  1. Hi all,

I used to live in Thailand in the 80's and my family used to go to a resort called 'Golden Beach'. It was, I believe, east of Hat Jomtien. I've searched everywhere and think the resort must have changed it's name. If anyone knows the new name or know it's location it would be greatly appreciated! There was a brilliant restaurant on a wooden pier east of the beach too.

    Thanks,

    HTGR

  3. Wait a minute. I'm British and I wouldn't want Thailand meddling with my political affairs either!

Reading some of my young Thai niece's schoolbooks it's no wonder they end up which such a twisted xenophobic view of reality. Taught (indoctrinated) from a very young age how special the Thai people are compared to everyone else. :(

Such a pity that such a beautiful country has such a high % of simpleminded fools populating it.

  4. Hi there,

I am setting up a home recording studio (albeit a modest one) and I am looking for any music shops in Bangkok that sells se2200a or se2200t microphones. In fact, any shops selling decent mics would do! All I can find are cheap SM 58's...

Please advise me of a specific music forum if there is one as I couldn't find one.

    Thanks,

    HTGR

  5. there are many places on Ram Intra, also an American Rib place, that might have a TV.

Also Kaset Navamin is very popular.

I download the footie and watch the next day.

cheers Beano, I'll check it out.

if you want to watch Sp*rs getting into the top 5 your best bet is to find somewhere that shows re-runs of when Martin Jol was there :-P

Ooh, I don't know - we seem pretty strong this season (but I think I said that last year and the year before...).

  6. Hi there,

I have just moved to Bangkok and live near Minburi (east bangkok). Can anyone recommend a pub/bar nearby where I can watch my beloved Spurs make the top five this year? :)

    Cheers,

    HTGR

Sorry do not know any pubs in Minburi, how about Ram Intra road. If not why not try and download using torrents "Match of the Day" is always available

Hi Beano, thanks for the quick response. Yeah, I use Footytube to watch highlights (best site on the net for that I reckon!) but would prefer to watch the games live if they are on before closing time...is there somewhere specific on Ram Intra road? I don't mind trekking into Sukhumvit, I've heard there are a few decent places there...

  7. hi there,

Can someone please give me a list or point me to a directory of websites specializing in classifieds for expats in Bangkok? I would like to post a few ads ASAP. Obviously there is the Visa Forum Classifieds, Bangkok Post and The Nation - any others?

    Any help much appreciated,

    HTGR

  8. Hi all!

My fiance is South African and she will be earning over 100,000 Baht a month gross. We can't seem to find any info regarding exactly what she will get after tax as a South African working at an International School in Bangkok. Please can someone help and let me know if you need more info.

Also, I shall be teaching English and will be earning 35000 a month (I have a British passport) - how much will I get taxed? Please don't send links to other sites, we've been there and our questions are still not answered. Hopefully you're a SA national yourself working in Bangkok who can shed some light for us!

    Thanks,

  10. If you have the qualifications you MIGHT be able to get work with a Uni ... and a work permit. Otherwise you would have to comply with all the rather strenuous rules for owning a company in Thailand (minimum registered capital and Thai employees and partners etc .. and even then I don't know if you could call it a 'school' without having to jump through even more hoops!)

You might want to shoot a letter of to Sunbelt and see what they have to say.

    ok, Sunbelt here I come...

Sunbelt? you don't need a lawyer, yet, use Google --- sheesh all of your questions are answered 10,421,122 times at 342 sites!

    Hi Eggomaniac,

Thanks for those links - although you seem to think my post was about where to find guitar lessons (I was specifically asking about the possibility of teaching guitar as a selfemployed expat, not being taught) it has provided me with a couple schools/contacts I can use.

  12. Start reading on the main ThaiVisa pages to get the basics then start looking at the forums. (Your bubble is very very likely to get burst if you are thinking you will be working legally in Thailand for yourself as a guitar teacher)

    hey jdinasia,

ok, will do. just thought I'd get it out there first. Although being self employed would be ideal, I am also looking to teach in schools/music college's. I do know now that gaining a work permit through these schools is unlikely unless its full-time - which is also unlikely!

    Thanks.

  13. Hi there,

I am a newcomer here and have only just started researching Thai work permits/visa's etc, so excuse my naivety!

I cannot seem to find any specific information on the rules and regs on becoming a self employed westerner in Thailand (I am British). I would like to start a guitar teaching school in Bangkok (albeit from my apartment or by visiting schools to begin with) and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding what I would need to do/have in terms of permits? Is there a base fee to becoming a self employed expat and if so, whats the criterea?

Any advice would be great, even if it will burst my bubble.

    Thanks,

    Hitthegroundrunning.
