  1. MFA has a passport office in Khon Kaen:

    Temporary passport Office: Khon Kaen

    Khon Kaen Provincial Center

    Thanon Sun Ratchakarn KHON KAEN

    Tel. 0-4324-2707

    Fax. 0-4324-3441

:o Aye, me misses should renew her passport soon. I had heard that a Thai can renew passport at the Post Office with the one-stop service. Is that on, or only incorrect information? I live in District Office (Ampur) village near Alanyaprathet where there is a large Post Office there. Now I'm wondering about renewal of Thai Passport there. I go there at times for Rong Klue market on the border, so I could stop off there. I recall some time back that I read on this forum that it was possible for renewal at a one-stop service center. What do you'all think? :D

  2. In rgards to the artical about grilling Imigration officials about changes, why not ask why Pattaya officers are so willing to do things ( for a price ) that Bangkok will not do and says are illegal? It could make things a bit more consistant.

Mr. Fly better sip up and don't rock the boat, and try to understand Asian government employees. A gift goes along way surely they help people who otherwise would have no where to turn but leave their beloved scenes whatever they might be. :o The idear is to give a little and not always take from this unusual Kingdom of various life-styles. :D

  3. :o I'm asking for a friend that must have non-imm O single entry next week. What is the whole picture for that obtaining in Savannakhet? He has Thai wife and Thai baby with his name and all the required bank and marriage papers, etc. He is 47 yrs old from Swiss. Can he obtain the Laos visa in Muktahan? Is there a bridge now in Muktahan to Laos? He'll take his car to Muktahan with wife and baby, then cross with them leaving vehicle in Muktahan. Is that advisable? If anybody out there can help with this he would appreciate it.
  4. :o I really enjoyed reading all the entries about how people relate to Thailand and Khon Thai, but I must add that I have observed that young Thai men carry a lot of repressed violence with their cultural bagage. When it comes out, it's always to the death, and not until one cries uncle! I've been in many places in Thailand both tourist areas and villages. Now, I have been staying with Khmer people in lower Isan, and observed when a party is held either a wedding or disco dance at the local wat, there is a large presence of well-armed police. Aye, the youngsters know martial arts and like to fight. Recently, there was a wedding across my road of a girl who married a boy from another village. I saw the police carry away four times young boys badly hurt to the hospital. Due to my seemingly fortune compared to other family members I have heard threats of violence against my wife and one time against me, but that was only jealous gossip. For me, I take the low profile and have had only trouble with German falangs, mostly while on a piss-up. I never once had trouble with Thai people not counting the occasional problems with Pattaya's taxi drivers over rip-off prices. My wife has told me that they had said very bad things in Thai and she was afraid of violence. I look for trouble only after drinking spirits a lot, but generally a peace man but not without aggression that came with my American cultural suitcases. Thank you for you reading of my lollygaging!

the lastest prices where I am at the Cambodian border was 450 a load on a 6 wheel truck, and a young Brit I know paid 500 baht a load driving 8 k's away. 6 years back I filled land at 300 a load on a 6 wheeler. That's what all the locals are paying also. Diesel is way up now. This is lower Isan here and the land is mostly clay and sand. Also those prices includes a tractor, and then a few bottles of Chang. Aye, the 6 wheelers are big and about 80% full. It's expensive I understand judging from what others have written here, but that's what it's going for here, even for the local Khmen.
  6. :o I'm due to renew my marriage one year extension for the 4th time next year and I have recently moved into my own house in the same town. For the past two renewals I have used the same Embassy certificate with my former address, so I am wondering if I will need a new Embassy Income certifate with my current address, or can I continue on with the old paper. They told me due to my advanced age, 65 that I was able to use the same certificate on previous extension visits to Alanyaprathet where I live close by to that office. Now by law would I need a new certificate with my current address on it, or not? Thank you for your wonderful cooperation in the past to my questions. It's a great forum!
  7. :o I signed up for Ji-net one year dial-up and for three weeks it worked okay, but now it's increasingly difficult to log-in and stay online for more than 20 minutes. I used their temporary speed up packages with success before, so I sign up for one year. Now I am getting the messages that remote computer does not respond in a timely manner and the connection is terminated, or it says my ID and password are not valid. I telephoned them at the call center and they said the fault was with my modem, so I changed modems but still have the same problems, so I lowered the modem speed very low and turned off the XP Pro firewall and it works somewhat better, but breaks after 5-20 minutes. I changed back to my inbuilt modem and the speed is better but the same problems develops. Is it the fault of my aging 600 E ThinkPad IBM or the server? Can any of the great falang surfer help me out with this? I live in remote Sa Kaeo Province and have the TT&T landline.
  8. For those having troubles with Windows Validation, here's how to update windows without installing other browsers {if you are paranoid} and that too without leaving internet explorer.

