  1. The Czech Republic is directly linked with Germany and you can be for sure that zenzer would get arrested and send to a prison in Munich. I am sure at the time zenzer applied his visa, the Czech Republic embassy in Bangkok did not issue a Schengen visa as they just joined the EU.

I am sure that zenzer has to return to Thailand to apply for a visa to Germany or Italy.

  2. Have been around in Thailand for almost 14 years and personally speaking I wouldn't hire a farang. If I want to hire foreigners, I would open a company in a foreign country but not in Thailand.

BTW: I have met many good Thai programmers and it is unfair to put all Thai's in one basket.

In regards of the banks that they are not secure, my comments would be that this is rubbish. Why ?

If the poster never worked in a Thai bank, how does he know they are not secure.

I worked b4 on a project on implementing the S.W.I.F.T. payment transfer system at BBL and UOB and the payment clearance system is very secure because it runs on a Sun UNIX server (Enterprise II) and not Windows etc.

The online banking solutions are all imported from the US and Europe and as far as I know they are as secure as most bank networks are.

BTW: Thai's don't only want foreigners to learn them English. Thailand is just building up an IT force in the hope of competing with countries like India and Vietnam. I don't think they will succeed on a large scale but they should be able to generate 1-2 billion USD in offshore development per year by 2006.

Foreigners are mainly needed to oversee and co-ordinate the software development projects and as far as I know Mustang Technologies actually have several expats on their payroll already.

So my suggestion, b4 blaming the Thais maybe blame yourself. You can always go back home to your home country and work back as a Windows expert but don't go after the Thai's with your racist remarks because no one wants to hire you.

  3. Hi dplast,

I very much liked your writings about Viet Nam.

BTW: If you next time stay in HCM City try to stay at the Anan Hotel in the backpackers street of Bui Vien Street. The owner is a former Vietcong and a very nice chap. Room are around 15 usd per night and includes breakfast.

Will be going down again in two weeks time as I love the Vietnamese people's, the food and cheap shopping.

    Asinah

PS: You should visit Ha Noi. It is much better then HCM City.

  4. Hi Bob,

I have been in the internet business since 1993 and you can almost say it is my life.

The best way to learn what is possible on the internet is Webmasterworld.com, the best site I came across over the past 10 years.

I do the following on the web to earn my revenues:

    1) I joined http://www.mediaplaza.com and I resell mobile ringtones, wallpapers etc. in 32 countries (we will launch our Thai/Chinese and Malay ringtones websites by the end of next month) - We don't advertise in publications but we have a userbase of around 900,000 web visitors per month and most of our revenues comes currently from the UK, Mexico, Argentina, Germany and the Oceania region.

    2) We run an online booking service with hotelclub.com (6 languages) and receive around 5 percent of cleared transactions. We clear around 5 bookings per day and the hotels are mainly four and five star properties

    3) We joined the Google Adsense system for web publishers and but I can't tell you how much money we make per month but with a few thousand clicks per day we make a LOT.

If you need a good hosting provider take superb.net; they are based in Canada and I never ever had a problem with them (i am not working for them, nor do I get a commission). If you prefer a US hosting company, use dn.net - they are good but expensive.

We also do select SEO work for our clients in the Bahamas, Belize, Greece, Malta, Spain and Japan and outsource the work to some companies in Viet Nam and India.

(In fact the Indian SEO company we just fired ten days ago as we lost around 60,000 links in some search engines due to keyword spamming and I had to turn down a client from Rayong last week and refunded the payment as I no longer had the time to look after that project)

The name of the game is Search Engines ! If you are in the SE you can generate free traffic with around 1% of your traffic to be generated into revenues.

Example : A website in tourism can make around 1-2 bookings per day per 1000 visitors. I know a company in Thailand that makes around 250 bookings a day and they generate around 100,000 vistiors per day.

Our Mobile website makes around 1 order per 1400 users but those users are not yet well targetted and it will take another 6 weeks before our pages show up in the search engines.

I never bought a book on making money nor do I ever spam, nor do I pay for advertisng on any websites.

Try to visit webmasterworld.com and read for a couple of weeks those postings, so that you can see what works and what doesn't.

I think any website will need at least a year or two to breakeven, but if you target from the beginning the search engines you could be in for breakeven within 6 months.

    Good luck

  5. ( He is the Executive Vice President )

Rutger is now the Executive VP of Dusit? Since when ?

As far as I know he is the Corporate Director of Operations but not the Executive Vice President. At Dusit you can't become an EVP if you only have experience as a GM in a hotel in Manila or Bali.

My advise to Santastic : Bypass the farangs and contact the top management directly at Dusit or contact the Dusit College if they know of any position openings.

  6. Received an answer after I emailed them if their Nigerian company is going to screw me again.

From ikobo as posted. I wonder if they can't track a shipping number how are they even able to track transactions.

    _____

    Dear Customer,

Your card has been shipped out. It shall take atleast 8-10 business days to

arrive to you. Unfortunately, due to some issues in the shipping department,

I am unable to pull up a tracking number for you. Even so, I shall keep

trying and provide you with one the earliest I can. I apologize for any

    delays in answering.

    Thank you for choosing iKobo,

    Sheel Patel

    iKobo Inc.

  7. oopss and the iKards are printed in Port of Spain, Trinidad

    West Indies, I guess.

Hypertech Caribbean and the president is Thomas Khal

    who seems to be also

    http://www.hypertech-caribbean.com/meet_the_team.html

    I like this about Khal:

He is also a member of the Bank Marketing Association and the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators- Caribbean Chapter.

    This also is funny:

He was Assistant Computer Operations Manager for a period of three (3) years

    ---

An Assistant Computer Operations Manager at BBL or SCB makes around 35,000 Baht per month. I doubt they would get more in little T&T.

