head man in my village saying he knowns of my illness. It wil work I am sure with three witnesses. But the General said in the future just come to him and not get a new visa I wonder about a lot. I know him for many years. I write this for other old soldier or veterans about what they can do in the future if confronted with similar situations. Thank you . Salaam Alchiem.
  7. Your wife should visit Immigration with the doctors letter and explain the situation. Am sure some arrangement can be found.

:) Aye there is always some arrangement with the Immigration, but this time no money or whisky as I was advised in HG in Bangkok I have been here 20 odd years and first off I thought wonders about Thailand, biut know they want to bring back the demomogue to ruin the place. The Immigration look down on my wife because she is born in Thailand but her mother tongue is Khmer.

Thanks Lopburi for the information as she will go today. but she doesn't take there power trips and has her own power trips to play in the footsy game with there bureaucrates that have bought there positions.

Ron, I sympathize with your medical condition and the problems of age. I'm 60 now, and I know my days are coming, too.

But I wonder if part of the problem is your attitude? "demomogue to ruin the place"...what has that got to do with getting your visa extension?

I can, perhaps, believe the issue with the Cambodian language, but if your wife is playing "her own power trips", well there you go...another attitude problem mixed into the situation.

Exactly which people at immigration do you think have "bought their positions". My spouse is a Thai bureaucrat, and trust me, there was no buying of a position. Perhaps the higher-ups, I don't know about that level, but not the counter people you are likely to encounter.

I think maybe you'all a wee bit naive about the thai system

  9. :) I am 70 years old and have retirement visa and they are requiring me to go to Bangkok for a new pension paper. The head Doctor at my hospital wrote me a paper that it is dangerous to my life if I travel. I have serious heart and lung disease along with muscle and never disorders. The Head doctor said I will not need a visa as the Immigration police could not force out me out of bed to have a new visa for one year by law. Is this true? I'm Not faking it and my embassy doesn't take mail for the retirement paper. What shall I do? I have been here years and am married and live on the Cambodian border near Alanyaprathert
  10. :) Do I need yet a new pension paper. I am 70 years old married to a Thai Woman and have have many one year extension showing close to the 65.000 depending on the exchange rate. I have bad health and under treatment at a local jungle hospital. Have heart, lung, muscle and nerve diasease document from Europe and a pharmacy of medicine. Last time they told me to take an ambulance to Bangkok to have a new pension paper. I live on Cambodian border. Any advise from the fellows that have been around lke me for 20 years. I came here young an strong now old and broken.
  11. That's one of the reasons we need this website. It isn't easy to keep track of the specific enforcement policies at your specific immigration office. That applies of course to all kinds of visa issues including policies of Thai embassies and consulates.

maybe coffee or tea has something to do with it all? I am not sure about that really.

  12. New letters have been required by Bangkok for the last few years but at least one office this year has told people they can use original 3 years so I would have a copy and ask when making extension of stay if they can accept that and if you can use your original next year (or for how many years).

For OP I would ask early or risk making another trip - I suspect they will want to see an original/current letter this year.

what I don't understand is that they have always ónly taken the copy of the original from me and giving my back my orginal, saying they fax to BKK anyway. I use Alanyaprathet Office.

  13. "there seems to be changes all the time about the retirement visa and its renewal."

I haven't had the same experience as you, and I'd love to know what has changed in the past 7 years that you've gotten your retirement visa renewed.

Every time that I used the "pension" route, I've used a conservative estimate. For example, if the official exchange rate was 34 THB/1USB, I used 33THB/1USD. At the Immigration office, they'd use the real rate.

Since pensions can change every year, I'd expect that Immigration would require an updated statement - it certainly has no bearing on "every new government have differing views about us". Lighten up.

O' Aye, you must be in that millionairs club. A perfect upright expat without a secret past. Well thank God there a people liike you!

  14. I think that is technically correct. Being here for decades doesn't change the rules, each annual application is a new one. I suppose its possible you can run across a softy who gives a veteran a break now and then.

Anyway, I have a question for you.

What exchange rate do you use to determine the Thai bank value of your pension? Is there a specific immigration rule on where to find the official accepted by immigration exchange rate? This can be a critical issue for some, especially those using the combo method (pension plus bank account).

I don't really know, as I sort of lost it here in Thailand sorry but I think it the official bank of thailand rate.

  15. :) there seems to be changes all the time about the retirement visa and its renewal. I have had one year extensions for 7 years. Last year it was only Pension paper from Bangkok Embassy and nothing about bank accounts or letters. Is it the same again for next year? Its very tiresome surely every new government have differing views about us. Some people say you need a new pension paper every year now. I hold three old pension papers from my embassy with about the same amount of money only changing with exchange rates. Now 69 years old . Been 20 years in Thailand now. One uptight officer told me it doesn't matter how long you have been in Thailand. I am surely from a different cultural background.
