  1. I drove around the town on the evening of the first day of songkran, I saw many nice pubs with good looking girls seated outside. I for one did think it was quite numerous for a town out in the sticks.

The girls should nt be a worry or hard to find, and you can always dance anytime you have had enuff drinks.

I would say around the lake as well. It certaintly looked like Thai-style disco's which I actually enjoy more than a typical fancy foreign style disco. Normally a good house band, and show, plus sexy coyotes (and you can bring your own liquor), but have to by mixers. But haven't been inside one in NS yet, but in 2 weeks time I'll have a look.

Hopefully I'll meet up with some of you lads...

  2. Ban Lek, next to petrol station is good, also Sy Ping, east of town, along Kosi Road,by the riverside, food good and beer not expensive.

There are good places by Sawan Park, sorry dont know the names.

Thanks for the tips will check them out if anyone wants someone to watch footy with give us a buzz

    Stuart

I'm with you Stuart for the 14th of June for sure. Are u American or English?

I hope to catch the Holland - Denmark game (I'm Danish....)

  3. Yes have to agree with KCM the Cascade Club is Excellent and is next to one of my favorite restaurants ALDO's. I live across the street and right now the intersection is closed off as their has been problems at the Satorn/Naritwat intersection. You are coming in June so I would think and hope all the problems are finished by then. I'll mention the Olympic Club again (as that is my club) which I feel is as good as the Cascade Club. It's located in the Patumwan Princess Hotel next to MBK shopping center and have a day membership at 500 baht. Both of these clubs you can find if you google them.

    Alright.

    Thanks alot

  4. Many gyms here in Bangkok from California Wow (used to be part of 24 hour fitness) to the Olympic club which will charge you 500 baht per day. There is also Fitness First and True Fitness all big chains which have all the equipment needed.

The best gym in Bangkok is The Cascade Club in The Ascott on Sathorn Road. I'm not sure if you can buy a day pass without going with a member but if you stay at The Ascott you can use the gym for free.

Hmmm, might have to book myself into that hotel then. Is this near all the problems?

  5. The best low cost gym I know is Hard Body Gym on Soi 3 off beach road Jomtien.

3 floors of proper olympic weights with heavy duty machines and power racks.

Nothing fancy. Just the real deal.

Tony's Gym Pattaya and soon opening in Jomtien is for posers and pansies on machines.

Never heard of this. I'm used to Tony's on 3rd road.

Could you sum up the dumbbell sizes? In kilo's or pounds. In Tony's they have up to 135 lbs, but I hate it's so full, so I might give this one a go, when I swing by in June/July

  6. Hi I'll be in BKK for a few days 11th - 13th of June

And I need to do a few workouts (I'm a gym geek), can anyone tell me, where they have some hardcore gyms?

Does any hotels have those kind of gyms?

    Thanks.

    Cheers

    Dan

  7. I'd also like to sign up, for a meet up, in Mid June.

That would be great. Let me know when you arrive.

    Cheers,

    Pete

Thanks alot for the invite Pete.

I'll be swinging by, approx. the 13th and will be staying anywhere from 3 - 5 days, maybe even a week.

Some golf, watch some football world cup games and drink some beers or Meh Kong coke (in my case), would be so awesome....

  8. As somebody else mentioned protein powder is available at GNC. GNC's own brand tastes okay but the other brands suck. Be sure to sign up for a VIP card as you get big discounts, especially on member days.

If you're a brit, then the protein powder at GNC (with members discount) costs about the same as back in the UK.

    Cheers :)

    No worries mate.

I do the same thing every time I come back to Thailand.

I'll just advice you to leave it in the tubs. If it's too big, then pack it into some old smaller ones.

I mean if they pull you aside, then let them taste it.

  9. Hi guys.

I'll be heading to Chiang Mai in June, but would like to know the name of the gym I'll be using for that 1 week.

I'm into heavy weights, so heavy dumbbells and plenty of barbells + plates are the biggest priority.

Do Chiang Mai have a hardcore Bodybuilding gym?

    Cheers

    Dan

Try Hillside 4 condo.... I bench press 180KG and they have sufficient weights for me.... unfortunately the dumbells are only 40KG....

    Cheers :)

    Thanks mate!

  10. what do you try to achieve by going to the gym? no i dont want to hear weight loss...

bigger biceps, wider trapezoid? want to look bulk and look like a gorilla? like the feeling when hanging around in town/malls showing your figure?

will that be a problem when you get old? like clint eastwood looks really saggy now... muscle shrunk or something? also how about joint problems? i read somewhere, oldy rugby players get like joint, cartridge problems.

my place got that one machine that does 4-5 stuff. instead of doing painful situps, lifting, pulling 100kgs will also train ur core right?

also how do you burn fat on ur bum? i heard bum (gluteus maximus) got the strongest muscles in human body... yummmooooooooo....

so if u train ur bum, u will have big ass? not fat but all muscle???? lol, jean calude van damme got a big ass! WOW looks like a horses one... :D:D:D:D:D:):D:D

    LOL :cheesy:

also... arnie swazneggar didnt do cardio training right? like running?

  11. Hi guys.

I wrote hear a little over a year ago.

Thought the Farang population thread was getting a little too long with too many wide spread questions, so I've decided to create a new one (at least with my questions).