  8. Thanks

    photo downloaded

BTW: Had a chance to talk to today to the Nigerian Embassy and I told them about the 200 bucks. They told me I am a lucky guy to only have been possible scammed for 200 bucks and they again warned me that if the deal sounds to good then it maybe a scam.

Any way I gave them the ikobo website url and they promise to check out the Chief Financial Officer which seems to hold a Nigerian passport.

    Wink

  9. Hi folks,

Things looked very positive last weekend when some guy called Sheel Patel contacting me and actually telling me WE GOT YOUR MONEY 200 USD.

This time they blamed the sender THAT HE GAVE THE WRONG ADDRESS but he actually told me that all he did was entering the ikobo account id.

A day before they blamed that I have two ID's and this could be the problem.

Sheel Patel then told me if I wanted to close one account at which I responded,

I expect the card by courier service at which he responded that my ikard will be send by courier on courier on Monday and I can have the consignment number for the company on Tuesday.

Guess what ? After repeated emails I don't heard anything from them.

The only email I received was that I have an ikard by mail. Yeah, the same they told me in March that they mailed the ikard.

I wonder really if they have any Americans or anything working for them in the States. We know already that a Nigerian seems to be the CEO, an Indian seems to be in charge of marketing and a Russian is involved as well in the company.

Any way I am calling the Antiguan authorities and as well the bank itself that issued the card.

I will also link from our weppages in India, Philippines, Pakistan, Srilanka etc. to the ikobo thread on the Thaivisa website. They seem to be targetting as their main clients Economic Immigrants from South Asia that are based in North America and Europe.

Any way, the website url will be http://ikobo-sucks.asinah.net/ and will be launched on Friday 18:00 (AST)

  10. Yes, they may not offer the same rates but if a website makes a 15-20% markup, you can be assured that the websites rates from other sites will be more expensive.

The rates of Pacific World, East West etc. are to expensive because their volume is much smaller per month compared to Diethelm and Asiantrails.

  11. You must have a company and a bank account in the US.

Are you sure about this? So every comapny on the internet, whether they be in Europe or Asia or wherever, that accepts online credit card payments from US customers, has registered a company in the US and opened a US bank account???

This doesn't sound right to me.

OK, my mistake. If you just want to charge US clients their creditcard, of course u don't need a US company. I was thinking you want to setup US merchant facilities.

    Sorry about that.

Your best solution is to talk to a local bank in Thailand.

  12. CMT,

That's how we did it. Of course you could go via a 3rd party and they collect the money on your behalf and pay you once or two times a month plus hold back a certain amount of money for possible charge-backs by your customers.

I was reffering to surepay.com and they want u to be a US or a Canadian company.

Just think of this as you posted it:

** If the latter is the case, do you simply give your routing number and account number at the time you sign up for a merchant account? **

If you have merchant facilities via 3rd party they will pay you once or 2 times a month. Surepay credits the funds within 24-48 hours in your bank account without any T/T or whatsoever. We kept the funds in the bank account and wired once a month the funds to our suppliers such as Diethelm and Asiatrails via our Online Banking A/C in New Jersey.

  13. I'm looking for someone to help spruce up and maintain my company's website.

Preferably in the Pattya or Rayong area. Help needed finalizing site design/code, setting up an online order form and payment gateway, and generating traffic.

You should be experienced with all these, and be able to show samples of your work. There is the possibility of becoming a marketing partner, with performance compensation bonuses. Please PM me here for more deails, or if you can recommend someone who fits the profile. Thanks!

    Hi ubergnome,

I have send you a private message last night and have the time and more importantly the experience and the traffic to back your project.

Contact me if you are interested

  14. Contact:

    Asian Trails Ltd.

15th Floor, Mercury Tower, 540 Ploenchit Road,

    Lumpinee Pratumwan Bangkok 10330

    Tel: 66-2-658 6080-9 Fax: 66-2-658 6099

Those 2 companies are the cheapest suppliers in Thailand and supply 80-90% of all travel sites including Res24 and all those other websites.

Another company you can try is planetholiday.com but I doubt that they can match any price from Diethelm or Asiantrails as those 2 companies undercut each other and the winner will always be the consumer.

  15. You must have a company and a bank account in the US.

So what we did is register a company in the US (we bought before a shelf company that was three years old already) changed the board and shareholders and then asked our CFO who was based in new Jersey to file all documents)

Took us around 3 weeks to have the Merchant kit mailed to us. We used surepay.com which I believe is still one of the best services I came around)

Make sure you signup for a D&B number as it helps to establish credibility.

  16. Or check with http://www.asiadebit.com located in Singapore with sales office in Phuket.

    george,

i too heard about asiadebit.com but the infos I received weren't that great.

They traded b4 under the name Payzip in Singapore but I know that the system seems to be working.

What made me stuck a little bit is that they use a couple of fax numbers in the States and UK but no phone number.

(Sounds like a fax forwarding service. A company that offers merchant account facilities and publishes a fax number in the Uk should also publish a phone number I guess)

We are member with the Singapore Chamber so will dig around on Monday morning who owns the operation in Singapore

  17. Get a domain with thaiinternic.com for 600 Baht and they offer webhosting for a couple of hundred Bahts.

Make sure you STAAAAYYYYY away from those Windows boxes and make sure you host your site on a Linux box or a SUN box.

Try to use cutehtml or some other kind of html text editors. All those other editors give you a lot of codes and comments that make your page to big.

If you have the money to spend and are acutally selling 3rd party products make sure you get yourself a Dedicated server and then you can become a player and make some real money.

    Just my few cents
