  1. Do not use vaseline as  will help destroy the o ring use silicone grease, tighten the union an ensure the pump lid seal is tight also use silicon areas on seals.

    Any leaks on glued joints,

  2. Shock dosing will not get rid of chlormines ie combined chlorine. it will just adjust the amount of free available chlorine ,available for disinfection ( the amount of hypochlorous acid}

It will raise  the amount of free available chlorine, once the demand has been met the combined chlorine will  raise again significantly and so on ad finitum.

Shock dosing is a very important tool tool to remedy such problems as algae and end of season lay up etc'

The ONLY real way to beat combined chlorines is dilution.

If you have the money and expertise full flow UV is the way to go . It is a great form of disinfection in both dealing with pathogens and combined chlorines,  but don't believe in all the claims the manufactures make.

One of the most important  things with pool ownership here is do not what ever you read on the internet etc is to allow the cynuric acid levels in your pool to exceed 30 ppm, if above that reading dilute.

Above that reading the effectiveness of the free available chlorine is greatly diminished.

Just the opposite- if they were attempting to apply the change retroactively, they would have specifically stated  it applies to all O-A Visa issued regardless of date and any susequent extensions.

The confusion appears to be in the wording. It could be interpreted either way depending on how it is read.

IMO- no law can or should be applied retroactively-  the concept is ex post facto. If something was not a crime 10 years ago- it can't be applied to what happened 10 yearss ago even if today it is a crime.

If I obtained an O-A Visa 10 years ago and there was no requirement for insurance and you kept succesively extending- the  rule should not logically be applied.  It should only be applied on or after the effective date.

Try telling that to the IO in Chiang Mai who is refusing extensions for such as a case you have mentioned. That is a fact not hearsay.

  4. How many UK citizens have actually registered their presence in Thailand with the UK embassy, this would give the the embassy a more realistic number of UK expats living here and maybe  with a more realistic number of UK expats living here  will give the embassy more leverage in their request to negotiate with Thai authorities on our behalf.

  5. Retirement visa extension.

Normally I usually for fill the financial requirements by a 50 / 50 split 400 k in the bank and 400k income supported by UK embassy letter.

My plan now is to have monies from the uk paid directly into my Bangkok bank account, for example 400 k spread over a 10 moth period, and 400k on deposit in Bangkok bank.

Will this method be acceptable to Thai immigration?

I disagree. Obtaining Police criminal record checks and a medical is time consuming and expensive.

Obtaining a TV and doing the conversion within Thailand is cheaper and less time consuming.

The OP won't be able to apply for an 'extension' for almost 12 months, or even longer, if he enters on an O-A.

Absolutely not a problem  to obtain police criminal check in the UK takes about a week, if you pay a bit extra, Medical just go to your GP again a matter of days, the biggest pain is to get everything notarized, again not insurmountable but does cost. But all this depends on your budget.

    Good luck with your endevour.

  7. As you say the chlorine is low,(do you have enough salt in the pool?)

    Ph fine cyn ok.

The hardness of your water may be a contributing factor to your chlorinator scaling up more than it should.

In case it would be a good Idea to ensure the new one you get has a cleaning function ,this should help unfortunately Hardwater is something we have to live with, and no amount of playing around with pool chemicals will help.

Also one would also presume you are using high quality salt, if not that will also contribute to increased scaling of electrodes.

The forum sponsors are best placed to advise you on choice of chlorinator.

  8. The CIA already knows only too well. Check out the Frontline program about the "black" interrogation center in Bangkok. Extensive exposure to "music," usuallly rap or repetitive C & W or other obnoxious music was used as part of the advanced interrogation techniques. The Frontline program is very complete. I'm sure that it can be found on YouTube.

You have posted the three letterers that should never be mention on a public forum there are safe houses awaiting should you wish. 5555555

  9. Just give the village head man a few of your favourite tracks to play. personally i love all parts of living here a long with the barking dogs cockerels and of course the obligatory karaoke at village events.

looking forward to the next few days festivities , with massively loud fireworks and endless parties thats one reason I came here not for the food or culture but the lovely noises.

  10. A good article to read and give you further food for for thought ,I often tell people that in certain parts that the water they get from their wells can be over a hundred years old????

HOW OLD IS YOUR WELL WATER?

This article, written by the American Ground Water Trust was originally published in THE AMERICAN WELL OWNER, 2001, Number 3]

HOW OLD IS YOUR WELL WATER?

The water you drink may be composed of the same water molecules that have been around since life started on this earth 4.6 billion years ago. We could be drinking the same water dinosaurs swam in millions of years ago. The age of ground water pumped from a well is taken to be the length of time it took to reach your well since it infiltrated the ground surface. Most drilled wells may contain water of different ages and the pump may deliver a “water cocktail” from different rock layers with the older water usually deeper in the well.

The long travel time underground, away from risks of surface contamination, is one of the reasons that most well water is fit to drink without treatment. Most home wells are likely to pump relatively “young” ground water that is less than ten years old. However, wells tapping deeper aquifers may have water that last saw the light of day many centuries ago. The following information, taken from a 1994 Trust publication* helps explain subsurface flow of ground water.

Groundwater generally moves very slowly. Rates of a foot per day are considered fast, although rates of a few feet per month are more common. It is hard to imagine these slow rates of movement when compared with the apparent fast flows from a large spring or a pumping well. However, at a well or spring, the flow of water is concentrated and may represent the net combined input from many deep bedrock fractures and recharge derived from a large area. For a given aquifer system, ground water flow rates generally increase as the water table level is raised following recharge.

Virtually all aquifers are dynamic, and flow is constantly occurring although rates of flow will vary within the aquifer with deeper water tending to move more slowly. The direction of flow within the aquifer is generally from the point of recharge to the point of discharge. These places may be some distance apart and ground water discharging into a wetland (or well) may have received most of its recharge some distance away. With slow travel times, and long travel distances, the age of ground water may be tens of years or more between recharge and discharge. Some deep confined ground water is thousands of years old and yet is still slowly on the move.

Although often spending a long time beneath the surface, ground water can respond almost immediately to recharge because the “new” water can have the effect of pushing out the “old.” Geologic structure and rock types can influence ground water flow directions but even in relatively simple geologic situations, movement does not occur in straight lines. Most ground water has curved flow paths.

  11. If it is an epoxy 2 part yes it should be dry not sure of the cure time .and normal levels of chlorine should not present any problems.I usually did not have much input into pool finishes it was just on this particular contract we had to do the whole package. My company was mainly the design and installation of large scale water treatment plants for council pools..

  12. Sorry to be pedantic I come from the uk and the term filler would mean something that is used to fill cracks and gaps.If it is an epoxy 2 part paint then I might be able to shed a little bit of light on this.

I was involved in a pool refurbishment at a school in Oxfordshire .We used a specialist company to apply the coating to walls and pool floor of an 12.5 m pool .Everything was fine for two weeks then the pool finish became discoloured as your's is.

After a lot of discussion, the specialist company that was involved in the original coating recoated it .The supplier of the coating admitted it was a faulty batch and paid in full.

Your contractor should have mixed to the correct ratios and certainly Not used any thinner.

As a further note it is a fantastic finish and is as good as pool liner.

would say to every one especially those of us from the UK to get one done asap if you have not had one already.