    1. Go to "Control Panel" and click on "Internet Options"

    2. Click on the "Programs" tab.

    3. Click "Manage Add-ons..." button.

    4. Go all the way to the bottom 3-quarter of the list and you'll find "Windows Genuine Advantage".

    5. Highlight this option and then select "Disable" in the "Settings" option in the bottom left part of the window.

    6. Click "OK" twice.  (Don't bother reading the pop-up warning)

After finishing these 6 simple n easy steps, now go to the MS Update site and you can now update your windows without any hassle.  Hope this helps.  :o

    Regards

:D I couldn't find the "Windows Genuine Advantage" on the manage add-ons on my computer in either category that they listed.

  9. I have Automatic updates on and Windows updates me computer everytime even though I have a so-called pirated edition issued by reputable Thai links. I believe the valadation thing is on the Windows Update page, so if you don't open that number, nothing to much changes. At first, I was refused futher updating with the message that somebody tricked me when I bought my XP Pro and I should go back to them and raise mayhem!

  10. :D I've been using Ji-net unlimited with *999 on TT&T and it works very well, always connect, but breaks from time to time. I had used Pacific Internet for a few years with great success but they only have the 1222 line and with TT&T, it's hard to get on during peak times, as there are many more kids online now then ever before. If you have TOT, it's okay with Pacific and can stay on 12 hours at a time. Now, I'll make a one year contract with Ji-net non-stop @ 2900 a year so that is inexpensive. I'm out in Sa Kaeo Province close to Cambodia. The high speed ADSL at the inexpensive price from Maxnet blocks the VOIP and P2P sites so that takes the fun out of surfing, I believe. And soon maybe P2P will finish anyway. I :o I don't experience freezing up as one man said with Ji-net. It all depends on your computer also with freezing, I think.
  11. :o Is it really true that on Maxnet 4 home the P2P and VOIP sites are not available, and would there be a way to get around that? I'm considering dial-up for a one year set-up with Ji-net Non-stop with TT&T connection, or Maxnet4Home, so I'd really like to know the current situation with that. They are almost the same price the Ji-net and Maxnet4Home.
  12. Yesterday I attended Suan Phlu (have I spealt tht right) to change from Tourist to Non Imm O Retirement visa. Room303. I showed them original embassy letter and asked if they would accept copy. They said no but when I have to request extension the copy will be acceptable and if problem tell "downstairs" that the original is held in Room 303. Anyway I'll play safe and get a new one. A nuisance.

Incidentally the Embassy made a typo with my address which I corrected in ink. Room 303 initially said this invalidated the letter and I would have to get a new one. However after conferring was told no problem.

:o I have my extensions in the outpost Alanyaprathet every year. I have always retained the orginal embassy certification as they said due to my 65 yrs. my pension is always the same. I have the Swedish Embassy in BKK providing my certificates and they can be obtained by mail with the required documents, paying the fee at the Post Office and using EMS delivery post paid. Perhaps you can have from your particular embassies the same service. In general, European governments don't like big crowds at their offices. Can one imagine the Thai bureau thinking the same?

  13. I'm using a Panasonic KX-TC1211BX cordless telephone. I get both these features. Sometimes the display will say Private Caller, I don't know if this because the caller as added a prefix to the number dialed. I didn't have to do anything to get these features, just plugged in the new phone.

hi, man, I have the same telephone as you talk about and it was given free when I installed TT&T out of Sa Kaeo Province about four months ago plus free installation.