I'll be heading back up around mid June. For about a week, and perhaps skip a day going to Phaisali (seing the missus family in Samrungchai)

I was back in October (09) for a few days, and I still like this place, however whenever I'm there I get a little restless (don't know what to do or see)

So a couple of sightseeing hints would be appriciated.

The last 2 times I've stayed at .... (D & K or something like that), big hotel block infront of Big Steak house. The first time was nice (a year ago), however in October there were litterally millions of small flies at night (laying dead like leaves on the balcony the next day, I walked out on barefeets, the noice was chrunch... chrunch, looked down and saw it was dead flies I was standing on, Eeuw...!

Some also got into the room, and it didn't seem very clean, so I'd like to upgrade to a better hotel, so I was hoping that someone might have a better suggestion.

Next thing is the bar/disco scene, is that centered in one place or spread out? I've noticed some bars/disco's along the lake, is that it, or is there some other district in town (my missus and I are rather young 24 and 25), so I'd like to try get drunk and party up there.

Last year I worked out at the gym near the lake (kind of ok), but the machines were very old and dangerous (I snapped the cable of the pull down machine in my tenth rep of lat pull downs with max weight), nothing happened, other than a huge bang, and the instructer was very sorry. So I'm gonna ask again, does they have another place, or is that gym my best option?

After the gym I like to eat a big steak. Steakhouses in Nakhon Sawan, where are they located? I know big steak house (not very big, but the staff is nice and service is always good), the steaks aren't world class but acceptable.

We were asking around and was told they do have steakhouses, so could any of you expats please name them and loction please...?

I'd also like to meet up with some of you guys for some beers, and a pubcrawl, that would be awesome, we could arrange that, when the time gets nearer. I'd like to try it out, so I hope maybe some of you would show me around.

Lastly, we plan to head up to Chiang Mai after the week in Nakhon Sawan. I know the busses are going, but how about the train or plane? I'd like to take the train if the seats are comfortable, and not wooden seats. How long will it take? And what would you recommend?

Well that was a long read with questions, so to sum it up:

    - What to do in Nakhon Sawan? (sightseeing)

    - Hotels? (recommendation)

    - Redlight destrict?(bar/disco areas)

    - Steakhouses?

    - Gyms?

    - Meet up/pubcrawl?

    - Best means of transportation to Chiang Mai? (train, bus or plane)

That was quite a bit, hope to get some good answers.

Thanks alot, and hope to meet up with some of you guys in June.

    Cheers!

    Daniel

  12. I paid the correct amount (the prices from the menu) already but did not have the exact change so it was 20 Baht too much. Other shops to change the money were already closed and she refused to return the change of 20 Baht. I did not wanted to leave not paying.

She was really a bad lady and I am sure 2 of the staff (the one who wanted to hit me) were illegal as they did not spoke Thai very well.

    dam_n...

I'll write the name down. I hate/can't tolerate shit like that as well.

But like the other guy said, it's safer to play it Thai style smile, pay and never come back (and spread the word, like you are doing now), as you could have ended up beaten badly.

And up in Nakhon Sawan, there aren't many people(farangs) that could come to your aid, so it is rather foolish, to go code red over that amount of money, but I get it, it's not the amount but the principle.

  13. i know a very good GYM in chiang mai, only for serious bodybuilders but if i told you all it wouldn't be good anymore, too many people no good.

    dam_n you....! :)

It's only for a week (and you can pm it me, won't tell anyone)

By the way I work out eraly in the morning 06 - 07 am, especially to avoid waiting in line (so I understand your frustration)

I might actually need a spotter (are you in....) :D

  15. Hi.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Well to be honest, I've got fed up with TEFL industry, so I've decided not to touch it anymore.

Where is the University located, the one you work at?

Well, the reason I've decided to put her up there, is that I feel it's a bit safer than, down here in Pattaya, plus she only has M.3, I'd like her to study to get the M.6 (would look alot better on her visa application, plus her staying in NS and not Pattaya).

Do you have any suggestions, where or what I could put her up for in NS. She's 23, so it would be a bit cruel to enroll her to High School with 16 year olds, but if there's no other way... She talked about that they do have some classes, for girls/ladies like her, who've been taken out of school a little too soon.

About the gym, you have any in NS?

Thanks alot for your help and suggestions.

    Regards

    Daniel

  16. Hi Guys.

A young newbee here... Looking for some advice.

I'll be on my first trip to Nakhon Sawan in middle of February, for about a week.

One of my biggest concerns are gym's (I'm a fitness fanatic), do they have any, tried to look everywhere on the net, but somehow, I've only noticed a possible Gym in one of the hotel's (Pisarn, I think), and another gent, who asked the same here at Thaivisa, but without a real reply.

I don't expect a Tony's Gym (Yup, I'm from Pattaya), but thought they might have a decent gym (from what I can see, the city is not that small)

My lady is from Phaisali, but I'm not sure I'm gonna go all out this time (met her mum before), cause I've heard, that you are practically the future husband when going to their village, so I'll prefer to stay in the city of Nakhon Sawan, where I'm also planning to settle the missus, while I'm going home to take care of business (work, appartment and visa) after being a TEFL'ER here for about 3 years.

Leading me to my second question.

While I'm gone I'd like to set her up, in some school, read earlier in this Thread that you have an ECC up there, is that the only kind of language school? Or do you have more?

Anyhow, hope you can help me out, maybe even recommend a hotel/appartment room in town.

    Thanks alot Cheers.

    Hoping for some replies.

    Dan
