  1. Well, you have a Labor Minister instructing the Department of Employment to see to it that migrant workers all will do the provided jobs as unskilled laborers or servants.

In their defense (if there is any) a lot of the surrounding coutries are doing worse than Thailand. Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei is according to the index worse, Malayisa follows on 29th, Philippines is on 33, Laos on 37, Indonesia is 39 and Singapore 45th place. Vietnam follows on 47.

Instead the usual ASEAN nonsense talk, perhaps this is really where ASEAN could play a role in eliminating this disgusting behavior?

  2. Wow the BS just reeks,

You have billions of baht but you cannot afford proper hospital care? That is not a sterile room but it might be what they in their ignorance think is sterile.

Even though the photo is grainy, it looks like a room where they have just thrown in anything medical related to make it look like something - e.g. why do you want to have what appear to ben an emergency kit in the back, that is something for an ER and not a ward IMO, I am not sure what the blue machine is for. It looks to clunky to be a blood pressure machine.

Showing a bandaged foot doesn't prove infection. If it is DVT and now turned into a serious infection (I am not sure how that could happen as they would likely treat with blood thinners and compression socks - if a filter is inserted it is usually done through a large vein in abdomen) the doctors are surely not taking very good care of their patient. He should be admitted immediately.

  3. Of course, why didn't anybody think of that before?

I am so grateful that we have these officials with superior intelligence telling farmers to remember to harvest their products, when they are ripe.I mean, how could the whole country work without their important advise. These officials surely are worth their salary.

  4. The question is why do they need new toys? There is no real threat from Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia or Laos - they are all ASEAN countries and the border issues with Cambodia have been peacefully discussed through international bodies.

The violence in the South does not call for tanks, jet fighters or submarines but more a policial solution.

They are not overly engaged in any international engagements where latest military techonolgy is needed.

But of course tanks always do look impressive in the streets in Bangkok.

  5. Great idea - will make a great event, I don't want to obstruct your brilliant idea but a few questions arises:

    1. Let's say you do find your 747 airplane - do you really think Thai aviation authorities will allow you to make essentially a huge drone that will used for demoltion in a huge uncontrolled explosion?
    2. Where will you find a structure lage enough in the Thai countryside - and with no residents or factories nearby?
    3. How will you find a structure that is made out of the same steel and other building materials as the Twin towers? And recreate that so it resembles the same age as the Twin towers?
    4. Who will clean up afterwards bearing in mind all the asbestos and everything?
  6. As other posters pointed out - it will not happen here. Why not the dear leader would ask? Well, innovation comes from questioning things and old ways, crtiical thinking, seeing things in new perspectives, wondering if things could be used or done better and without the support and encouragement from government and learning institutions such as schools and universities chance of succes is very slim.

Innovators (both individuals and companies) need support in terms competency building, financial support, R&D and business processes. Those submarine and tank money could be used on supporting e.g. startups, public-private partnerships, incubation offices, scholarships for poor high potential kids, etc.

But as this is Thailand and all free thinking and creatvitity was taken out of the schools a long time ago, there is a long way to go. The postitive side of it is, that in spite of all this, talented Thais do pop up here and there. No matter how much you try to dumb down the people, some kids will always refuse to be made ignorant.

  7. I have often wondered why no one seems to believe in crop rotation.

Exactly - I guess it is just me who doesn't understand the extremely efficient Thai farming, but as crop rotation has been performed elsewhere hundreds of years, perhaps they should a least consider it - supported and promoted from central level as well?

  8. Why are these farmers in debt all the time - not only under the present and prevoius government, but all others? Is there a fundamental flaw in the Thai agriculture system that needs to be corrected? Is it too much power wielded by e.g. agrochemical companies? Are the farmers simply not effective in producing? Is the soil and climate no longer sustainable for their traditional way of farming?

You have Section 44 in hand - you have the power to actually to allocate not just my tax money, but also expertise to come up with proper long term solutions. I am not farming expert but e.g. encouraging crop rotation, co-ops, free schools for farmers to learn e.g. financial planning while waiting for the next harvest, identifying areas best suited for different crops, reduce dependency on use of chemicals, could be looked into?