OK thanks, I will look for a phone with those features....cheers

  14. :o I switched over to Ji-net dial up unlimited, as they have a special number for TT&T landlines: *999. OI, it's working better than 1222. I am thinking of trying Ji-net DSL mini @ 930 baht. Any news on that? I think the school children are learning to use computers now more and more and that makes the lines not work as before. I'm out at the edge of Thailand in Sa Kaeo and four new Internet game shops have opened in my wee village on Main Street. When the wee ones finish school the 1222 line is hopeless. The *999 with TT&T works better but but this is a low budget equiped company, you know?
  15. :D:D:D First the monks came early for the food, but not at the usual place, but right in front of my house where the wee misses was lighting the joss sticks. Her sister then gave the food packs and the monks chanted, then we drove into the Immigration Office greeted by a smiling Officer who had been rather glum the day before when she told me I had to pay 25 days overstay. She said Bangkok had cleared my situation, and I didn't ask what the reason was, as I didn't much care. The Officer joked and laughed with my misses about "Buddha knows what!" I guess somebody up there likes me because she quickly accepted my disarranged papers, not enough copies of this and that documents including my old Embassy Certificate and stamped my passport for 30 days to wait for the extension. One interesting note was that my misses forgot a bottle of something or other on the desk, but we didn't go back to claim it! They are not all that bad, but they like you to come back the next day, of course demonstating who is in control there, I would imagine. This is not my last hurrah! :o
  16. :o

I would do what they say to do.  But what exactly happened?  Your expiration date will always be the same date year after year once you start the extensions so if Bangkok stamped the wrong date it would be your responsibility to make sure it was right the same as when entering the country and a mistake is made.  I would try to look at it on the bright side as 25 days is not too much cash (5,000 baht) - 100 days would be a lot more.

But maybe tomorrow will bring good (better) news.

:D What went done was this: the former incompetent officer in the extensions office was replaced by a "do it by the book" young female just out of school. The earlier officer was a very kind almost retired man who always tried to help the falang. He told me that Bangkok gave me 25 extra days because it took four months to process my application for the 2nd extension. Now the new officer says that is impossible and not according to the LAW! My old date was on September 4 for the expiration of the visa, but Bangkok granted me September 29, so now that makes my last stay 364 days (1 year) plus 25. Tomorrow, I may suggest they give me 25 days less the coming extension, but as others have said they don't ever admit mistakes or clerical errors! Thanks for the help! I'll keep you'all posted.

  17. :o Today I was into the Alanyaprathet Immigration to apply for my third one year extension based on support for Thai wife and I was told that the Immigration in Bangkok gave me 25 days extra last year, so for the past 25 days I have been in Thailand without visa and I'll have to pay 200 baht a day for that mistake! The lady cop phoned many bosses in and around and I will have the final verdict tomorrow morning! Is that really possible, being almost unbelievable for me since I have dealt with those people for 15 years now. What should I do?
  18. :o On the Ji-net software download page on the website is all in Thai. Where do I find a translation, or does anybody know how it's going to work? This is for dial-up using TT&T call number 999 > I'm considering changing over from Pacific Interntet to the Ji-net that uses the speed up software. Is there any improvement really? Now it is hard to login with the 1222 call-up during peak times when the kiddies are home from school and on weekends almost impossible to get on. Pacific Internet only uses the 1222, so I have been thinking that perhaps the Ji-net would be better since it has the 999 call-up. Is there anybody out there in Falang World that uses Ji-net Speed-up Unlimited with the speed software that can tell me their experiences?
  19. :o I am still not connected to ADSL and shopping for a good inexpensive connection. I have a TT&T landline and live in Sa Kaeo on the border to Cambodia. I have my own Zoom ADSL X4 modem. I understand the Maxnet4Home is for the kids playing games. I have been considering Maxnet4Life at 256/128 speed@1450 baht. Then I hear about CSloxinfo at 1900 baht for the 256/128 speed. Can anybody lend me some advise about what to do? The dial-up 1222 is increasingly hard to log on after the kids come home from school and on weekends almost impossible to log on until they go to sleep at 10PM. During the wee hours of the morning, there is no problem to log on and during school hours it's no problem also. Now in my village there are four new shops offering Internet game playing overloading the already overloaded TT&T exchanges. I'm lving outside of town in the middle of the rice fields similar to a Wilderness where I only recently ran an electric line, telephone and water to the newly built house. Lets hear from you'all your differing experiences with ADSL upcountry TT&T landlines, and the best service for me at a reasonable price.
  20. :o I'm not sure if this topic is still current, as the last post was a while ago. Now I'm wondering whats the difference between csloxinfo ADSL at 1900 baht upcountry in Sa Kaeo, and the maxnet4life 256/128 at 1450 from TT&T?. I understand from the forum that the maxnet4home is useless, as one can imagine from the various different prices for services. I suspect that csloxinfo pays TT&T for the connection that is included in the 1900 baht . Now would the csloxinfo be a better speed and connectivity? :D

I am not sure what evidence of address is required but my recent application was a change from support to retirement so also had to have wife sign off.  What I did provide was:

    1.  Bank letter less than 10 days old and passbook with copies.

    2.  Medical certificate.

    3.  Passport and copies.

    4.  4x6cm photo taken within 6 months.

    5.  1,900 baht for TM.7 application.

    6.  (if pension also used) notarized letter of pension from Embassy.  AFAIK this can not be obtained by a third party so if you did not do it, it was not done.

Thanks for all the help, will apply in Bangkok. In terms of " proof of address", I have a letter from the ampur certifying it but over a year old (I got it after much hassle in registering my car since I'm not in the "tabien baan".). Will this do? Otherweise all I have is the land lease and house title. Thanks.

:D Hello again, I'm at a certain angle to this thread but here goes: it's the continual burning question for me about the pension certificate from my Embassy. Some people are asked for a new orginal copy every year, while some are not. Now I'll be asking for my third one-year extension, and the orginal certificate that I have is from last years extension. I have the extension now based on marriage to a Thai National. The old secretary at Alan said I could use the same orginal the following year. Is that kosher or not? I can drive the 15 hrs. return to BKK and have a new orginal, but I would rather not. Does anybody have any experience about this. I have never been asked for a medical certificate in the past due to my wife has a keen sense for Government employees. Furthermore, I use also the receipts from Visa ATM to show how I bring the money to Thailand, as bank transfers every month arrive often at differing dates making it difficult to meet my bills. Now every year I have successfully managed to use them showing my credit card noting the same numbers on the card as on the receipts. It's all a lot of difficulties in staying in Thailand if you don't have the big cash in the bank every year. I've been online in Thailand for many years also, at least ten continually with short bursts to Europe. That's my stories for now, so thanks for keeping me informed of the goings-on in the Kingdom of Thailand! With Thaivisa.com I would be lost in the wilderness of doubt!

:o I made a typographical error! The last line of my reply should say Without Thaivisa.com, I would be lost in wilderness of doubt, but then again there are many confusing reports here about that Embassy Certificate.

  23. :o Hello, old man retired! I'm the dude that has been going to Alan Immigration and orginally they told me to go back to Pattaya where I first had my one-year extension. I didn't go because my more than beautiful Khmer wife smiled a lot to the General and gave a present, so I finally was allowed to apply at Alan's Office, but let me tell you that it's strickly a jungle outpost, one could say, and I would seriously advise you to go back to the Main Artery Immigration in BKK!
  24. :o

Well only thing to fear is it wont allow you to make updates apart from the security patches if you arent running a valid windows copy. There are work arounds so no worries.

:D I'm in the same circumstance, as I have the pirate windows XP SP2 installed by the Thai company aleady and can't upgrade any longer from Bill Gates. So I am wondering what are the work arounds so no worries that you write about? Can you e-mail me please? I'm out in the Khmer wilderness in lower Isan without a computer friend for advise!
